About

YEASAYER IN CONCERT:

The members of psychedelic rock group Yeasayer have been defying the mainstream with their experimental synths, unique three-part harmonies, and melodic sound since making their debut in 2006 with All Hour Cymbals. The band's passion radiates through the crowd as they play fan favorites like "Ambling Alp" and "O.N.E." with a fervor that can't be matched. Their sonically innovative, hook-filled tracks are layered with detail, and they truly come alive for fans at the band’s intense live shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brooklyn-based act Yeasayer started performing together in 2006 and began earning serious attention a year later when they made their first festival appearance at SXSW. They made their full-length album debut in 2007 with All Hour Cymbals, which received rave reviews from publications like Pitchfork and Entertainment Weekly for its genre-bending sound and led to opening spots on tours with Beck and MGMT. The band continued their success with 2010's Odd Blood -- a record that peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart and included several songs that were featured on popular TV shows. Their 2012 album Fragrant World led to a number of sold-out headlining dates, high-profile festival appearances, and late night talk show performances, and they continued to earn hundreds of thousands of fans along the way. With their continually evolving sound and impressive showmanship, Yeasayer amazes concertgoers with their dance-worthy collection whenever they take the stage.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"This was my first time watching Yeasayer live and they didn't disappoint! They had a good mix of upbeat/chill songs and played the favorites. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but their mix of styles translates well in a live setting."

"Yeasayer sounded just as great live as they do on their records. The energy in the room was infectious, and I'd definitely see them again when they come through town."

"It was a great show, Yeasayer especially - great music always, but in concert they are truly spectacular. Beautiful stage set and light show, but it always felt like a complement to the music. the new drummer (standing up the entire set) is awesome too!"

Their song choices for the encore were a little disappointing, so the show ended on a lower note... but overall it was absolutely positively amazingly incredible! I was dancing the entire time!

Sound, as usual at Fox, was murky. Yeasayer was technically proficient but never really took off.

    fox theater and Yeasayer

    by Livingthelifex2 on 9/3/12Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I suspect sitting upstairs at the fox is usually a bad idea. The mix is completely drowned out by heavy bass. Went downstairs and was wishing that I had made the decision a little sooner. The new album does not hit the heights of their previous two. The music, the staging and the light show were all entertaining but not to same degree as just listening to their music. It all ends up being just a little distracting. I suspect that this is a band I will continue to enjoy their albums but will skip their shows.

Yeasayer was so amazing live!! Some of the songs were even better live. They all seem like great guys, and Chris made the show so much fun! Three days later I'm still on the concert high! I'd see them again any time!

Nice to hear new songs, but weird venue.

by plaidhats on 6/30/1220th Century Theater - Cincinnati

I feel like the venue acoustics were not suited at all for the band's musical sound. And what the heck was with the fire alarm going off?

    Yeasayer in Cincinnati

by BillLuxurious on 6/28/1220th Century Theater - Cincinnati

Big fan of their previous work as was thrilled to see them perform a lot of songs from the upcoming album. Great instrumentation and imagination; simply enchanting at some points. 20th Century is a great venue in Cincinnati and this was a great evening for music.

    Please play the hits.

by Anonymous on 6/22/12The National - Richmond

Yeasayer is one of my favorite bands, but I wish they had played more of their older material. THey played about 17 songs, and about 14 of them were not released on CD. Its cool to tour with your new album, but this was too much as the album is not even out yet.

My friends and I had no clue that this event was solely a charity event. It seemed that everyone who was there wasn't necessarily there for the music. We walked in and were stunned by the amount of people in 'costume', everybody in prom dresses and tux's. We had been expecting something completely different. It really is unfortunate, yet I am very happy that our money went to a good cause!

If you asked me how I'd like to spend eternity..

by FarrrOuttt on 7/13/11The Blue Note - Columbia

If I could spend an eternity at this show, well that would be quite alright. Hush Hush and The Smith Westerns are awesome bands to open for Yeasayer..But they definitely gave them no competition! The hour and a half they performed was better than the weekend I spent at Bonnaroo.
