About

Since the very beginning, Xavier Rudd's ability to connect with people has been his most powerful gift. The more he has toured the world, the more hearts he has touched and the more of the world he has put back into his music. Now, fronting a band aptly named The United Nations, Xavier Rudd has assembled a lineup of musicians from around the world as a one-people musical force. Making their debut in 2015, Xavier Rudd And The United Nations finds the iconic Australian solo artist in full band mode for the first time in a long and successful career, and introduces new album Nanna to Xavier's diverse and acclaimed discography...

Enthralling audiences with his ability to wield so many instruments at once, Xavier's 2002 debut album, To Let, introduced a sound that was a mix of guitars, yidakis (didgeridoos), stomp box and percussion, blues harp and vocals. Something distinctly new, yet tied back through time to the spirit of our ancestors. With a sound established, Xavier's 2004 sophomore album, Solace, was testament to the power of his songwriting abilities. Solace debuted in the top 20 of the ARIA charts and was met as an instant classic; going platinum and earning Xavier two ARIA nominations, with three of its songs  – Let Me Be, Shelter and Solace – voted into triple j's Hottest 100.

Only a year later, Xavier was receiving his third ARIA nomination, this time for third album Food In The Belly. Celebrated for Xavier's abilities to effortlessly weave genres together - from the reggae sway of The Mother, to the irresistible tribal jam of Manã - Food In The Belly impacted strongly in Australia and Europe, landing Xavier on the Dutch album charts for the first time. Xavier's gold-selling follow-up, White Moth, continued on this path of international success. Released in 2007 on Epitaph sister label ANTI-, White Moth reached #30 on the US Billboard charts and earned Xavier another ARIA nomination back home.

Nudging ahead of White Moth one spot to peak the ARIA charts at #5, 2008's Dark Shades Of Blue was Xavier's biggest musical departure, yet resulted in massive fan and critical acclaim. Gritty, dark and introspective, the album connected deeply with fans, and reintroduced Xavier as formidable lap steel player. 2010's Koonyum Sun - recorded as trio Xavier Rudd And Izintaba - was a return to lighter shades. Featuring a new sound courtesy of a collaboration with bassist Tio Moloantoa and percussionist Andile Nqubezelo - yet abundant in the blues'n'roots charm of his earliest work - Koonyum Sun brought Xavier Rudd full circle.

Debuting at #2 on the ARIA charts, Xavier's 2012 album Spirit Bird was the triumphant pinnacle of of his entire solo career – capturing the most beautiful aspects of his voice, his songs and his spirit. Led by the wonderfully delicate Follow The Sun, Spirit Bird saw Xavier Rudd yet again tour the world, bringing together old fans and new, regardless of their culture or country of origin. Now, this ability to connect is at the heart of Xavier Rudd And The United Nations – a band with a strong message of all people coming together around the globe to return to spirit, respect the ancient ways and protect the Earth and the very essence of creation.

Mixed by Errol Brown at Tuff Gong Studios, Nanna is Xavier's ninth studio album, but his first with Xavier Rudd And The United Nations... finding one of the great solo artists of our time fronting a full band with impeccable results. Once again diving into new musical waters while still holding true to the music in his heart, Xavier Rudd has added another remarkable milestone to his already epic journey, solidifying his place as one of Australia's greatest artists, activists and spirits.

This was the second time attending Xavier and again I was blown away! He gives the audience such amazing energy! He had some great guys playing with them and you could tell that they enjoy playing up there just as much as Xavier, and they were a wonderful addition to the dynamic of his set! I can honestly say that no matter where I'm at I'll scoop tickets for his show because it's that stellar every time!!! Thanks for the good times Xavier!!!!

He was phenomenal! Even better than I thought he would be. His voice is incredible and he is an amazing performer who is well complimented by his band! The opening band, "Good Old War", is a new favourite, and we have already purchased their music!

Opening band was unique, fun, and tight! They had everyone pumped up and we all looked them up when we got home to see who they were. Xavier was amazing as I expected. Opened with a classic and got right into the digiridoo which is all the crowd seemed to want to hear. His band was amazing, the energy between them was flowing and they were obviously enjoying themselves. Each musician was very talented in his own right, and got a chance to show it off. The crowd was a little disrespectful during some of the quieter songs to the point where he had to politely shush them with his hands...very embarrassing. Many were there just to party. But all around beautiful and amazing night.

  • Xavier Rudd blasts through the Sound Barrier

    by JonKane305 on 9/6/10Culture Room - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

Last time I saw Xavier Rudd was in the Highline Ballroom in NYC. His one man show rocked and had everyone dancing even if they didn't know how. Three years later, and Rudd's show has only gotten better with the addition of the sensational rythmic duo IZANTABA. The three musical geniuses united on stage will balst you into next week. The combination of wicked bass licks, percussion with a monstrous presence, and Rudd's skills on the Didgeridoo, ensures a good time. PLEASE GO TO THIS SHOW. The good energies that pass through you from the bass cabinet alone will send you on a good vibe ride clear through next week.

  • Xavier awesome; Culture Room bad

    by XavierFan1 on 9/6/10Culture Room - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

Xavier, as always, put on a great show. What an amazing musician. However the Culture Room is a smoke filled pit. I can't believe they still allow smoking. Xavier please pick another place to play when you come to south Florida. Pompano Amphitheater, Hard Rock, or my house.

  • Xavier Rudd is the man!

by LasOlasSurf on 9/6/10Culture Room - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

Such a great show! Xavier plays with a musical sense that is so rare these days. Just plain and simple....good music. The other two guys in the band are just as talented. Very moving show.

The best show I have seen in a while. The band interacted with the crowd, including pulling people up on stage, and brough tons of energy to the stage. I have seen Xavier Rudd a few times and its always different and always great.

  • Great Show!

by wyldemusic on 9/1/10Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Seen Xavier several times...alone, with a drummer and now with Izintaba. This was a great change of pace. Absolutely solid grooves, great harmonies...the three seemed very comfortable together and it showed thru the music and arrangements. See this show!!!

  • Loved it

by LAATL on 9/1/10Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Great energy from Xavier and the band. Had seen a couple of videos but his live show was even better.

  • Xavier and Inzitaba - it doesn't get any better!

    by RCTHEB48 on 9/1/10Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

As incredible as are Rudd's CDs, the live show was several levels higher. The music, the musicianship and the connection with the audience were phenominal. The playlist included generous helpings of his earlier material as well as that from his collaboration with Inzitaba, and the collaboration serves the earlier and the new very well. The level of energy in the room was infectious without being frantic. The close relationship Rudd has with Inzibata is clearly seen, and the joy and good humor shared by the group was more than obvious. I am looking for his next tour, and will gladly drive to another state to see him again.

  • Unexplainable

    by deano321 on 9/1/10Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The show was one of the greatest shows i have seen at a small venue ever. I had seen him perform 2 years ago in Nashville and that was a good show but this was great. Great energy in the crowd and on stage. During the encore a bunch of girls from the crowd hopped on stage and danced. You can tell that Xavier loves performing and that joy transfer to the crowd. Great show

It was a very entertaining show. Nice to hear all the different influences that went into the writing of this music. The guys from Izintaba are so multi-talented that I would pay to see them alone (not to take anything away from Xavier). If you get the opportunity to see this show, take it.

  • BEST SHOW EVER!

by GATOMS on 9/1/10Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Xavier never disappoints...best live shows I've ever been to. And I had never heard of the opener, Good Old War, but they were really good as well.

1 word, Didgeridoos... definitely worth checking out. I knew that going in, but was amazed how talented the bass player is. All very good musicians who put on a good show.
