Washington Mystics History

The Washington Mystics are a professional women's basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Since their introduction in 1998 as one of the WNBA’s first expansion franchises, the Mystics have topped the Eastern Conference twice and won the WNBA Finals in 2019. The team was led in their early seasons by multi- season rebounding champion Chamique Holdsclaw and four-time All-Star Alana Beard. They reached their first Finals in 2018 behind the play of two-time WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne. Washington returned to the Finals in 2019, winning a thrilling 3-2 series against the Connecticut Sun and delivering D.C. its first professional basketball title since 1978. Delle Donne won her second career MVP in 2019 while shooting the WNBA’s only 50-40-90 season, and teammate Natasha Cloud was named the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.

    I loved the game!

by Dyme on 7/12/09Verizon Center - Washington

I had a lot of fun! I LOVE THE WNBA!!!!! Washington played a good game and held off the Sparks. I'm upset I missed Lisa Leslie though for her last season, but thank you Lisa for all you have done for Women's sports.

    Mystics vs LA Sparks

    by Chocolatefox1 on 7/12/09Verizon Center - Washington

From the beginning to the end the game was very exciting. the entertainment during half and in between times was funny and entertaining. The Mystics came out ready to win. They scored first and went from there. The LA Sparks did provide some tension. At one point the game was tied up but the Sparks never got in front. This was my first Mystics game and I was very impressed. I would do it again and again.

    Close Call...

    by Tee1 on 7/12/09Verizon Center - Washington

This was my 2nd WNBA game ever in person. I just knew the Mystics had it in the bag during the 1st half. Los Angeles came to represent BUT a little too late!!! Don't sleep on the Mystics, they are here to stay!!!

    good game

by quietguy on 7/12/09Verizon Center - Washington

We went for coleman, parker & maybe a glimpse of leslie. 2 outta 3's not bad. LA's gradual comback made it interesting. Great seats! We will be back when Taurasi comes to town!

    WNBA experience

by ciscojoe on 7/12/09Verizon Center - Washington

Attended the Mystics/Sparks game on July 11th. My daughter is 4 years-old and had a great time. We had great seats behind the rim (floor level), and fairly inexpensive ($70/ea). If you are a fan of sports, and the live-entertainment feel, this is an inexpensive and great way to get out of the house and have a good time! p.s. went to the Mystics/Mercury game on June 25th (1st WNBA game I've ever attended), and had the same great experience. The only reason I didn't give it 5-Stars is the game goes by REALLY quick with only 10-minute quarters.

    Mystics win over Sparks

by Gracenak on 7/12/09Verizon Center - Washington

Overall the game was pretty good. Even when the Sparks made a run by overcoming a 20 point deficit and at one point tied it at 63, the Mystics had an answer for it. In the end, the Mystic scored the last 12 points in which I was very impress with their win..

    Mystics rock

    by DannyH1 on 7/12/09Verizon Center - Washington

We took the entire family and had a blast. They had face painting and sign making. Music from the school of rock. And the young dancers were on point.

Watching the Washington Mystics at the Verizon Center is a great show for the whole family. Great entertainment both inside the stadium and in the general area. Great half time show.
