We went to the Saturday show and it was memorable. Will Downing was is and will be my favorite vocalist next to Luther. Marion Meadows was fantastic. Maysa was unbelievable.

    Thunder roared with SMV!!

by sp8s on 7/14/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

This was my 5th year... and it just keeps getting better. It had a perfect blend of old school and new school, jazz & R&B. The only thing I regret is not being able to be at both stages at the same time. It was difficult to choose which artist to see next. Will Downing, Phil Perry, Gary Taylor, Pieces of a Dream, Jeff Lorber, Roy Ayers, George Duke... the list goes on and on and they all rocked!

    Norman and Maysa were wonderful

by SandraD on 7/14/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

My best friend and i went for the second time and really enjoyed the food and family atmosphere. My husband was introduced to Norman Brown and we cant wait to see him again. Maysa has been a favorite ever since we lived in Germany. To hear her powerful voice live was unforgettable. Lines for willcall were uncharacteristically long but weather was nice.

    Capital Jazz Fest

by chyrissy on 7/14/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

The capital jazz fest has always been an amazing experience for me. The only concern for me is when they added R&B. It has increased the amount of people that is now attending this event. At one time when we were late, you could always find a spot on the lawn. This year, it was very difficult to the point that i could not stay the entire time but it was still a pleasure hearing the sounds of the jazz artist.

    Good Show

by raiderguy on 7/14/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

I thought the show was good over all. There were a few acts that were very disappointing. Layla Hathaway just didn't show up (her backup singers drew bigger applauds than she did). Al Jarrod (sp) was just too old to sing, let alone perform. There wasn't a big standout act like last year (Brian Culbertson just blew me away and can't wait to see him again). I like going to Merriweather and the weather was very good. i was most impressed with Pieces of a Dream.

Will Downing and GeorgeThe Man Duke were amazing

by BabyGirlJoppaMD on 7/14/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

The Jazz Festival was amazing. I had a wonderful time. The performers out do themselves year after year. I’m not even going to talk about George Duke. Oh- he brought the house down. Raheem DeVaughn is my new love. I’ve seen him perform a couple of times this year. He sings with such conviction. I introduced a dear friend to the “Capital Jazz Fes Experience.” What a wonderful day.

    Saturday's lineup was unforgettable

by msdreama on 7/14/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

The lineup was awesome for Saturday's event, from the Jazz section to the R & B section. I have been attending the Capital Jazz Festival for the last four years, and each year I enjoy it more and more. Even through the grounds were muddy it did not damper the festival. The crowd stood in mud as well sat in the chairs in mud to watch all events on the R & B side with no problem. I enjoy every artist that performed that day, there was no one I liked better than the other. I look forward to this event every year. Keep up the good work and keep those artist coming. See you next year.

2009 Capital Jazzfest - Simple Awesome

by DInGeorgia on 7/14/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

What an amazing venue and line up of the industry's best musicians! From the first cool note delivered by Joey Sommerville to last earth shattering tickling of the keys by George Duke, I was simply blown away. This was my third visit and I intend to come back every year that I am bless to do so.
