    Yes and Styx

by WmKing on 8/4/11Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Great Concert. Can't decide which band was better. Been listening to Yes since 1972. Love the Close to the Edge album. They could have played more from it. Styx has more hits, and their performance was as good as any recording. I really enjoyed myself.

    Yes should retire

by KDahill on 8/4/11Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Styx was on fire as usual. Best I've seen them in five or six shows, and their always on it. Yes was a sorry disappointment. They used to be impeccable. Most of the notes were there but there was no life in the show and the tempos were all slowed down. Physically they were an embarassment anyone over 50. Maybe that's why Jon Anderson isn't on the tour, the replacement singer was a weak parody.

Yes was good. Styx was good.

These two groups don't belong together. Two different genres, two different sets of fans.

    A Trip down Memory Lane

by oldprogrocker on 8/4/11Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

First time seeing Styx, 7th time seeing Yes: Styx in their current lineup did justice to their catalog, performing crisp renditions of several classics, opening with "Blue Collar Man" and closing with "Come Sail Away". A surprise appearance by band co-founder and bass player Chuck Panozzo was included. The band played enthusiastically, sticking close to the studio arrangements of their works. All in all an enjoyable outing for a band that was in its prime 30 years ago. Yes is now down to only three of the "classic" Yes members (Howe, Squire, White), but did justice to their music with the help of Geoff Downes back on keyboards and Benoit David on vocals (sounding remarkably like Jon Anderson, if not as strong vocally - he may have just had a bad night). Much to my surprise, they have a new album out with this lineup and included one of the new songs in their set. Downes is competent on keyboards, if not as flashy as Rick Wakeman. My friend who i just introduced to Yes a couple of weeks ago was suitably impressed at their musicianship, particularly by Steve Howe's consistently amazing guitar work.

Yes and Styx - A wonderful show!

by HelpMeRonda on 8/4/11Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Both acts were fabulous! Styx had amazing energy and had us up out of our seats, singing along the entire set. Loved the revolving keyboard! The transition of sets from Styx to Yes was very quick. Yes put on a brilliant show; they are master musicians. Benoit David as the new lead singer is a great addition. Would definitely see both acts again. The only disappointment was that they did not play "Leave It." Meet and greet with Yes was very organized so everyone was able to get pictues with the band and autographs. The show was definitely worth the money. I would see both acts again. The Greek is a GREAT venue for a show.

    Amazing and fun show

by deerockster on 8/4/11Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Styx rocked it from the first song. Great energy and the audience was moving and grooving to every song. Yes was great too...though it has always more of a 'listening to' type band where the audience doesn't stand much, etc. It's funny watching Yes walk on the stage and you see a few old men...then they just rock it non-stop, especially Steve Howe. He looked pretty frail, but he played better than I've ever seen him play. He is still a stunning player and rocked it for the whole set, never letting up. Seems like most people thought that the two bands should have been switched around in order, YES should have opened and then Styx since they were the more lively ones. I pretty much agree, though meaning no disrespect to the members of Yes... Oh, the sound mix for Yes was HORRID most of the time. Seemed like the house mixer liked to move faders a lot and then forgot where he put them. Various instruments would be ducked out and then they had a solo and they were still ducked out, etc. I'm a professional Post Sound mixer and I can tell u that the house mixer was very inexperienced or pretty drunk. The house mixer for Styx was phenomenal. OVERALL: Really glad I went and had a lot of fun at the concert. The greek theatre is a great place to see nice concerts such as this one. Though the parking is a challenge at this venue...a great and very dusty challenge.

    Great performance but too short

by Anonymous on 8/4/11Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

I came to show specifically to see Yes. I like the Styx too, but Yes was what I paid to see. I was disappointed that the Styx took up most of the show, leaving Yes feeling a little rushed on stage. If the show could've gone on till 1130, that would have been awesome.

Still Rockin after all these years

by GordonB on 8/4/11Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Styx opened and were pretty good but thevocals were a bit weak. Not sure if it was a mixing issue or if the just can't quite get up to the right level. Overall a good show. Yes was fantastic. They nailed just about every song from their Classics best of CD.

    YES and STYX

by Robilator on 8/4/11Chateau Ste Michelle Winery - Woodinville

Styx played well did all their hits except MR Roboto, very disappointed that this song was the one which won them a lot of popularity. Yes was good, it sounded like they were jamming and as talented as they are they just couldn't pull it off because the lead singer was not Jon Anderson. He is the heart and soul and energy of Yes without him they could just be another tribute band. I have been a Yes fan since they first started. Steve Howe is still my favorite guitar player. But when can you say enough is enough. One other thing that piised me off is that they wouldn't let you bring in cameras yet you ask for photos and videos. I guess if I did have a ST.Michell Winery bag Icould have brought in anything. Very bogus.

