    Fanservice delivered.

by IWAC on 10/23/11Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

The music of The Legend of Zelda is simple, evocative, memorable, and utterly iconic. Although there have been orchestral takes on these familiar tunes sporadically over the years, none of these efforts have boasted the breadth or refinement exhibited by these fresh new arrangements presented at the 25h Anniversary Symphony. The arrangers did just enough to embellish the music without losing the quaint honesty of the original interpretations, while the warmth and enthusiasm of conductor Eímear Noone heralded a tight, glossy performance from San Diego's Orchestra Nova and the CSU Fullerton chorus. Although there was a noticeable disappointment from fans who expected the presence of video game legend Shigeru Miyamoto, all was forgiven most sincerely thanks to Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma, whose modest charm and humor easily delighted despite language barrieres. The concert became especially poignant when composer Koji Kondo took the stage and performed a sentimental piano solo for the encore. The honor of having these two guests set what was already poised to be a magical evening well over the top. The experience went well beyond what occurred on stage. The event fell between the realms formal concert and a fan convention, with the organizers hosting raffles, interviews, and costume contests. Fans brought their 3DS systems in droves, playing games and exchanging data while waiting in line for the doors to open. Stepping into the Pantages' regal lobby, I found the royal family of Hyrule's heraldry adorning the walls while inventive cosplayers posed for photos and scores of fans made bee lines to Wii kiosks demoing The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Although the fan's loud overreaction to some of the nostalgic video images during the concert was a bit irksome to me, it was well worth it to have such a unique, good-natured community experience at this fabulous venue.

    The best Orchestra ever

by Laverii on 10/23/11Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Orchestra was the most terrific thing I have ever seen/heard in my life. Not only did the orchestra played beautifully and the conducter clearly knows what she was doing and talking about, the music they played at the orchestra will send you on a memory lane journey throughout all the Zelda games. The concert gave off a very nostalgic feeling of the Zelda series, and it was fun recognizing the songs. It was too bad Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto(the creator of the Zelda series/general producer) could not make it, but seeing Eiji Aonuma (producer) and Koji Kondo (Music supervisor) was awesome. It was also fun watching some of the game clips from the Zelda series on the screen. This was a great orchestra, and I hope that sometime in the future they will hold another Legend of Zelda concert.

This symphony was amazing. Any Legend of Zelda fan would have simply adored this show. There was a large diversity in the song selections, the musicians were great (only a couple minor, hard to notice, slip-ups), the conductor was a joy, and there were surprise visits from producer Eiji Aonuma and composer Koji Kondo. Overall the show was fantastic and any Zelda lover should be there.

    Awestruck!

by Swivl on 10/23/11Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

The selection was varied and nearly complete, with few pieces left out of the show. Chances are good your favorite Zelda game was represented well. The acoustics and overall performance was unbelievably well done. I love the theater, and the orchestra, but most of all, I love the music.

    It was unforgettable!!

by supermj64 on 10/23/11Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

my friend and I managed to enjoy ourselves despite constant distractions from the crowd, and the couple arguing behind us. The music was great and the venue was very nice plus surprises from the Zelda team.

    Great music, subpar orchestra

by Cheezeman3000 on 10/23/11Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

Came to this concert expecting great things considering this is Nintendo's 2nd biggest franchise. Arrangements were about what I expected, so for the most part no surprises, except I was really blown away by the game-centric medleys for TWW and TP (even though the arranger left out Midna's theme?! what?!). I ended up disappointed though because the orchestra they hired, some philharmonic from San Diego, was just abysmal. Violins were always out of sync, french horns were missing every other note... it sounded like a rehearsal with my college orchestra. Thankfully the CSUF chorus was great as always, so that plus the videos were enough to distract from the awful orchestra most of the time. Highlights were the "introducing the orchestra" section (kids definitely learned a thing or two from that), and the surprise cameo of Koji Kondo at the end! Listening to him play one of the lesser known themes that was obviously one of his favorites was a complete joy and I could not have asked for a more pleasant surprise. That alone extended my rating up by one star.

    Legend of Zelda...

by OhSheila on 10/23/11Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

These tickets were gifts to my kids as they are HUGE Zelda fans. They were so hoping to see Miyamoto himself...but Eiji Aunoma and Koji Kondo more than made up for it! The symphony was absolutely beautiful! The conductor (a woman, no less!) engaged the audience with stories the music was leading us through, the game clips brought the whole evening together. Hearing my kids gasp at each new song, the "awwww...I love this one"...even the tear or two shed for the sheer beauty of the music and memory of the game...A wonderful evening. It shows just how much people love these games.

This is by far the best concert I have ever been to. The music was beautifully done, and made me cry during every moment of the performance. I highly recommend that everyone go see this if they can. I know I'll be going to see it again.

Fun for kids and adults alike!

by Jckai on 10/23/11Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

Great musical experience for kids who are Zelda fans. What better way to give music appreciation to kids than incorporating their love for video games with great orchestral experience.

    An awesome experience!

by Haruchan on 10/23/11Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

This symphony concert was an unforgettable experience. It takes all of the old Zelda songs you know and love to a whole new level with a full orchestra and choir. With the video playing in the back, it completes the experience. I brought my parents with me to the concert, and they really liked it even though they haven't played the game or listened to the music before. For anyone who is a fan of "The Legend of Zelda" series, I would definitely recommend this to them.

    Great show.

by NormanBates on 10/23/11Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary show was amazing. The only downfall... With VIP tickets... 2 of the guests we were supposed to meet... Left before we could meet them. Eiji aonouma, and keiji kondo, left just as the meet and greet started. Their reason, "They were too overwhelmed by their fans."

About time they held such an event!

by NovaAlamak on 10/23/11Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

A night I will surely never forget! The show, the swag, the demos - it was as though we were being included in something very VIP with Nintendo's hands all over it. I honestly can't imagine how anyone could have done a better job. As the founder of a Nintendo radio station and an enthusiast of The Legend of Zelda since age 3, I was thoroughly impressed and driven to tears by the incredible performance. WELL DONE

Unforgettable Music with an Unprepared Orchestra

by ReviewNick on 10/23/11Pantages Theatre - Los Angeles

Let me just start by saying that the event was very well organized and put-together, and while the orchestra was not bad by any means, there were a few gripes that kept me from giving this event a five-star rating. First of all, at the beginning of each section of the concert, it took the orchestra a minute or so (after tuning and everything) to begin to play together, which caused some of the arrangements to receive detrimental treatment they did not deserve. Also, in the second section of the concert, the video began to lag out, and had to be replaced with livestream of the conductor while the technical issue was resolved.
