About

In the annals of 21st century alternative rock history there are few artists who cast a longer or more peculiar shadow than Finnish Love Metal pioneer Ville Valo. After all, his band HIM were easily among the most iconic and idiosyncratic groups of the millenium. Zealously revered, gleefully reviled but impossible to ignore, their music left an indelible mark on a worldwide legion of fans. The scarlet letters stood for His Infernal Majesty. Their founder stood for something delightedly out of step with the status quo.

"We only hoped to temporarily redirect hard rock's blood flow from the nether regions towards the heart", reminisces Ville Valo, the singer, songwriter and primus motor of HIM. Judging by the monolithic presence of the Heartagram in any account of music this side of the millennium it's apparent that he succeeded.

Inspired by everyone from Poe to Bukowski and tinged by a penchant for perfumed Sabbathian gloom, Valo's creative lovechild would produce eight era-defining studio releases and over ten million record sales, not forgetting a Grammy nomination, countless magazine covers, critical acclaim, and the veneration of a generation. Thus it came as no surprise that the news of a farewell tour in 2017 was greeted with shock and disbelief among devotees and endless speculation as to what or who was to take up the velvet mantle.

"As fun as the funeral rites for HIM were, it took me more than a few moons to lick my wounds in the shadow of the Heartagram and come up with an excuse to strum and hum again. Eventually I decided put a leash on my beloved black dog and we started howling together instead of barking at each other. That's how Loveletting was born".

Loveletting, the first single off VV's debut album 'Neon Noir' out in early 2023, suggests this new infernal mix of light and shade is nothing short of a landmark release from one of modern music's most distinctive and intriguing voices. It belongs to the same forlorn world of woe and whimsy once conceived and governed by Valo in HIM, but with the nuanced notes of a fine aged Cabernet.

"Artistically speaking the main difference between HIM and VV is the extra line in the Heartagram, but what an exquisite line it is! It's the Mamas and the Papas dressed up as Metallica on their way to a Halloween bash at the Studio 54, and now who wouldn't want to witness that?"

Throughout their career, VV has drawn massive crowds of fans, packing venues like Theatre of Living Arts, the Depot and Summit to capacity.

  • HIM Blows Me Away!!!

by Anonymous on 4/30/10House of Blues Dallas - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

The show was absolutely amazing! The music was a mixed variety, something everyone could enjoy! The first bands, Drive A, Dommin, and We Are The Fallen, did an absolutely great job getting the crowd warmed up. HIM never fails to give a memorable performance and Ville's stage presence is so overwhelming I got light headed just from hearing him begin their first song! Anyone who is a fan of HIM and missed this show needs to go to the next one! This is something not to be missed.

Holysmokes this concert was unforgettable. I'm experiencing post-concert depression!! I would give anything to re-live that night! Drive A was really upbeat and was very enjoyable. I got to meet them and such after the concert woo! Dommin was awesome... lots of keyboards and very melodic!! Next came We Are The Fallen. They played good music but I got bored of it after a while...they could have been done like twenty mintues earlier than they were. And...do do doooo HIM!! HIM had such a great performace and the crowd was so into it that they had to play an encore!! WOW! that's all I can even say. Dear Drive A, Dommin, We Are The Fallen, and HIM, come baaaaaaack!! You guys are AMAZING.

  • AMAZING!!!!!!

by krisdomminlover on 4/29/10House of Blues Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

HIM was incredible! The show had alot of energy and great variety too. Everyone had a great time. Even Bam Margera was there to see the show! There should have only been one opening band, and that should have been Dommin. They were amazing and got an awesome reception. I got to meet with them after the show. They took pictures and signed autographs. It was way cool. Drive A was the first opening band. They need alot of work if they want to continue making music. Then came Dommin (yea!). The third openers We Are The Fallen weren't much better than Drive A. It was a total Evanescence flash back, except for a singer who was trying way too hard to be the next Amy Lee. Finally Him came on and rocked it like the gods they are. I left the House of Blues feeling fully musically satisfied!

by Flatliner on 4/27/10House of Blues Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

The show was awesome and according to others that came from the Los Angels show, this one was better. Security was very unorganized, didn't know what they were doing but all in all this show was more than I expected...

  • H.I.M. is still the best!!!

by Steffie00 on 4/26/10House of Blues Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

H.I.M. has been and always will be my favorite band of all time. I drove from Arizona to Las Vegas just to see them. This has been my 3rd time seeing them live and once again they didn't disappoint! I have never rocked out this much before at any other concert. My neck still hurts but its a good hurt. :)

  • Great show

by Ashlv on 4/26/10House of Blues Las Vegas - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Started off a little shaky, couldnt hear Villa but it got going and they rocked as always. We got a table at HOB and it was totally worth it- I would reccomend for any future shows you see there. Best part was we sat next to Bam Margera who is the reason we have all found HIM and love the band in the first place! Great night!

I absolutely loved it. This is my second time seeing them and I must say their great performers and they know how to keep their fans happy. I love you HIM I'm glad I saw you guys again. One thing I would really had loved was if I could have gotten the chance to take a pic with the band, and maybe hug ville.
