About

The quintessential backstage musical comedy classic, 42nd Street is the song and dance fable of Broadway with an American Dream story and includes some of the greatest songs ever written, such as “We’re In The Money,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” “Shuffle Off To Buffalo,” “Dames,” “I Only Have Eyes For You” and of course “42nd Street.”

Based on a novel by Bradford Ropes and Busby Berkeley’s 1933 movie, 42nd Street tells the story of a starry-eyed young dancer named Peggy Sawyer who leaves her Allentown home and comes to New York to audition for the new Broadway musical Pretty Lady. When the leading lady breaks her ankle, Peggy takes over and becomes a star. With a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, music by Harry Warren and lyrics by Al Dubin, this sparkling new production will be directed by co-author Mark Bramble and choreographed by Randy Skinner, the team who staged the 2001 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Revival.

    Spectacular

by Gonton on 3/21/16Cadillac Palace - Chicago

If there was a situation where you could only see one Broadway play, this is it. This was the 3rd time I have seen the big production over the years and it is still thrilling to see. The performers are the best in their field , the sets are wonderful and the costumes are awsome. Not only is the performance a spectacular play but the story that goes along with the play is nice as well. You would have to be a total curmudgeon not to appreciate the hard work these performers present. A must see in my book. The worst part is paying high parking fees in Chicago and the lousy drive in from the suburbs. The other negative aspect is the high ticket fees that Ticketmaster charges.

    Fantastic show!

by Kwasette on 3/20/16Cadillac Palace - Chicago

We get to Chicago about five times a year and we try to see a show when we have the time. 42nd Street was wonderful. Choreography was excellent, actors were right on target, and enjoyed the tap dancing which has sadly gone by the wayside. Nothing but kudos!!

    Tap dancing triumphs!

by BaboM on 3/19/16Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I've always loved seeing tap dancing; regrettably, it doesn't appear very often in stage musicals anymore. That's why it was such a treat to see the current production of the old musical that is set in 1933. Being of a certain age, I know the songs in the play and it was fun to hear them performed live. The sets for the tap dancing numbers were great and the dancing itself was terrific. Bravo to this group of young hoofers! The acting was fine and the singing wonderfully performed. The reprise of "42nd Street" by Matthew J. Taylor at the end of the play was a treat. I loved the costumes for the major dance numbers as well as for the rehearsal number at the beginning of the performance. All in all, a very enjoyable experience!

42nd Street is a Classic Gem

    by DougR121 on 3/19/16Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I had never seen 42nd Street, but knew of its reputation as a grand and elaborate production. Both my impression, and that of my companion, is that it fully lived up to this reputation. I had also never seen a production with such intricate dance choreography and I must say that I was beyond impressed at the skill and artistry with which the performance was carried out by a cast of strong dancers. Overall, it was a terrific production that I highly recommend; it is a wonderful experience.

    Absolutely Amazing Tap Dancing!

by unclerouse on 3/16/16Cadillac Palace - Chicago

One of the best musicals I have ever seen! I regret waiting so long to see this classic! Right from the rising of the curtains this one had me! The music was fabulous - many classics that are so well known; the story was anti-modern, for lack of a better word - none of the b.s. entanglements etc. that tend to clog modern plays and musicals; and the dancing was completely out-of-this-world! How these dancers were able to sing and keep their composure between numbers is awe-inspiring! I can't wait till it comes to Chicago again!
