About

With four Grammy awards and eight million albums sold worldwide, Yolanda Adams is considered one of the greatest gospel performers of her era, achieving a level of success outside of her genre that few other gospel artists have experienced. After singing in several local Houston choirs as a child, Adams made her debut as a solo artist in 1988 with Just As I Am. The album was initially criticized for its fusion of jazz with traditional gospel, but the unique sound soon became her trademark. She hangs with the best while on tour, making worldwide stops throughout her career and performing to sold-out arenas of thousands of ticket holders. Her style is considered one of the bases for modern gospel, with its fusion of jazz, traditional gospel and rhythm and blues. Some of her live concert performances, such as Live in Washington, have gone on to become Grammy-winning performances. In 2011, she released her 11th studio album, Becoming, to critical acclaim.

Adams initially captured the attention of gospel labels when she debuted as a lead singer with Houston's Southeast Inspirational Choir. After her debut album took off, so, too, did her professional career, culminating with her most famous single, "The Battle is The Lord's". Her album, Mountain High...Valley Low, would earn Adams her first Grammy Award and a Dove Award. Along with several national honors, her career has been so genre-defining that in 2009, Billboard Magazine named her Best Gospel Artist of the Last Decade.

    Simply a blessing!!

by LadyRoyalty on 5/10/10Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

Yolanda Adams...TALKED ENTIRELY TOO MUCH, DANG! She only sang 4-1/2 songs and none of them were favorites like (Open My Heart, The Battle is Not Yours, In the Midst of it All, It's Gone Be Nice, Already Alright, Through the Storm, Etc.). I was VERY disappointed in her show. Word of advice Yolanda...we paid to hear you sing, NOT TALK, so get it together my sister. Ty Tribbett & Pastor Marvin Sapp...INCREDIBLE!!! They brought energy, they came with a force of power that brought me to tears and to a dance. Their testimonies were encouraging and I was truly blessed by their Ministries.

    Joyful

by Magnificent1 on 5/10/10Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

The concert was wonderful. I loved the fact that they were punctual and every artist flowed from one end to the next. I am very glad that I attended. The venue was perfect for this type of event and the workers were on there job. Thanks for enabling me to a great event with my mom.

    Disappointed

by meme1974 on 11/1/09IP CASINO RESORT AND SPA - Biloxi

I love Yolanda Adams and have seen her twice before this show. I was highly disappointed in the allotted time of the show. She could not have done more than 4 or 5 songs total. I wanted to request for partial refund. The show was not worth what I paid for my 3rd row ticket price for two seats. In the future if you are going to have a show with that type of limited time the ticket prices need to be lower. I'm very skeptical about coming back to another show at this venue.

    Great vocalist with heart-felt sincerity

by Vett on 9/22/09IP CASINO RESORT AND SPA - Biloxi

There is no doubt about the vocal abilities of Ms Adams. She was great! I would have loved to see more of her well known songs performed. She talked quite a bit during the performance and gave some testimonies which was fine, however, with the show only being one hour, I was disappointed that she didn't sing more. I don't know if there was a time limit placed by the casino hotel ( Imperial Palace in Biloxi) or if this is her standard performing time limit.

Amateur production, so sad for the headliners!

by Toomad on 9/21/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

I was sorely disappointed by this production. The show was reminiscent of a rehearsal!!! The venue was barely filled, yet I paid a good price for tickets far up in the balcony, as if that was all available. The stage show was awful as all transitions between acts were visible to all, no curtain pulled or anything. Sound was awful; music too loud and vocals garbled, as well as too much feedback from microphone. Worst of all, the show was cut short before Yolanda Adams really got into her set. She looked more shocked than most of the audience. She promised that if we showed ticket stubs at the next event we would be given front row seats. I don't know how she can make this happen, but I won't hold my breath for the next show. Sorry!

by traj on 9/20/09IP CASINO RESORT AND SPA - Biloxi

yolanda is a great performer and i will recommend her show to everyone if she comes again. This is nothing to do with yolanda, but i think the bar should have been close for a gospel concert.

by RedstickLA on 9/19/09IP CASINO RESORT AND SPA - Biloxi

Yolanda Adams has a fabulous voice and briings so much energy to ther stage. My only wish is that the concert would have lasted more than one hour. I think she was only able to sing 4-5 songs. Would have loved to have another hour.

