About

A rotating line-up of guest stars (including Grammy® winner Fantasia, now through Feb. 9; k.d. lang, Feb. 11–March 9; and Toni Braxton & Babyface, March 18–30) headline AFTER MIDNIGHT on Broadway. With 25 sensational singers and dancers, this thrilling new musical brings the glamour of Harlem's Golden Age to a whole new generation.
At the heart of AFTER MIDNIGHT is The Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars, 17 world-class musicians hand-picked by Grammy winner Wynton Marsalis. The timeless songs of Duke Ellington and his contemporaries––woven together by the prose of Langston Hughes––come to life in an evening of cutting-edge song and dance. This experience puts you at the center of one of Harlem’s legendary nightclubs. Award-winning fashion designer Isabel Toledo reinvents the distinctive looks of the era with dazzling costumes. And, as directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, AFTER MIDNIGHT proves that jazz is more than music––it's a state of mind.

    Phenomenal music and dance

by AMHess on 6/29/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite shows ever. I saw it both years that it played (as Cotton Club Parade) at NY City Center and it never gets old. You won't be able to stay in your seat! The musicians and dancers are top-notch, and the musical selections are expertly curated by Wynton Marsalis. The 1920s-30s were a great time for music in Harlem. I'm surprised that its run on Broadway is coming to an end so soon, but it will be back.

    Refreshing Talent

by Bulshea on 6/29/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

The musical was most enjoyable, energetic and refreshing. We enjoyed the multi talented cast and although our adorable Patti wasn't present. Whatever the reason was okay with us, she's performed thousands of shows, but the cast was able to carry the weight and she wasn't missed. That's when you know there is talent in the midst and this cast is fabulous!

This was recommended to me and my family and I was not disappointed. I was excited throughout the entire play and was sad when it ended.

by CheleC on 6/29/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

The show was outstanding. Dancing was great. Performances perfect. Was a little surprised there was no intermission but it worked perfectly. First time I attended a night Bway performance and was out of the theatre before 10 pm. Thanks. I thoroughly enjoyed the show.

After Midnight : A Dance Spectacular

by tennistowin on 6/28/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

If you enjoy Broadway entertainment at its best, you will enjoy After Midnight! The dance numbers were extraordinary showing tremendous range and versatility. The dancers were like rubber dolls, twisting and turning, and doing splits and acrobatic feats. It was extremely entertaining and the choreography was amazing. The only drawback was Patti LaBelle's hoarse voice (give that woman a strong cup of tea with honey) but every one else was spectacular..

Patti LaBelle was NOT the Guest Star

by DownTownTheaterGoer on 6/28/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

I bought tickets specifically to see Patti LaBelle but on the night I saw the show, June 24, Patti LaBelle did NOT perform. The understudy went on, and she had little if any appeal, and was barely serviceable in the featured part. The rest of the cast and show was terrific, but with the hole in the center, due to the absence of the much-advertised Guest Star Patti LaBelle, the show suffered. The producers only notified the audience by a small insert in the program, and obviously were too afraid to be honest with the ticket buyers to make it clear upon entry into the theatre that the Guest Star would not be performing. No way would I have paid the top price I paid had I known that Patti LaBelle would not be performing as advertised.

    No Patti La Belle

by Beegail on 6/28/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

I came to see Patti La Belle and she didn't show up. We did not see the small note put inside our program. Almost looked like it was being concealed. I think we should have been told that Patti wasn't going to appear, The show was good and we enjoyed it but greatly missed the star quotient.. The stand in was only fair. Dule Hill was fair.

It was a real disappointment that Patti Labelle didn't show up. If we had known she wasn't performing we wouldn't have attended. The dancing was great but Patt 's replacement wasn't 't memorable. Overall a really disappointing evening. If you are going to attend buy tickets day of musical to see who is playing . Otherwise pick something else .

    Great fun!

Each and every performer and number was excellent - despite the fact that the show is soon ending. Can't imagine why as this was a feast for the eyes.

    After Midnight Flop

by Annsie on 6/28/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

I felt like I blinked and it was over! There was NO STORYLINE! It seemed more like a dance recital; not a Broadway play! The dancing, singing and costumes were great, but I only rate it a 6 on a scale of 1-10 since there was no story.

Fabulous music, song and dance show

by npress on 6/27/14Brooks Atkinson Theatre - New York

This musical revue is a pleasure. Great music from the 20s and 30s performed by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. The dancing is top notch. Fabulous costumes and lighting make the show interesting every moment. Patti La Belle is an amazing singer and I could have listened to her much more than her numbers in the show. The cast is talented and non-stop. The only reason this doesn't have 5 stars is that the nature of the show as a revue does warrant it - if there was a plot holding it all together it would have that extra dynamic. But as someone interested in jazz bands and good singers, this was exactly my cup of tea.

After Midnight is spectacular!!! It's the best dancing we've seen on Broadway in a long time. not to mention the singing. We definitely saw why Adriane Lenox was nominated for a Tony. INCREDIBLE!!! I can't say enough. We were saddened, however, to find that it would be closing after this week. In all truthfulness, our plan was to take out entire family to the show in July, to see Gladys Knight. But the announcement of the closing changed that. We couldn't take the whole family, as it wasn't in the financial plan, but we did go with friends. Everyone absolutely loved it!!!
