WEEN IN CONCERT:

From joke-rock heroes to experimental weirdos, Ween left no stone unturned in their 25 years of tongue-in-cheek sonic exploration before parting ways in 2012. The band’s cult following dreamed of a reunion, and in late 2015 their wish was granted when Gene and Dean Ween teamed up once again to bring their weird and wild sounds back to stages everywhere. Since the band's return, audiences have eaten up their impressive musicianship, off-the-wall humor, and eclectic catalog of fan favorites like “L.M.L.Y.P.”, “Bumblebee”, and “Push th’ Little Daises”.  Whether they’re putting their idiosyncratic twist on classic rock bravado, honky tonk country, or Prince’s “Minneapolis sound”, the two always manage to turn their diverse influences into something that can only be described as Ween—and that’s exactly what ticket buyers want.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Ween began as a series of tape machine experiments made by New Hope, PA natives Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiondo—otherwise known as Gene and Dean Ween. Starting in 1984 the duo began performing along to pre-recorded backing tracks, which they eventually converted into a series of late ‘80s cassette releases. After developing a cult following with performances at venues like Trenton, NJ’s famed City Gardens, the group attracted the attention of Twin/Tone Records, which commissioned the group’s 1990 debut GodWeenSatan: The Oneness. Ween jumped to major label Elektra for 1993’s Pure Guava and began to tour tirelessly, ultimately becoming one of the biggest cult bands to emerge in the ‘90s. Despite their success, Freeman walked away from the group in 2012 to deal with his drug and alcohol abuse. Ween thrilled fans in 2015 when they announced that a refocused and refreshed Freeman would be joining them for several live performances. While the reunion has fans excited to hear old favorites, devoted listeners are just as eager to see if Ween returns to the studio to release their first album in nearly a decade.

Where else can so many deviants get so trashed in public and not get a citation! And that's just the band! Loved those weird people everywhere. Well, most of them.

Ever seen Ween? It was kinda like that.

These guys just continue to rock your face off. Deaner was unbelievable on Beacon Light, Awesome Sound and ReggeaJunkieJew. Show might have been a little shorter than years past and it would have been nice to see a better finale, but I really can't complain. Great show.

    Paintin the Beach Brown

    by Retarded247 on 7/20/09Bottle & Cork - Dewey Beach

I've lost count as to how many times I've seen Ween and this one lived up to them all. It was very nice to see them in a smaller venue again. It was reminiscent of seeing them at the Trocadero a decade ago but imagine only one floor with an exposed roof to your left. Seemed as if they played for three hours or more only stopping occasionally to answer mother natures calls. It was a pretty brown show with plenty of the hits along the way to keep even the freshest of fans satisfied. An eight minute version of Voodoo Lady was shorter than past shows I've seen and the seemingly extended version of Push the Little Daisies was a bit unnecessary. All of the Mollusk songs were great especially The Golden Eel. It was the most spirited version I've heard and seen thanks to Gener doing his theatrical blank staring best to set the tone for another rocking Ween show.

    Excellent Performance

by LustLoad on 7/20/09Bottle & Cork - Dewey Beach

Great show in an intimate venue. 'Wish they'd played Transdermal Celebration. People, some of us old timers and pregnant women in the audience can't stand for a 3 hour show without chairs. That and the disgusting large puddle of beer and funk splashing around us sucked.

    Best Band Ever

by Stroker on 7/18/09Bottle & Cork - Dewey Beach

Ween was amazing last night. My head hurts, legs ache, and i still can't hear right. They are the most under-rated and unappreciated band ever. Before you die you should see these guys at least three times. Also, Claude Coleman is out of this world on drums. Spaghett!

    insane

by dirodio on 7/18/09Bottle & Cork - Dewey Beach

It's very rare that a band that can sell out much larger venues and has such a cult following would even play at a smaller place such as the bottle and cork...usually you have to catch those shows when a band is first starting out...luckily ween knows that bar venues are intimate and rowdy and they aren't afraid to downgrade their paycheck with less people in the venue...i'm sure some of it's about money...but after seeing that show i'm sure most of it is about having a damn good time shredding some serious tunes....could possibly be one of the best ween shows i have seen
