I was really looking forward to seeing Annie at the Dolby theater in Los Angeles. I went with my younger Sister. Annie was big for us growing up, so I expected the show to be nostalgic and emotional. Instead, it was disappointing and boring. The show: They changed some parts and added new songs, which I didn’t like. I realize this was an adaptation for the theater so I wasn’t expecting it to be the same as the movie, but not too different either. Cast: while all the girls were very talented, the girl who played Annie was the weakest. She was the understudy. Her singing was, sorry to say, annoying at times. Again, talented, but she was no Annie. Of all the cast members, I enjoyed her singing the least. The sets: ok, but not impressive. The venue: beautiful theater, but sound wasn’t too good. There was some echo, which made it hard to hear the performers at times. The cheers of the crowd were amplified. This show was not worth it and it almost ruined Annie for me. I listened to the original Annie’s “Tomorrow” right after the show to un-do what I heard at the show. The dog got the most cheers.

This was a great adaptation of Annie. Great cast, great sets, great sound and music. Highly recommend. The venue we saw it at was not great, but the show itself was.

This was my first time seeing a stage plan in which the act was amazing. Annie and Whoopi Goldberg did spectacular job and the other kids were so good. Let’s not forget the dog. Sandy I was so glad that my wife decided to take me to the show.

My daughter and I went to the play.. what a great evening we had!! The play was fantastic!! Ms. Hannigan was a great drunk. The orphans were perfect. Sandy was well behaved and of so cute. We were in the second row and enjoyed everything the play had to offer, including the view of the gentleman playing the guitar in the orchestra!!

  • Awesome Family Experience!

The performance of Annie was fabulous! We took family, including my 6-year old granddaughter. We all LOVED it! The quality of the performers was outstanding, the choreography was wonderful, and the sets were artful and moved efficiently. It's a great event for the whole family!

  • Mediocre at Best

by Dave on 4/21/24SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center - SacramentoRating: 2 out of 5

I hadn't been in the Safe Credit Union Performance Hall previously, and was very impressed. Sight lines were good, lighting and sound were at a professional level. Let's start up with the good stuff - Mrs. Hannigan (sorry don't have my program so will use stage names) was good. The orphanage children did a good job also. Oliver Warbucks was adequate - I think a stronger singing voice is needed to project the strength and command that character needs to show. Annie was below par. The singing was average, the acting brought little to the show. And the dog! Why even have it in the show is it's only job is to trot out occasionally so the audience could say aww... If it is too hard to train a real dog to do something interesting, really funny things could be done with a puppet or marionette dog. Overall, considering what I paid for the tickets, I was disappointed. I have to add though that my 40-year-old granddaughter and my 15-year-old great grandaughter both enjoyed the show. But they haven't seen as many really good stage musicals as I.
