2012 World Choir Games Closing Ceremony

by Anonymous on 7/17/12U.S. Bank Arena - Cincinnati

I understand that the Games wanted a large venue, but this basketball arena was a horrible place to hold this event. The sound quality was worse than horrible. There was so much echo in the building that speakers were barely understandable. Sound for the musical sections was only marginally better. The first portion of the program should have been much shorter. The speech from the Mayor of Cincinnati was typical political rubbish that did not even belong in this event. The pomp and circumstance was OK, but too long. It would have been nice to have a portion of the event dedicated to singing by all of the participating choirs - together on one or two numbers that they all learned. Instead, we heard from just a few. Music from the Cincinnati Pops was good, but the venue ruined it. I could have done without the opera solos.

    Historic, Exciting and Corrected:HOT+soft

by Anonymous on 7/16/12U.S. Bank Arena - Cincinnati

An historic performance that was extremely exciting. Opening ceremonies were marred by very HOT inside temperatures and very soft sound quality; these conditions were corrected!

An example of how all the world's people should interact - with humility, patience, an open mind, and a smile.

    Very impressive and awe inspiring

by GypsykaPs on 7/16/12U.S. Bank Arena - Cincinnati

Almost perfect conclusion to an exciting and world-class musical event. Congratulations to the city planners and the participants. The city looks clean and wonderful the local citizenry was very cordial and welcoming. Most venues were fantastic. I was slightly disappointed by the closing ceremonies because of the poor acoustics and difficulty of seating. Saw several people fall on their way to the receipts hopefully no one was seriously injured. The cops and the chorus sounded very good though. Soloist not so much probably due to the acoustics. Was also disappointed that Handle's Messiah and Battle hymn of the Republic offered as updated versions. I was hoping the program would end Iwith ode to Joy or H's Messiah, as I can only imagine how magnificent those would've sounded with all those wonderful and classically trained singers - from the 4 corners of the earth lending their voices. Perhaps it would have been too overwhelming when you consider how fantastic they even did with O happy day. Great job overall.

Pops, May Festival, Menzel and Marvin! Marvelous!

by beckcomm on 7/16/12U.S. Bank Arena - Cincinnati

I don't know what was the most fantastic: the parade of nations, superstars Idina Menzel and Marvin Winans, or hometown favorites Cincinnati Pops and May Festival Chorus! It was a night to remember.

The closing ceremony was fantastic, creative, upbeat and loaded with talent. It was the best way to end the two weeks of competitions and celebrations.

Closing Ceremony - the acoustics did not do justice to the performers, pops symphony, and the May Festival Chorus. The Boys Choir bringing in the flags was a great idea.

    World Choir Games Closing Ceremony

by JimandClara on 7/16/12U.S. Bank Arena - Cincinnati

The Closing Ceremony was great -- much better than the Opening Ceremony. Since this was a unique event, it's hard to recommend to others unless they're willing to travel to Latvia for the 2014 World Choir Games. However, I would encourage everyone to take advantage of once-in-a-lifetime opportunities such as the World Choir Games when they take place locally. Hopefully, there will be more like it!

    Fantastic Closing Ceremony

by Anonymous on 7/16/12U.S. Bank Arena - Cincinnati

A little slow at the start but a fantastic finish. The parade of flags was impressive and the boys choir did a good job carrying the flags and signs. The Cincinnati Pops was above what I remember in other concerts and the May Festival Chorus with the Games Choirs was a beautiful sound. The Attending "stars" were great, the final "We Are the World" with the whole arena singing was just amazing.
