In 2005, long before Justin Vernon started making recordings under the name of Bon Iver -- and before his previous band, DeYarmond Edison, had even split up -- he collaborated with Collections of Colonies of Bees' Jon Mueller, Chris Rosenau, Jim Schoenecker, Daniel Spack, and Thomas Wincek on a side project called Volcano Choir. The group's first album, Unmap, was recorded in Vernon's studio in late 2008. The buzz surrounding this release was palpable, given that it was essentially arriving on the heels of Bon Iver's 2008 debut, For Emma, Forever Ago, an album that had enjoyed considerable popularity among indie crowds that year. Unmap was released on Jagjaguwar Records in the fall of 2009. ~ Margaret Reges, Rovi

Awesome, awesome show. Justin Vernon was obviously incredible but the best thing about this show was how much everyone else shined. Opener was also awesome, Sylvan Esso was their name, definitely worth checking out.
Totally not into this new sound. Way too much dude testosterone...and not only that but it's like geriatric bros. BORING....Justin's vocals are so rad...sad to not hear them come through. Lack of Bon Iver songs was a major bummer.
solid show - nice to see Justin with the band that started it all
This show was probably my favorite concert of all time. I have been to many, many concerts, but these guys were unbelievable. Even the opener, Sylvan Esso, killed it! Song after song, they proved themselves masters of their art. Volcano Choir is a must see if you ever get the chance. Not for one second did they not capture the audience in full. Even in quiet songs like Keel or Youlogy, the audience lay quiet, mesmerized. And at points, they cheered so loud, the band couldn't even thank them. Even after the show, the band came outside and just talked with the fans. That concert was one of the best nights of my life.
Great music, great venue. A show heavy on ambiance music, and it was wonderful. Intimate venue, Volcano Choir interacted with the audience, and Justin Vernon looked like he was really enjoying himself. Volcano Choir has its own sound, but Bon Iver fans won't be disappointed.
Amazing show. Plenty of songs from Unmap and Repave alike. You can't go wrong with Justin Vernon.
