Wage War in Concert
Wage War are the kind of hard rock band that isn't easily categorized. That starts with their influences: Although the band's chugging riffs and jackhammering drums take cues from modern music's heaviest names (including Slipknot, August Burns Red, and As I Lay Dying), the group are also known for pairing contrasting inspirations. Their brutal grooves often fuse hip-hop and metal in the way Korn is known for doing, and frontman Briton Bond's gruff, gravelly voice alternates with the more pristine melodic approach of guitarist/vocalist Cody Quistad.
Bond, Quistad, and guitarist/vocalist Seth Blake originally formed Wage War in Ocala, Florida, in 2010 under the moniker Empires. The trio, which was then working with a different rhythm section, even released an EP in 2011, The Fall of Kings.
After some lineup shuffling, the band changed their name in 2013 and, two years later, signed a deal with Fearless Records. Wage War's 2015 full-length debut for the label, Blueprints, and the 2017 album Deadweight were both co-produced by Andrew Wade and A Day to Remember's Jeremy McKinnon.
Deadweight especially illustrates their progression as a band, as it boasts more confident, emotional songwriting and variety in dynamics. In fact, Wage War continue that soul-searching on the 2019 single "Low" — a bruising song about feeling worn down by life — and via the 2018 singles "Johnny Cash (Stripped)" and "Gravity (Stripped)." The latter two are pared-down versions of songs that originally appeared on Deadweight, and they boast chiming guitars, restrained percussion, and delicate vocals.
Live, Wage War stir up ferocious mosh pits courtesy of Bond's commanding stage presence — he directs his low growls directly at the crowd to emphasize vocal power — and aggressive, thrashing playing.
Given this energy, the band are unsurprisingly road warriors who have done several stints on the Vans Warped Tour and opened for Of Mice & Men, August Burns Red, and A Day to Remember. Wage War are now ranked among the genre's biggest heavyweights, with spots in the lineup of the Sonic Temple Art + Music Festival and Welcome to Rockville 2019.
This concert was awesome! Band is highly recommended to see.
Loved it! St. Andrews was the perfect place to have this concert. It was nice to meet Rory after Dayseeker’s set!
LIFE CHANGING CONCERT. IT WAS AMAZING. THANK U WAGE WAR!!
Venue was great, bands were great. Sound was great. 5 stars!
Great Venue, I went without expectations and I had a blast. Fantastic experience
it was the best show i’ve ever been to. absolutely love the performances
It was my 1st time seeing them in concert and I seriously couldn't be any more happier was so stocked, amazing show I wish I could have that night again, I seriously WOULD DEFINITELY see them again.
Great set list. Openers had crowd going and the equipment crew was playing Smash Mouth in between sets. What more could you ask for? Polaris and Wage War were great!
Hurt my hand because a crowd surfer fell on it, but security took great care of me! They gave me an icepack, water, let me sit outside with them to get some air, and we ended up having a great conversation too. The manager and the security guard Thomas Sledge decided to take my boyfriend and I back stage and let us watch the rest of the show from the side of the stage. It was amazing! I’ve never had a better experience at a venue in my life and I’ve been to a lot of shows. I can’t thank the staff enough for being so kind and caring, they really went above and beyond to make sure that I was ok and having a great time. And as for the bands; they totally killed it and I got to hang out with Dayseeker again. Everyone there was just so genuinely nice and social. Just a wonderful night through and through. Without a doubt I’ll be back to see more shows here :D
Every act delivered a terrific experience for me and my kids plus access to the bands for autographs and pictures.
House of blues usually has a great sound mix, but this show you couldn’t hear any vocals. And if you could hear them, there was just way too much distortion on them. Sounded like a muddy mess 75% of the time.
House of Blues is nice , smaller venue. Wage War was awesome. Also liked seeing Polaris and Dayseeker.
The people there were amazing. Everyone there was in good spirit and there to have a good time. There was some issues with people being to pushy but other than that all was well. The mosh pit was alive and well all night. I even got sucked into the pit. The security did a beautiful job at making sure everyone stayed safe and took great care of the crowd surfers. The venue was nice and bouncy and the service given by the staff was outstanding.
The concert was great. Bands were all good, atmosphere was excellent. Drinks were a little expensive but to be expected. Overall, awesome show!
Every band was great, sound was awesome, bartenders were fairly fast. Only complaint was drink prices but I dont expect anything different as far as that is concerned.
This show was by far one of the best this year! Dayseeker being the opening band got the show started right! The venue was perfect for that up close and personal feeling. I have been waiting to see Wage War for awhile now and it was well worth the wait!! Can’t wait to see them again!!
Great show and amazing venue l. It's pretty amazing when you can see a big time band in an intimate venue. Everyone was going insane the whole show. Great time!
WW brought the house down! Loved every min of it!! Can’t wait to see them again!
Venue was great. Open venue with easy access to bathrooms and exits. Air conditioning could have been better but was 95 degrees outside. All four bands were awesome. Dayseeker started it off great, followed by Polaris who got the crowd hype. Like Moths to Flames was good but not great. Wage War did not disappoint. Saw them open for August Burns Red four years ago and they were just as good!!
The entire lineup were killer! All bands were so heavy, it was amazing!!
