About

Andrew Bird is an internationally acclaimed, Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, whistler, and songwriter who picked up his first violin at the age of four and spent his formative years soaking up classical repertoire completely by ear. Since beginning his recording career in 1997, Bird has released 17 albums and performed extensively across the globe. He has recorded with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, appeared as "Dr. Stringz" on Jack's Big Music Show, and headlined concerts at Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and festivals worldwide.

Bird performed as the Whistling Caruso in Disney's The Muppets movie, scored the FX series Baskets, and collaborated with inventor Ian Schneller on Sonic Arboretum, an installation that exhibited at New York's Guggenheim Museum, Boston's ICA, and the MCA Chicago. Bird has been a featured TED Talks presenter, a New Yorker Festival guest, and an op-ed contributor for the New York Times.

More recently, Bird released a series of site-specific improvisational short films and recordings called Echolocations, recorded in remote and acoustically interesting spaces: a Utah canyon, an abandoned seaside bunker, the middle of the Los Angeles River, and a reverberant stone-covered aqueduct in Lisbon. Additionally, Bird hosts an ongoing series of live-streamed performances called Live from the Great Room, putting the creative process on display for fans as he collaborates and converses with friends in a candid, intimate setting.

Shortly after receiving his 2020 Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album, with My Finest Work Yet, Andrew Bird made his professional acting debut in the cast of Fargo's fourth installment, which concluded on FX in November 2020 and is currently streaming via Hulu. In March 2021, Bird released his latest project, These 13, an album entirely co-written and recorded with his longtime friend and former Squirrel Nut Zippers collaborator, Jimbo Mathus. Captured live to tape, just the two of them playing and singing from opposite sides of a microphone, These 13 marked the first set of new music that Bird and Mathus created together in more than 20 years.

    by j-gro on 6/21/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

honestly, i was surprised that iron & wine was much better. andrew birds earlier work is better than his current material and he didn't play his classic wonderful songs, just his somewhat tired new material

Get Me Away From The Greek!

by Andrew Bird Lover on 6/20/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

-A rather sleepy set from Iron and Wine. We enjoyed his banter and some of his songs. He knew he was sucking and that was endearing. - The Greek's steep! Yikes! If I weren't a naturally gifted balancer I might have lost my footing. The whole arrangement of steps/seats in that amphitheatre means you either must get dibs on a spot to lean your back or otherwise sit upright for hours. --Andrew was in top form aand what a gent! His set was marvelous.

    Andrew Bird is top tier

    by J on 6/20/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

One of the most talented musicians alive, Andrew Bird performed another breathtaking set from his newest album, Inside Problems. The Greek Theatre, paired with a lyrical genius, was nothing short of mesmerizing. 10/10.

    Disappointed

    by A. on 6/20/22Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Not sure what happenedā€¦I have seen both Iron and Wine, Andrew Bird in concert multiple times each over the course of the last 15 years. This show was not the caliber of performance that they are both capable of giving as musicians. Sam Beam needed his band, and honestly his set was a bore. Andrew Bird started off his set with energy, but that didnā€™t last long. When they performed together, it was lacklusterā€¦ it was apparent they hadnā€™t spent much time rehearsing together. The Greek Theatre has amazing views of the bay and the acoustics are good for an outdoor venue. We came from out of town to celebrate Fatherā€™s Day and sadly, the show did not come close to meeting our expectations.

    Great fun as always

by MJC on 6/19/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Andrew Bird is always fun to see in concert. Heā€™s a wonderfully talented musician who writes interesting songs, has a terrific voice, plays a mean violin, and has the most fantastic, musical whistle ever! It was so much fun to see him perform with another one of my favorite artists Iron & Wine. Sam Beam was not only his usual, great guitar playing, solo-singing, personable self, but he also was exceedingly funny.

    Ok concert, seating problematic

    by J T on 6/19/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Folks standing in the pit area were standing right in front of the first 10 rows of seated patrons. It made the concert awful.

Take your own food and drink and picnic before

by Drew on 6/18/22Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Music was great but the cost of drinks and food are outrageous considering the pretty poor quality of the wine and food on offer..

    Charming whistling through his work

by Alexandrasteroche on 10/23/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

It is a little hard to believe how clear and crisp Andrew Birdā€™s whistle is, so perfect was itā€™s sound reverberating through the Paramount Theatre. Though I couldnā€™t see it up close as I was on the balcony, I was plenty entertained by a thoughtfully designed set that complimented the music, and was visually stimulating-for the moments when I wasnā€™t watching Bird bop along to his own songs, or slip off a shoe to play with pedals. He played the majority of MYFY in sequence, which was fitting as the whole album is so carefully put together it makes sense to play it as such live.

    too disjointed to enjoy

by MP on 10/22/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Way too intense and disjointed to enjoy. Very frenetic energy. I can appreciated how much went in to the show, yet it was way too much stimulus for my husband and I.

by Henry on 10/22/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Andrew Bird is beyond talented to say the least. Being able to sit up close and personal to the band thanks to presale access was an incredible experience. The venue was amazing and the perfect place for an intimate experience like this.

    Incredible Show

by Alex on 9/29/19Masonic Cleveland Auditorium - Cleveland

Maddison Cunningham was a brilliant opener who could very well steal the spotlight from your average headliner. Andrew Bird is far from it; with incredible violin runs and blistering finger speed, old school crooner vocals, stream of consciousness lyrical delivery, and gorgeous vocal harmonies (from Madison) neatly packaged into catchy & accessible yet still thought provoking tunes, this was certainly a show to remember. They live streamed the show the next night via The Current & it was equally amazing.

Andrew Bird is rare and unique.

by Rosco on 9/26/19The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

I've been to a few concerts in my day but none of them can compare to the unique experience of Andrew Bird. After listening to his music for over 15 years I figured it was time to see him live. His captivating style is so rare that the performance itself seems out of this world. The trippy light show and art design was mesmerizing. The entire band was great including the opening performance by Madison Cunningham. Her style and sound made me feel like I was placed in a time warp back to the late 60's. But the part of the concert that became even more special was the post album celtic style jam session of duos and trios. At that point Andrew, Madison, and their superb bassist kicked the whole concert up another notch. Who knows how to have fun at work? Andrew Bird.

    Mesmerizing!!!

by Geo on 9/26/19The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

From start to finish Madison Cunningham and Andrew Bird were absolutely phenomenal. This is my third time seeing Andrew Bird preform and it definitely will not be the last. I never heard of Madison Cunningham before and I am instantly a fan.