    Inspirational Performance

by Shonta on 9/19/09IP CASINO RESORT AND SPA - Biloxi

Yolanda Adams was wonderful in her performance at the IP Casino and Resort. I really enjoyed hearing about her personal experiences before and after her songs. In this time when you here so many negitive things, I believe it's uplifting to everyone to here some positive stories. I only wish her performance lasted longer. Maybe this can send a message to other gospel artist that it's not where you perform its the message that you relay. You could be singing gospel in a club and may touch someone in a special way. Great job Yolanda!

    Yolanda Only Sung 5 Songs!

by Sweetpetite on 9/19/09IP CASINO RESORT AND SPA - Biloxi

I was disappointed. She was on stage only 1 hour and 30 minutes of that was testimonials. It appeared that she was surprised when she realized she was out of time. For the cost of the ticket, I didn't get my money's worth.

    Mixed

by praiseceleb on 9/15/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

Don't know if it was the acoustics of the venue or where we were sitting but sound was a problem. It wasn't very clear and there was the problem of the instruments being louder than the vocalists. You could see that the artistes were singing their hearts out but they couldn't be heard very clearly where I was. However enjoyed the well-known songs. It was also nice to see Larry Jones and Marcus Wiley although would have liked to have a heard a little bit more from them. It appeared they were just marking time until Yolanda came out. There was a positive atmosphere and would want to experience something similar again but for the money, I'd want more of a balanced sound (more vocals) and if in a large location, more use of screens to enable better visuals. Dottie Peoples was amazing!

    What Happen to Yolanda Adams

by Metroya on 9/15/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

I really enjoyed this event. However, Yolanda Adams did not perform long enough and I was very disappointed. First of all the concert was set for another date and then changed to 9/11/09. I brought my Mom with me and wanted to make sure she had the opportunity to see Yolanda but that did not happen. Then my Mom misplaced her key and we had to wait outside the Civic Center for the tow truck to come. Once the tow truck got there we didn't get home until around 1:45am. Bottom line I feel like I was robbed spiritually but everything happens for a reason.

Dottie and Bishop Morton saved the day!

by niquina on 9/14/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

Dottie Peeples and Bishop Morton made this a worthwhile experience. Yolanda Adams (my usual all-time favorite gospel artist) was a HUGE disappointment. She sang maybe two songs, preached, and then abruptly left the stage with a "sorry" when she was told that time was up. Again, Dottie Peeoples and Bishop Morton were a HUGE blessing that night. If it were not for them, the night would have been extremely disappointing.

yolanda adams should have talked less & sang more

by bellony on 9/14/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

the celebration of praise was great - until yolanda adams (the main person) came out and talked more than she sang. She only sang 3 songs, and none of them were her "oldies but goodies". When she said she had to go, i thought she was kidding. everyone in the audience was kind of like "it is over, for real"? "you've got to be kidding me after eagerly waiting 2 weeks for the show (and spending $100 for 2 tickets) my husband and I were extremely disappointed that the main artist didn't give us "oru money's worth". We enjoyed the evening, but i would not pay to see yolanda adams again (and she has always been one of my favorite gospel singers)

    Celebration of Praise

by sigye on 9/12/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

The evening went well and was quite inspiration in the begining. Various acts before Dottie Peoples" performance were trully uplifiting. Dottie and Bishop Paul S Martin really entered in the spirit of praise and worship. However, Yolanda Adams perfomance was dissappointing. Though she spoke words of wisdom between each of the 3 performances and think she went overboard and where her fans wanted to hear her sing we had to hear preaching instead. It could be the reason why she went over the alloted time for the concert and abruptly the lights were turned on and she was stunned by it and so was I I truly love the Yoland Adams and family morning show but this was a singing concert. I can't say I would not attend the event next year but I would be more cautious if she was on the program as to what her platform was going to be...perhaps she should have performed the entire concert and therefore getting the time she needed for "wisdom speaks" and singing
