    Wynton Marsalis

by MsSushi on 9/29/09Arlington Theatre - Santa Barbara

I drove from Rancho Cucamonga, 2-1/2 hrs to hear Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center orchestra. I was expecting a variety of jazz . All of the sets were MONK , after a while seemed to sound too much the same. Why not mix up with Ellington, Colrane, etc??

    Wynton's jazz was the best!

by Wyntonadmirer on 9/28/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

Wynton Marsalis is so personable, he makes you feel as if he is talking and playing only for you in your living room sitting around jaming, laughing and telling stories. The musicians are extraordinary in the Lincoln Center Orchestra. My husband and myself loved the entire concert, especially the end, when the entire audience would not sit down and stop clapping until Wynton and his orchestra came back on the stage and played one more time. Unbelievable!!

Great set! Don't need to say much, you're always going to get an amazing performance with Wynton and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Wynton and the boys were great!

by Nightfly3000 on 9/27/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

An amazing night of talented men playing the music they love. That came through loud and clear tonight as all 15 musicians displayed their passion and expertise on every instrument. Wynton is a gracious host, telling relevant stories and involving the audience in the joy he feels for playing jazz. If he's headed to your town, you will love it.

It was Wynton Marsalis that I went to see, but every musician in the group was beyond belief.

    Thrilling!!

by PrincesaCM on 9/27/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

I've never heard such greatness in music. I left with the thought... WOW! Can't believe what I just heard. Each musician showed their personal character in their music sound. Wynton was amazing. I would have liked to have heard more solos from Wynton. I hope that the Thousand Oaks Civic will bring him back; and have more jazz artists perform at the Civic. Nothing can be as clean sounding, though, as the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. Very gifted musicians!! Thanks so much for this event.

    Jazzz and more

by katzzz on 9/27/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

I am so glad that I was able to share this performance with my 80 year old mother. She loves the horns from the big-band days and had never had the live jazz experience. I couldn't keep her quiet! Wynton's charm and easy way with the group of players he has on tour with him was a delight. Their extemporaneous bits were a thrill and joy!

Wynton Marsalis and his jazz band were incredible!

by Poipu on 9/27/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

Such talented musicians! My husband and I bought great seats for our anniversary and we loved every minute. Wynton Marsalis has a nice sense of humor and tells some short, interesting stories. It is obvious the musicians love to play and perform for the audience. I highly recommend this concert of very professional artists! I loved that they were all wearing suits and ties.

    What a Phenomenal Group!

by Sunnylou on 9/27/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

Fifteen consummate musicians led by the incomparable Wynton Marsalis . . . what more could a jazz aficionado ask? As Marsalis said, they were playing for us, the audience; if they wanted to play for themselves, they could have stayed at home. And the whole show was indeed a crowd pleaser, characterized by fine solos and brilliant ensemble work. The modest, humorous, and althogether winsome Marsalis sat in his back-row trumpet section, generously sharing the glory with the entire group.

    Pure talent

by JazzJudy on 9/27/09Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

Incredible assembly of the BEST jazz players in the world. Featured were the extraordinarily noteworthy arrangements by Ted Nash and each of the talented featured players wowed the audience. The concert ran the gamut of styles -- from the playful Teensy Weensy Spider and Old MacDonald's Farm to the impressive salutes to jazz greats of old, this was FIRST CLASS. The only disappointment was that it had to end.
