About

In the annals of 21st century alternative rock history there are few artists who cast a longer or more peculiar shadow than Finnish Love Metal pioneer Ville Valo. After all, his band HIM were easily among the most iconic and idiosyncratic groups of the millenium. Zealously revered, gleefully reviled but impossible to ignore, their music left an indelible mark on a worldwide legion of fans. The scarlet letters stood for His Infernal Majesty. Their founder stood for something delightedly out of step with the status quo.

"We only hoped to temporarily redirect hard rock's blood flow from the nether regions towards the heart", reminisces Ville Valo, the singer, songwriter and primus motor of HIM. Judging by the monolithic presence of the Heartagram in any account of music this side of the millennium it's apparent that he succeeded.

Inspired by everyone from Poe to Bukowski and tinged by a penchant for perfumed Sabbathian gloom, Valo's creative lovechild would produce eight era-defining studio releases and over ten million record sales, not forgetting a Grammy nomination, countless magazine covers, critical acclaim, and the veneration of a generation. Thus it came as no surprise that the news of a farewell tour in 2017 was greeted with shock and disbelief among devotees and endless speculation as to what or who was to take up the velvet mantle.

"As fun as the funeral rites for HIM were, it took me more than a few moons to lick my wounds in the shadow of the Heartagram and come up with an excuse to strum and hum again. Eventually I decided put a leash on my beloved black dog and we started howling together instead of barking at each other. That's how Loveletting was born".

Loveletting, the first single off VV's debut album 'Neon Noir' out in early 2023, suggests this new infernal mix of light and shade is nothing short of a landmark release from one of modern music's most distinctive and intriguing voices. It belongs to the same forlorn world of woe and whimsy once conceived and governed by Valo in HIM, but with the nuanced notes of a fine aged Cabernet.

"Artistically speaking the main difference between HIM and VV is the extra line in the Heartagram, but what an exquisite line it is! It's the Mamas and the Papas dressed up as Metallica on their way to a Halloween bash at the Studio 54, and now who wouldn't want to witness that?"

Throughout their career, VV has drawn massive crowds of fans, packing venues like Theatre of Living Arts, the Depot and Summit to capacity.

The opening acts were all very good, and HIM was amazing! The only problem I had was that the venue was very hot.

Best HIM show I've seen yet!

by ILikeSquirtles on 4/6/10Bogarts - Cincinnati

This was my 4th HIM show and by far the best one I've seen. Ville seems to be much more lively and energetic now that he's left drugs and alcohol behind; a few of their shows years ago were pretty sloppy due to substance abuse. Not this time though! They were definitely on top of their game, with a great setlist spanning all of their albums (sans 'Deep Shadows', my personal favorite...sniff, sniff) and enough banter to entertain the crowd. Had a great time.

    um duh.

    by Wickedtruth69 on 4/6/10Bogarts - Cincinnati

Excellent show! I would recommend this show to anyone and everyone who enjoys the band, but remember dress light and where comfy shoes. It gets really hot, in the standing room only. I would have liked the dude in front of me to have moved when I first asked him, though.

The show ROCKS as ALWAYS. I've seen HIM at least 5 times and they are never disappointing. The band plays at least up to 2 hours per show; and as always, you get your moneys worth with HIM. HIM is the GREATEST.

    HIM is incredible.

by LaurenMarrissa on 4/6/10Club Zoo - Pittsburgh

I've loved HIM and their music for a very long time and it was just a wonderful performance and a pleasure to be there even though I was slowly melting. The opening acts were very talented as well, the lead singer from We Are The Fallen had just an absolutely beautiful voice and though I really couldn't see to well due to where I was standing, it was a pleasure listening to them as well. I hope to see HIM again in the near future!!

    HIM was amazing but....

    by ryanlynn on 4/5/10Clutch Cargo's - Pontiac

HIM was amazing but the sound at clutch cargos was awfull. Most of the time we couldn't hear what Ville was saying or singing, all we could hear was the bass and drums. We had to rely on the crowd singing to know what song they were playing. Maybe they just had a hard time with Ville's deap voice, cause the other bands sounded fine. It was just dissapointing really....

