The Walnut street theater is a beautiful place to see a play. My wife and I saw Mary Poppins. The play exceeded our expectations. We thoroughly enjoyed our night and would recommend our friends to go see this play.

Low energy. Awful visibility of stage from all but a few seats in the house.

Mary Poppins was amazing. The sets were great. The costumes were beautiful. The voices were fantastic. It was a thrill to see Mary fly, and Bert too. The choreography was great. It was a terrific family show (we had three generations there).

Great talent , bright cheerful uplifting play Though at times the main children's lines were difficult to understand and my view in a box seat was slight obstructed since Mary flies and they go on the rooftop for a short period of time yet overall excellent cast singing and acting

    Not Mary Poppins

by Grandmomto4girls on 1/3/15Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

Great anticipation with our older granddaughters (6 & 5 yrs old.), who knew the film and music. But at the break, the oldest one wanted to leave 'cause " it isn't the story". The second half prove to be more exciting! I believe the advertisement should have stated that this was a version of the original movie. Seeing the broadway show a few years ago in NY, I raved about the dancing, the "swing", and the giant umbrella at the end of the show-- I shouldn't compare, but that was the reason I bought 7 tickets. I learned a very valuable lesson that all broadway shows can not be performed in Philadelphia. On a positive note - "Bert" was excellent as well as the dancing!

    Appropriate for all ages...

by Sixersfan94 on 1/3/15Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

I bought the tickets for my parents as a Christmas gift, unfortunately my mom got sick the night of the show so my dad and I ended up going. The show was fantastic, capturing the excitement of a timeless classic, while telling the tale of Mary Poppins in a way relevant to children. Highly recommended for any age group (I'm 20 and my dads 59) . It was exciting to see the childrens face light up when Mary Poppins and gang strike up the band to the classic soundtrack.

    Afternoon Delight

by jps9 on 1/3/15Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

This performance was a Christmas gift to my daughter and three grandchildren. We were not disappointed. The cast, the music, the scenery, the special effects were wonderful. Initially thought Mary Poppins might be too juvenile for the group, but we loved it. It is an old favorite brought to life. The children in the play were sometimes hard to understand as they tried to speak with the accent. Temp of theatre too cold.

    Mary Poppins...SUPERB!!!

by BESTGG on 1/2/15Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

We had front row seats for the matinee. My granddaughter was thrilled and was dressed in a Mary Poppins hat....that I made, of course. The staff at the theater were so cordial and welcoming.....and the show was as amazing as I remembered watching the movie over 25 years ago. We were welcomed backstage after the show to actually meet Mary. My granddaughter thought it was the best!

    Mary Poppins

by NYC17 on 1/2/15Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

This performance was a step above just about every other production I have seen at the Walnut Street Theater. The acting, singing, dancing, and props were all outstanding!

    Good but somehow disappointing, too

by Hampsteader on 1/2/15Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

I can't fault the quality of the singing and dancing (although the children that performed that night were almost unintelligible in speech and song). The costumes, scenery and props were very good. Yet it lacked that "wow factor" for me compared to some other shows I have seen - in particular the staging of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" which I saw in London a few years ago. (I'm terms if theme that was the most comparable show I could think of). I think the problem lies mostly in the version of the show itself - there was very little plot and almost no acting in between songs. Yes I know it's Mary Poppins, a children's story, but it still felt weak. I was extremely annoyed that they changed the lyrics to almost every song, as well. Finally the Walnut stage is small compare to New York and London venues and that made it seem less spectacular to me, as well. It just didn't seem worth $100+ per ticket.
