Wu-Tang Clan on Tour
Considered by many to be the greatest hip-hop group of all time, Wu-Tang Clan have been touring as a unit since their debut record — Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) — came out in 1993. The now triple-platinum release vaulted the New York City group with songs like "C.R.E.A.M." (Cash Rules Everything Around Me) and "Protect Ya Neck" that are about as recognizable as anything in the rap canon.
Their live sets are a family affair, with every member of the crew representing their lyrical contributions to the Wu's eight studio albums, as well as notable cuts from the Wu-Tang solo discography. With the omnipresent Wu-Tang "W" flanking all angles of the stage, there's a familiarity to Wu-Tang Clan's music that gives their shows unique mass appeal.
Whether they're delivering the 36 Chambers record front to back on the album's 25th Anniversary Tour, or tracks from GZA's seminal Liquid Swords and Raekwon's mafioso-minded Only Built 4 Cuban Linx..., or honoring the legacy of their departed brother, Ol' Dirty Bastard, every Wu-Tang Clan show is a celebration of prolific careers as individuals and especially as the most storied group in hip-hop history.
Wu-Tang Clan Background
Founded in New York City's Staten Island in the early 1990s, the Wu-Tang Clan is comprised of members RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, U-God, Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck, Cappadonna, and the deceased Ol' Dirty Bastard (ODB). Their name is a reference to a 1983 martial arts film.
Led by the production of RZA, samples from martial arts films have thematically appeared throughout the group's music, as have samples of classic funk and soul tracks from artists like Rick James, James Brown, and Syl Johnson. As a group, Wu-Tang Clan have three platinum albums among their eight LPs, and the group's complete anthology (including solo albums) has more than 85 full-length releases. More than just rappers, Wu-Tang Clan are entrepreneurs and successful cultural influencers, with an empire that features everything from clothing lines and video games to books and acting credits.
the 4 hour wait was ridiculous and the opening performances sucked. but when wu tang finally performed, the show was amazing(:
I don't care if you are the greatest rap group in history. Don't take five hours to come on stage. They should have paid ME for wasting my time, RZA might not have to work on Monday, but I do!
Saw the Clan at Club Nokia in LA. Reefer smoke filled the air as the Wu took the stage. It was the illest hip-hop show I've been to. RZA was in China, but besides that, everyone held it down. Young Dirty Bastard filled his daddy's shoes quite nicely. Ghostface and Meth stole the show though, with their tight deliveries and smooth flows. Cappy even showed up, jizzin' like a giant!
Wu Tang put on a show. Even though the the Rza wasn't there the rest of the clan put it down. Wu Tang Forever! Worth every penny.
It took a while for Wu Tang to go on stage, but the wait was well worth it. They put on one hell of a show. They had everyone going crazy from the first song to the last song. I would go see thm again.
The concert was dope. Wu-Tang did they thang. My ears are still ringin.
This was my first time seeing the Wu & I was extremely excited. I went with a guy who is a veteran Wu fan & HE was excited, which rubbed off on me. Wu Tang didn't take the stage til 12:30 a.m. (1:30 my time cuz I live in Arizona). A lot of the crowd were annoyed (as was I) at how long they took, and they booed some of the warm-up acts. It was pandemonium when they finally came on and I'm sure the die hards loved 'em. I enjoyed it, but I was worn out. My companion loved it. Still, I'm glad I got to experience their show & if I had the opportunity I would see them again, in the hopes that the 2nd experience would be better.
disappointed RZA didn't make it. he was supposed to. the show needed him. it was just alright...
As always wu tang was great but sitting around for 3 1/2hrs listening to wick ass openers was not
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! We arrived at 7:00pm and WAITED through 3 Terrible opening acts who I felt were unworthy of showing Wu-tang an example of Great San Diego Rap Music, and Had to Leave at 11:30pm,HUNGRY,THIRSTY AND NEVER EVEN GOT TO SEE Wu-Tang AT ALL,DUE TO THE FACT WE COULD NOT LEAVE AND RETURN! I DEFINATELY FEEL I WASTED MY MONEY!
Wu Tang was awesome when they finally got on stage but after waiting 4.75 hrs until they actually got up there, that made the concert not worth it for me. Having so many openers was rediculous!
Been a fan of wutang going on 15 years now, this show was unbelievable, even my girl who dosnt like rap was blown away. !!!
They opened the doors at 8. Wu Tang didn't come on until 12:30 and played for a little over an hour. There was like 8 opening acts and 3 DJs. Most of them sucked and couldn't get past the boos and chants of Wu Tang. Wu Tang put on a good little show, but the wait was far too long.
best performers of any category of all time!!!!!!!