    Awesome show

by GamblinJoe on 8/3/11Chateau Ste Michelle Winery - Woodinville

I went mainly to see Yes (Styx was great also - I was a bit surprised by this) and I also saw Yes last year - and the improvement in the singing and the music was tremendous! It's not Jon Anderson but its somewhat close - Jon's singing is a bit softer - especially in Heart of the Sunrise but Benoit David is no slouch. He seems much more comfortable and I think he did a fantastic job at this concert!

    Styx Great, Yes good

by DawgOut on 8/3/11Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery - Woodinville

I have seen Yes 3 times in the last 3 years and this was their weakest performance. They missed Rick Wakeman's son on the keyboards, Geoff Downes had trouble hitting all the notes. Styx was great, Tommy Shaw sounded terrific, his voice and guitar playing were spot on. Man In The Wilderness was terrific, great playing by all members of Styx.

    70s night at the winery

by NorthBendConcertFan on 8/3/11Chateau Ste Michelle Winery - Woodinville

Styx & Yes were a great combination. Styx played all their great songs and sounded awesome. Yes played a different set than the last show I saw, but ran up against curfew and I felt like were cut short. The meet & greet option with Yes was fun and the photos were great.

Styx and yes sound better than ever

by gatonucleosis on 8/2/11Chateau Ste Michelle Winery - Woodinville

The venue was awesome. The bands did not disappoint. The weather perfect. I would have paid twice that amount to see two acts as good and with as much class as styx and yes.

    Yes and Styx

by MissLedHead on 8/1/11Chateau Ste Michelle Winery - Woodinville

I went for YES and ended up loving Styx. Styx was really rockin' out. Seemed way more alive than YES, and I am a huge fan of YES. The new lead singer for YES is quite amazing, I must say however. He was a total sound-alike to Jon Anderson. The rest of the band, with the exception of Alan White, seemed like they were just going through the motions. A bit of a disappointment from prior shows. All-in-all, a real good time with the exception of the 40-50 age drunks sitting next to us that talked throughout the entire show. What's the deal with that?

    Styx and Yes

by Mdah on 8/1/11Chateau Ste Michelle Winery - Woodinville

First time at the Winery. The venue is OUTSTANDING! The sound is great, the food is great, the overall atmosphere is great. Styx was MUCH better than I had anticipated! Lots of energy and great song choices! I really got the impression that they were having a good time and consequentley everyone else had a good time too! Yes was a little disappointing. The band seemed a little tired which was a bit surprising because Alan White lives in the area and I expected the band to be energized if for no other reason than that. Yes was a GREAT album rock band and I have been a fan since the "Yes Album" was released in 1971. I had never seen them in concert so, for me, expectations were probably too high. In my opinion Styx stole the show.

    Awesome!

by Tiggermom on 8/1/11Chateau Ste Michelle Winery - Woodinville

Just as I remember them from my high school days! Band gets 5 stars. St. Michele for this event, 2 stars. Parking attendants didn't have it all together and the wine shop no longer sells bottle openers? What's that all about? Sorry, the 5 openers attached to one table don't cut it when you have 1000 people all trying to open bottles of wine you sold them...

From Deep in the Mists of Time: Yes with Styx

by JonnieRobbie on 8/1/11Chateau Ste Michelle Winery - Woodinville

A marvelous afternoon of sunshine and wine with Tommie Shaw and JY gave way to sunset with Yes, still the greatest virtuosos of progressive rock. Steve Howe looks nearly his age, but retains all his musical powers. Chris Squire's huge clacking bass made for a memorable "Heart of the Sunrise", and his vocals were greatly improved from his 2008 visit, when he didn't seem to hear very well. Poor David Benoit: Introduced to the most tepid of applause, the young man went on to sing like an angel, but the more he sounded like Jon Anderson, the more we missed Jon... Geoff Downes has rejoined as keyboardist, and though he lacks Wakeman's blistering chops, he is a formidable musician in his own right, and his voice was most welcome on the songs from his era, notably "Owner of a Lonely Heart". All in all, a delightful romp through the songs of another age, and my apologies to those around me; I really couldn't help singing along!
