A rotating line-up of guest stars (including Grammy® winner Fantasia, now through Feb. 9; k.d. lang, Feb. 11–March 9; and Toni Braxton & Babyface, March 18–30) headline AFTER MIDNIGHT on Broadway. With 25 sensational singers and dancers, this thrilling new musical brings the glamour of Harlem's Golden Age to a whole new generation.
At the heart of AFTER MIDNIGHT is The Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars, 17 world-class musicians hand-picked by Grammy winner Wynton Marsalis. The timeless songs of Duke Ellington and his contemporaries––woven together by the prose of Langston Hughes––come to life in an evening of cutting-edge song and dance. This experience puts you at the center of one of Harlem’s legendary nightclubs. Award-winning fashion designer Isabel Toledo reinvents the distinctive looks of the era with dazzling costumes. And, as directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, AFTER MIDNIGHT proves that jazz is more than music––it's a state of mind.
TRULY ENTERTAINING!! Captivating dance performances and amazing music and vocals!
This is one of the best shows that I have seen on Broadway and definitely the best dancing I have ever seen live!! I do not understand why this show closed as I would definitely have seen again! The sets, the cast, the costumes, the orchestra, the music, the acting and the dancing were just mesmerizing!
The show was excellent, especially with Ms. Patti Labelle. She rocked it. Too bad the show is over now.
Patti Labelle was great . Dancers were outstanding!
Hearing those songs again, and the way Patti LaBelle sang them will remain one of my most memorable experiences. I can't believe one of the best shows i have ever seen is now closed.
WONDERFUL SHOW. THE DANCERS WERE AMAZING I HOPE THEY COME BACK NEXT YEAR. THE VENUE, HOWEVER, HAD A FEW BUGS FLYING AROUND WHICH IS DISTURBING.
It was AWESOME!! The band, dancing, singing and acting were GREAT!! I'd go see it again..and a third time!!
This show was filled with extremely talented dancers and musicians. They were upbeat, energetic, happy. I so thoroughly enjoyed this production and compared the quality of dance to seeing the late great Gregory Hines on Broadway and Savion Glover. This talented group of performers deserve to have had a very long run. It is so sad that I saw the closing show since I would have gone again with friends.
After Midnight was superb. This was the second time I had seen the show. Each time had a different star. This time with Patti LaBelle was real good but Patti's moos was affected by the fact that it was the last show and it was closing that day.
GREAT SHOW. I would recommended this show to anyone that loves music and dancing. I would see it again.
I didn't expect to have seats so close to the stage. The entire production made you feel like you were part of a real Cotton Club. The dancing and singing were AMAZING! The entire cast are extremely talented! It was also an honor to see Patti LaBelle perform live on stage. The orchestra was visible to the entire audience and gave a breathtaking performance. It is definitely a must see event.
The show was WONDERFUL!!! The entire cast is incredibly talented! Patti LaBelle is truly as amazing live as she is on tv! If you appreciate tap dance and good singing, this is definitely the show to see!
love the music!!!!!!!!! Great singers!!!!! Loved Patti. The Band was absolutely Great!!!!!!!!!!!!
The show has many talented performers that will keep you capitivated with their singing and tap-dancing. As a South African I see many shows back home. This show reminded me much of the type of dance and singing that the South African Cape Coloureds could relate to the District Six era. This was the corresponding era for those that lived in Harlem back in the day. The show was very alive. Biggest disappointment was that Patti Labelle didn't perform and there was no formal announcement to this fact. Only a notice in the Playbill booklet.
I looooooved it! This show should not be ending! I did not know that Dule had a tap background! And he sings, too! Ms. LaBelle was great of course--I'M ON A MISSION TO SEE HER IN CONCERT! I loved the subtleties...like ehen the singer was letting her "Daddy know what she liked".
Loved this show. Outstanding band, dancers and singers. Recommend it.
Loved the dancing and singing. I wish Dule had danced more. I was shocked to hear his really nice voice. The tap dancer was immaculate. That thin girl with the jokes about her man, was super great. She reminded me of Melba Moore. I saw Patti, now I'm going back to see my other girl, Natalie Cole. Don't have a ticket????????? Get one. Patty could'nt hit the high notes, kept coughing, but I still loved the show.
This was one of the most elegant, glamorous productions I've ever seen. I am both saddened and surprised that they had to end their run early. I worry that the show didn't do that well for two reasons: 1. People under say, 35, don't know what the Cotton Club was, and don't know about the exciting history and significance of Harlem. 2. The trend of making Broadway shows out of movies. There is nothing wrong with that in theory, but now shows that don't have the name recognition of films like Legally Blonde or film-tv-comics like Spiderman don't have a real chance. That's not what theatre is supposed to be about. People are losing the ability to recognize and appreciate originality.
Enjoyable from beginning to end! Very talented dancers and singers.
I really love this show. The music, the dancing, the singing were marvelous. It was my 10th time in attendance to this show. Patti LaBelle was fantastic. I hope the show would continue running. I will miss it.
