About

The quintessential backstage musical comedy classic, 42nd Street is the song and dance fable of Broadway with an American Dream story and includes some of the greatest songs ever written, such as “We’re In The Money,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” “Shuffle Off To Buffalo,” “Dames,” “I Only Have Eyes For You” and of course “42nd Street.”

Based on a novel by Bradford Ropes and Busby Berkeley’s 1933 movie, 42nd Street tells the story of a starry-eyed young dancer named Peggy Sawyer who leaves her Allentown home and comes to New York to audition for the new Broadway musical Pretty Lady. When the leading lady breaks her ankle, Peggy takes over and becomes a star. With a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, music by Harry Warren and lyrics by Al Dubin, this sparkling new production will be directed by co-author Mark Bramble and choreographed by Randy Skinner, the team who staged the 2001 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Revival.

    Just ok

    by Hamilton123 on 3/14/16Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I was pretty disappointed with the quality of this tour. I saw the national tour in 2003 and I couldn't believe how different this was compared to my memories. All the actors seemed to be fresh out of school and the caliber of acting, singing, and dancing was below my expectations of a national tour. Scenery was pretty low budget as well...left me wondering where my ticket price had gone. Julian Marsh was great, but honestly everyone else seemed out of place or unfamiliar with how to execute a show like this.

42nd Street -- Fabulous, simply fabulous!

From the opening curtain to the last bows 42nd Street delivers high energy entertainment. The dancing and singing were captivating. There is so much action going on stage that you can't possible follow everything that is happening in one viewing. And that is one of the reasons I am going back to see it again.

    42nd Street (Chicago) was amazing

by BallroomBaby on 3/12/16Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Saw this play at least 30 years ago in Chicago, and this performance is definitely my preference. The dancing and singing talent is so enjoyable. The choreography is delightful although I must admit I would have liked to see more "Rockette-style" leg kicks. This was our first time in the Cadillac Palace Theater, and we were on the main floor. Next time, we will book seats in the Dress Circle for a better view.

    Fantastic Dancing Feet

by Danzin on 3/12/16Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The play was very enjoyable and the dancing was fantastic as well as the choreography. The stage actually looked like it could be bigger to fit all the dancers. I would say it is one of the best that I have seen at Broadway Chicago.
