First time for a Freedom game and first time visit to the Maryland Soccerplex. Good team, good game, good venue -- once you get there! The trip from the Mount Vernon area of Northern Virginia to Boyds is quite a trek. Nevertheless, we enjoyed ourselves; and my 12-year old step-daughter picked up some goal keeping hints. It's great having professional women's soccer back in the DC area. We'll do some more games this season...
Tentatively purchased 3 home games at the beginning of the season, and have added on 3 more. I am blown away by these high-quality soccer games, the talent and energy of the players, the up-close view of the whole thing from anywhere I'm sitting. The match against FC Gold Pride was action-packed, and unrelenting. I find the whole team so inspirational when they play, and the atmosphere is electric!
There did not seem to be a bad seat in the house, and the action on the field was excellent. The availability of the World Cup trophy was an added bonus. What a wonderful way to end the 4th of July weekend!
Marta's goal was on time. This game was one of the best games the Freedom has played. They held it together very strong and great possession on both teams!
The woman's soccer professional match between the Washington Freedom and Los Angeles Sol at the Maryland Soccerplex in the Germantown, Maryland area was a very nice event. The arena, which holds over 5,000 people, was a nice arena. Seating was comfortable, and the arena was in a very pastoral setting, There were things for children to do just outside the stadium before the game, soccer related, which helped to create a festive atmosphere. The audience was well behaved and enthusiastic, but there was no loud noise and distraction. It was easy to come to and leave the arena by a short walk and pretty unimpeded driving. It was not hard to drive to the stadium in terms of finding it. No umbrellas were allowed in the stadium, which surprised my group and other people. The soccer was high quality. The officiating was good. The Los Angeles Sol was a very exciting team and the Washington Freedom played well but probably could use some more great athletes to have a really exciting game to watch. The referees probably allowed too much contact and I thought Los Angeles played too roughly. A Los Angeles player did recieve a fracture of the leg. It was $36.00 to have very good seats, and I am sympathetic to that to be able to put a high quality team on the field in a nice setting.
While my expectations were not high, I was still blown away by the skill and agility of the women and the pace of the game. Unfortunately DC lost 0 - 1 to the Sol, the game was exciting and even though Brazilian based fan group was cheering for LA, they still entertained the rest of the crowd.
A great game of soccer. If you haven't heard of the women's pro league (WPS) you should check it out. The games are played at the Soccerplex in Germantown. No bad seats. The Freedom and the Sol are the two best teams in the league. (Sol is the best). They went at it fiercely for 90 plus minutes.
Eventhough Freedom lost and only in the 89th minute almost, I had an amazing time. Fireworks were displayed after the game too! My niece and I got 5 autographs between us (her 4 to my 1) - LOL! But I got the pic with Scurry! We can't wait for the next game.