    H.I.M, heartkillers

by lordsofwar on 4/5/10House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

The show was sold out, and in House of blues. Although its easily the best place in cleveland to see a show, sld out shows prove that there is more space needed in the joint. HIM, on the otere hand tore through their set. Only complaint i have with their performance is their older stuff sounded way better than their new stuff. And not just b/c i like their older stuff better, it seemed like the new stuff off screamworks was too quick and forced, Ville was out of breathe a lot. But they rocked in general, still the best " rock band " around.

    H.I.M. as always rocked

by romeodied on 4/4/10House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

I have to say that even though Ville Valo had a cold and his voice was hoarse, to hit the usual screams and high notes... He still gave it a 100%... Linde, Mige, Burton, and Gas as always were spot on... They sound live as on the cd... I drove 5 hours to see them for this show and can't wait to see them again in NYC...

HIM is the best band ever!!!

    by AnnaTheGreatest on 4/4/10Clutch Cargo's - Pontiac

HIM is my favorite band ever!!! I've been to 3 HIM shows prior to this one (this one being my 4th) and by far this one was my favorite, I don't know if it was a smaller venue and I somehow managed to make it to front row, but it was amazing. The music was great, Ville Valo and the rest of the band were great, and the atmosphere was great! Especially for what it cost, was totally worth it. I would go again and again if I could. HIM, thanks for the amazing show, come back to Michigan again soon! I come to every show!

    HIM Rocked!

    by skiffguard on 4/4/10Clutch Cargo's - Pontiac

I really loved this concert. Drive A started off very good and got the crowd interested. We are the Fallen was totally awesome. Can't wait for their CD. HIM's music sounded amazing. They didn't miss a beat. The vocals however were hard to decipher, because the MIC was turned way down and I could barely hear Ville Valo. Luckily for me, I know all of the words and could occasionally make out some words. Overall, great performance and venue. I would definitely check them out again anywhere.

    Dommin only

by Firefighteremt69 on 4/4/10House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

Dommin rocked the place. Drive A sucked. And, we didn't hang around for HIM and the other band. Spent the rest of our time hanging out with Dommin at the merch booth. The Venue is way too small. Numerous fights. Too many drunks. The only good thing about the whole deal was Dommin.

    Amazing!

    by Valolove1975 on 4/3/10Clutch Cargo's - Pontiac

It was my first time seeing HIM and it was unbelievable! The venue was great, too, great lighting and sound. It was awesome seeing Ville Valo in real live flesh and blood! The only problem was that the crowd was full of jerks. I'm not that tall and all these 6"+ guys kept crowding in front of me so I couldn't see. There were also people hogging the rail on the balcony and wouldn't let me in to see. I moved several times and no one would allow me to see. I ended up WAY in the back of the venue peeking between peoples' heads. At one point another short girl asked these 3 tall guys who were blocking us both if they could move over a little and they snapped, "We'll only move if you give us pot!" Great. But besides that, it was a great lifetime experience to see HIM live!

    HIM Rocks!

    by VILLELOVE on 4/3/10Clutch Cargo's - Pontiac

Drive A: Unimpressive Dommin: Didn't play - front man claimed laryngitis which was announced right after Drive A pumped the crowd up for them. That was disappointing. We Are The Fallen: Carly Smithson rocked...will definitely download a few. HIM: Ville Valo and the guys still got it! Awesome...loved them! They played all of my favorites plus a few new ones (1.2 hours), and performed two encores (1.5 hours total). Wish they would have played longer! Clutch Cargo's: Could have used some air conditioning. Sweltering! Pontiac: That city is post-apocolyptic...garbage, broken glass, and weeds line the sidewalks in front of empty run-down, abandoned businesses. Very sad town.

    HIM...WAS THE BEST!!!!

    by TattooPrincess on 4/3/10Clutch Cargo's - Pontiac

Had a great time from waiting in line meeting people, sharing our HIM related tattoo's, and then into the venue...a bit of crazyness for a while but when the show started it was GREAT. HIM ROCKED THE HOUSE, got great pics and was so close I caught Linde's guitar pic...LOVED IT
