    Exceptional show!

by DoubleVision7 on 10/25/13Los Angeles State Historic Park - Los Angeles

The venue was intriguing... 1940s circus I would say. The performance was in a large circus tent, and all seats were good ones. There was even a revolving stage which made the experience even cooler because we got various views. Before the band came on, there was a series of exciting circus and musical acts. After the show, Alex (the lead singer) told the crowd to join him outside. Then, he and the band put on another after-show performance outside in the park. Overall great time!

    Trying too hard

    by GrandmasBunions on 10/23/13

Cool concept but way too corporate for my taste. Why not have actual games with prizes? Some of the circus acts were great, but the ringleader was super lame. I didn't dig his style. I like the concept a lot, but why not make a modern version of a traveling circus instead of making a bunch of fake looking vintage mock-ups? Loved the free Ferris wheel. Try to make it more authentic next time. The drinks were too expensive and it sucked we couldn't bring drinks to the big top.

GROSSLY MIS-LABLED AS A "FAMILY" SHOW

by SeaTurtleWatcher on 10/23/13Los Angeles State Historic Park - Los Angeles

I took my 2 1/2 year old to see this performance - THRILLED to be able to share the amazing Edward Sharpe concert experience with her at a matinee show. I arrived at noon, when the show began - after driving 45 minutes from Orange County to LA. Absolutely worth it for Eddie Sharpe and the 0s. To my great chagrin after arriving a chalk sign indicated that the band would not go on until 2: 30 which was actually 3pm. Having been there since noon in the noon heat, in a tent my kid was a trooper, but as I and all the other parents of toddlers and infants there where thinking "Oh god - we could have come after the child's NAP?" There were nursing mothers in the audience for crying out loud. After 3 hours in the mid day sun or the hot tent my child was exhausted and cranky. Sure the tambourine making booth was fun - but I could driven up the street to the church fair for that. And yes she enjoyed some of the other acts, but she was a hot mess by the time the Zeros came on. Also I didn't pay $40/person and drive far out of town to see a puppet show I could have seen at the public library. I was almost in tears by the time they came on, and my child certainly was. I LOVE live music and I get the whole musicians can't be on a schedule opening bands/acts take forever kind of a thing. But had I left the house at 1:15, arrived at 2-2:15 I still would have had plenty of time to make a tambourine, catch a few opening acts and my daughter and I would have enjoyed Edward Sharpe's ENTIRE performance together instead of only seeing a few songs and then carrying a crying child out to the car. She was thrilled to be there and totally focused on the stage when we arrived - but she's 3 - that lasted less than an hour. She nor I got to enjoy the music we came there for.

I may be a bit biased since Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros are my favorite band but the big top, circus-like environment was absolutely mind blowing! I have been to a few of their other concerts but this specific one blew the others out of the park. Alexander Ebert and Jade Castrino (lead singers of the group) have an indescribable energy between one another and they share that with the audience. I definitely recommend seeing this band as it brightens my mood every time and shows me what is important in life, like good music!

Edward Sharp& the Magnetic Zero's Big Top

by Elliemom on 10/23/13Los Angeles State Historic Park - Los Angeles

Awesome!!! Wish my 2 yr old would have let us stay longer. My only suggestion would be no tent next time which defeats from "the big top" but our 2 yr old seemed afraid of the tent. It would have also been nice to hear the music from the tent outside. I'm just bumbed that I had to leave early! More f&b options would have been nice. Especially for a family friendly event...I had the coffee ice cream which is a little tricky to not give your kid :)
