About

With four Grammy awards and eight million albums sold worldwide, Yolanda Adams is considered one of the greatest gospel performers of her era, achieving a level of success outside of her genre that few other gospel artists have experienced. After singing in several local Houston choirs as a child, Adams made her debut as a solo artist in 1988 with Just As I Am. The album was initially criticized for its fusion of jazz with traditional gospel, but the unique sound soon became her trademark. She hangs with the best while on tour, making worldwide stops throughout her career and performing to sold-out arenas of thousands of ticket holders. Her style is considered one of the bases for modern gospel, with its fusion of jazz, traditional gospel and rhythm and blues. Some of her live concert performances, such as Live in Washington, have gone on to become Grammy-winning performances. In 2011, she released her 11th studio album, Becoming, to critical acclaim.

Adams initially captured the attention of gospel labels when she debuted as a lead singer with Houston's Southeast Inspirational Choir. After her debut album took off, so, too, did her professional career, culminating with her most famous single, "The Battle is The Lord's". Her album, Mountain High...Valley Low, would earn Adams her first Grammy Award and a Dove Award. Along with several national honors, her career has been so genre-defining that in 2009, Billboard Magazine named her Best Gospel Artist of the Last Decade.

    Yolanda was very disappointing

by Chocklit on 4/24/11UNO Lakefront Arena - New Orleans

I went to the concert ready to be spiritually stirred. Instead, the show started about one half hour late. While waiting we were "treated" to secular music even the blues! JessicaReedy, James Fortune and Deitrick Haddon were fantastic and full of spirit! Deitrick's performance was very "unconventional" to say the least. Liked his session, but wished he had calmed down bit to catch up with the sound. His voice sounded different from his recording. Yolanda only sang two pieces with which I was familiar and her portion of the program was the shortest! She dragged out two other songs that I had never heard. When will performers get the idea that most people go to thier shows to see them perform the music we already know? I don't think it if fair to debut an upcoming project on an audience.

The Good Friday Celebration was outstanding! It was a spirit filled event and not just a concert! It was a Praise Celebration and it helped you to keep your focus on the Resurrected Christ!

    A true fresh fire annointing

by kayarnold on 4/24/11UNO Lakefront Arena - New Orleans

I went with my sister in Christ, and Im sooo glad I did. I enjoyed sharing this experience with someone and I had an awesome time. some people were disappointed with Yolanda but because I already read the reviews from the other cities I was prepared for her change up so to speak. She still minister to us the way no one but Yolanda can. There was no need to be mad that the few classics she did sing she sung to a different tempo, her performance was still good. Alot of the songs that are her classics are more than ten years old, she just might be tired of singing them or have something else to minister. I loved the entire show. James Fortune and Fiya, Deitrick Hadden and Jessica Reddy, did amazing as well. I teared up, shouted, praise. I felt like I was in church with some awesome worshipping experiences. I loved the show. Even the comedian in between acts, who started off terrible, but ended up being hilarious. The host had a great message to the saints of God as well. Amen and God bless them all.

I felt that this event could have been a little bit longer! I felt that for the money paid we should have received a better show when it came to the time. It seem just a little rushed!

The Concert ws awesome-just shorter than expected!

by BlessedByDaBest on 5/13/10Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

Yolanda Adams was awesome. Tye Tribbett was great and sooo energetic. Marvin Sapp was fabulous and the explanation behing his song "The Best in Me"...fantastic! I just thought it would have been longer after doing research and saw how many performers were part of the "All Star" Celebration. Maybe I missed the part that said it would only be 3 people. I don't know.

    God was in the building...

by MommaBurn on 5/13/10Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

It was like going to Church again. The performances were moving and ALL SPIRIT filled. I did not feel like I was at a Concert but, a Church Musical. It was Soulful, and moving. Each song, and each performer was filled with the Holy Spirit. This was not the place to sit down and look pretty, you need ed to raise your hands and give praise.

all star mothers day celebration was awesome!!!!!!

by demia on 5/11/10Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

This event was spirit filled. It felt like we were at a church service. I felt the holy ghost moving all up in my bones!!! I praised the LORD, I waved my hands, I stomped my feet, I stood up for some Hallelujahs and thank you JESUS, I sung with the audience. The comedian was good also. It was so uplifting to hear Yolanda, Ty and Marvin share experiences and deliverances they received in their life. It helps sometimes to get that reassurance that everything is going to be fine.

All Star Mother's Day Celebration was Glorious!

by PMCSouthside on 5/11/10Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

My husband and son treated me to the All Start Mother's Day show and it was absolutely Glorious! The comic was hilarious and made some very interesting comparisons! LOL , You should have been there! Yolanda Adams followed and ministered in song and dance! Halleluyah! Then, Ty Tribett lit up the entire stage and energized the saints with song and gospel truths! He brought the WORD! I'm still jumping as I think.....about it! The show as sensational! You really missed a treat!

    Absolutely Exhilirating!

by MsSage on 5/11/10Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

I am not sure who designed this All Star Mother's Day Celebration, but I just want to say that it was indeed an All Star line up and performance. They did an excellent job putting together the performers and the performers did an excellent job allowing God to use them on stage. I can not think of anywhere else I would have rather been this past Sunday! Can't wait for the next one!

    Marvin was amazing!!!

by terryfoofoo on 5/10/10Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

I took my mother for Mother's Day as a surprise. I has to say that this concert was amazing! I think that Yolanda Adams is a remarkable and spiritual woman. I was a tad bit upset that she did not perform some of her older songs. She performed all her ner songs, that most of us in the crowd are not aware of. She still rocked the place. Her voice is so uplifting. Ty was full of energy. He was all over the stage. He didn't do as much singing as I would have liked. He definitely did some preaching. If you were not able to attend church, then you were in for a royal treat. Then there was the Rev. Marvin Sapp. Oh my goodness! He rocked and moved Arie Crown. He did a fabulous job. He sung a couple of songs that I did not know that he made. When he sung "Never Would Have Made It", the building rocked from excitement and anticipation. All in all, this concert was uplifting. I am glad that I was apart of it. Definitely would recommend for all households.

    Maybe, Maybe not!

by SoWhat1 on 5/10/10Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

I took my wife and children to the celebration, and we found the celebration to be entertaining to our ears and to our eyes. The music was rocking and we liked the entire list of artist, but we were a little confused with Yolanda Adams being first in the rotation. Some of the people within the theater were acting as if we were in church, which I found unsettling. I like to go to church and not act like I’m at a concert; I would have liked those people to have done the same thing. We left the theater happy we had allotted time and money for the show.

    Can I get a refund?

by Gemini6 on 5/10/10Arie Crown Theater - Chicago

Ok, so I bought my tickets in Jan and was very excited to go because I had 4th row seats. Let me start off by saying I was so excited to see Yolanda Adams, but her performance did not meet my standards. She sung songs that no one knew and it really wasnt that great. Marvin Sapp was stupendous. I loved his performance, he should have been the headliner. Tye Tribett was a surprise guest. He could have stayed at home, He was 2 hrs late so he only ended up singing 2 songs. Overall the only thing that made me happy was Marvin Sapp, I will pay money to see him anyday. That's why I gave it 3 stars I have to give him his props, otherwise it would have been 1 star.
