    Wton Horse Show's flaws

by Famke on 11/1/10Verizon Center - Washington

While it was a surprise to see the end of the delayed youth competition (with that flamboyant 13 year old rider winning the competition with someone else's great horse) the first two events of the evening were far too long and far too slow. The feisty Jack Russels are always a delight and were a welcome break from the pre-event boredom, but we have seen that for many years now. The next time we will just show up for the real President's club....

As an avid horse fan, I was anxiously anticipating this show (my first) and my husband went mostly to appease me. Results were the show was beyond my anticipation and he joined in my enthusiasm! The beauty, strength and ability of the horses shown in the Cup competitioin was an amazing sight. The excellent training and riders are so to be commended. The Exhibitions also were thoroughly enjoyed. They each prompted an appreciation of fine horses and drivers; the terriers were delightful.

    Incredible Evening

by DeborahKatharine on 11/1/10Verizon Center - Washington

Incredible riders and horses were very prominent throughout the evenings show. There were also very interesting performances by the Caisson Platoon, Terrier Races and Chester Weber's four handed driving. I brought a guest who had never ridden a horse before and new very little about them. She was very pleased she had had the opportunity to see such skilled riders with so much dedication. I brought my movie camera to capture some of the performances so I can review some of the moments. We only had one negative experience and that was we sat next to a couple of people who obviously had no horse show etiquette. This was the first time I had ever encountered such a discourteous display of one's loud opinion during a riders performance. People should be respectful of the horse and rider during their jumps so as not to distract either of them or fellow audience members. This behavior is not the norm at a horse show. Thank you.

    The best show eva!

    by horselover3597 on 11/1/10Verizon Center - Washington

I loved the Washington internationl horse show! I'm a huge horselover and have been riding for about 5 years. However my parents don't know that much horse stuff but they still enjoyed the show. My favorite part was that in the beginning they did the showjumping and i also enjoyed seeing the cart driving, since you don't see stuff like that every day. I also enjoyed the terrier races! The dogs are soooo cute and sooo funny!

The show seems to get shorter every year. The puissance was very disappointing this year, only two rounds. I felt that the disqualification of the rider to do a clear second round was rather harsh, especially as the the exclusion of the second practice fence was a last minute announcement. and could easily have been missed. It cut short the performance tremendously and left the audience with a feeling of "what--this is it???? Most people did not even stay for the award ceremony. THUMBS DOWN

    Great show for everyone

by Brento on 11/1/10Verizon Center - Washington

This was my first horse show, and it was very enjoyable and educational. Both the human and horse athletes are amazing, and the skill and finesse they bring to bear is wonderful to see. Also loved the caisson and team demonstrations, as well as the terrier races, which were a lighthearted counterpoint to the more serious competitions, particularly because the jumping kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the time.

    Great Horse Show

    by Horsecrazy555 on 11/1/10Verizon Center - Washington

I really enjoyed the horse show, and would recommend it for all. We went to see the President's Cup, which was extremely fun to watch. The reason I'm only giving it 4-stars, is because the food at the Verizon Center was not good, extremely over priced, and the customer service was horrible.

    WIHS an annual MUST!!!

by TerrierRacer on 11/1/10Verizon Center - Washington

Each year I plan my schedule around this event and the WIHS never disappoints. This year I took a friend who was not familiar with horse shows and she came away a new fan. The thrill and beauty of a horse in motion captures the mind and heart of the world. The special emphasis, acknowledgement, and inclusion of our military throughout the course of the event is both admirable and deeply appreciated. Highlighting the unique aspect of the Caisson Platoon as both a burial unit and partner in a therapeutic rehabilitation program moved me to tears. The soldiers and their mounts are truly quiet heroes and Bravo to WIHS for giving them a forum to share their story.

The ponies were so cute and the kids rode really well. The equitation course was great and they did a great job trying to put in a clean round.

    A poor evening

    by Serendipity20854 on 11/1/10Verizon Center - Washington

I have been going to the International Horse Show for the last twenty years, and I have to say that I really enjoyed it more when it was in Maryland at USAIR Arena, or whatever it was called. The spirit changed when it moved to DC. That was the only evening I could attend. The dressage demonstration was amazing, and I love the terriers race. The puissance show itself was ridiculous: 5 riders. After the first round, the host announced that the riders had to jump only two obstackes: the wall of course and another one but they could practice on another one. He apparently came back on that but I did not hear it. 3 did not pass the second round, and the 4th one did a beautiful job, but did the practice - apparently I was not the only one to hear it! - and was disqualified. The only one remaining was from Venezuela, and refused to do another round alone with a higher wall. I never expected to leave at 9:25 pm the show!

    WIHS 2010

by trailridinmom on 11/1/10Verizon Center - Washington

Overall the show was great. I was disappointed that we had to pay an addition $15 to get in before the 7:00 show. And, very few vendors. A highlite of the day has always been shopping.

Washington International Horse Show is a must-see

by Anonymous on 11/1/10Verizon Center - Washington

To have the opportunity to see some of country's -- if not the world's -- best riders is something that should not be missed. There needs to be a way to better advertise this event. Few people knew of it, but expressed to me they would have loved to see it. Hopefully next year more will be done to get the word out. Advertise earlier!

Washington International Horse Show is astounding

by KelleMack on 11/1/10Verizon Center - Washington

The Washington International Horse Show, Puissance Event, is breathtaking. The horses are incredibly beautiful and the grace displayed as they move throughout the arena is spectacular. Our hearts were racing as we sat anxiously watching each horse approach and gracefully move through the jumps. The terrier races were exciting and created such a belly laugh that tears would come to your eyes with laughter. They are so small and race like bullets (Washington Bullets) to their destination. Their personalties shine as they little fellows (and girls) eagerly chase the fox tail. An amazing evening!

The overall night was very enjoyable. I have gone to this event before and had a better time but I think the contestants this time around were not as up to par as before. The Puissance itself did not last longer then 2 rounds and only reached 6'1" as the height for the great wall. But the rest of the evening was definately worth the 2 hour drive into DC from PA. I would recommend the Metro however because Traffic was horrendous and paying 25$ for parking was not ideal. I would suggest coming into the city early and getting a meal at any of the fabulous restaurants and perhaps some cupcakes from Red Velvet before hand.

Horse show is a must to stay in DC!!

by LoveMyHorse on 11/1/10Verizon Center - Washington

What a great experience to have in the nations capital. Seven days of all horses in the middle of the city. The biggest issue this year was that the Verizon Center would not let the public in early enough to spend time with the vendors.
