    Better Than Ever

by BostonPhillyTraveler on 9/21/16Blue Ocean Music Hall - Salisbury

I bought the tickets because I love three or four of their songs, the ones which receive a lot of radio play back in the day. I ended up loving this concert so much because I heard new stuff which was as good or better than their old stuff. Plus there was a genuine connection with the audience. Opening act was a very young brother-sister duo with powerful stage presence and dramatic but not mawkish lyrics.

    Vertical Horizon was EPIC!

by Anonymous on 9/21/16Blue Ocean Music Hall - Salisbury

Vertical Horizon (Matt Scannel) has long been my favorite band. Matt's writing skills are unsurpassed. He touches all the points with me as far as brilliant lyrics, melody lines etc. and as a guitar player myself I think Matt us sadly unrecognized for his lead guitar prowess! So imagine my delight to see them live and watch Matt tear it up solo wise. The whole band was so tight! My only complaint (not really a complaint ) is that there wasn't another 2 hours if show as there were probably another 20 songs I was dying to hear. If you ever have a chance to see them live, leap upon it as you will not be disappointed!! I'm looking forward to their next return to New England

Great band but major sound problems

by Butch30 on 9/19/16B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

I have seen V.H. at least 4 or 5 times and they are one of my favorites. This performance was not great though, as either the band or the venue was having major problems with the sound system that not only affected the quality of the sound but also the performance as it was also causing significant problems with the in-ear monitors for the band. They even had to stop one song and start over. A shame - they are so great, but difficult to perform under such conditions. Footnote for Matt - I'm not in love with your seemingly new, much more processed guitar sound. The "Eric Johnson" tone works for the new song but other than that I'd much rather hear the lead guitar cutting through the mix a whole lot more than it did.

    Vertical horizon was amazing!

by Jessie685 on 10/13/15B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

Loved the performance and the venue was nice and comfy! I got the cheese plate and all of the cheese was a bit plastic tasting. Other than that I had a great experience.

    Vertical Horizon

by willbass on 10/13/15B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

Vertical Horizon played a great show at B.B. King's in Manhattan. The venue was absolutely perfect. Sizeable enough to hold a good-sized corwd, but laid out well enough so that the packed house remained comfortable with great views of the stage wherever you might be. The set list was a perfect combination of old and new songs. Props to the sound crew for an absolute perfect mix.

Vertical Horizon and Tonic ROCK Music City!

by swaggerspice on 9/1/14Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

Vertical Horizon and Tonic with their songs of the 90s and early 00s were literally music to my ears as they rocked the stage at the Wildhorse Saloon! Their chemistry among themselves and with each other was evident and made the entire show that much better! UNFORGETTABLE!

    Great Doubleheader!

by GoofyLightyear on 8/29/14Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

Went to the show for Vertical Horizon but really got into the Tonic set as well. Sound quality was not great but that is more due to the venue than the equipment or bands. That said, when either band returns to Nashville I will be there to see it.

    Vertical Horizon was awesome....Tonic forgettable

    by Rockytop2004 on 8/26/14Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

Venue was great. Vertical Horizon opened and put on a great show. They actually opened which was surprising. In the end I was glad because Tonic was basic to say the least. I will definitely attend this venue again.

    Inspired by the horizon.

by Nitejoker on 8/26/14Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

I've been wanting to see this band live for a while and I was familiar with Tonic who was headlining with them. Vertical Horizon got the audience involved with their music while explaining his purpose behind writing certain songs. The audience would sing along to the song while he played and at times he instructed the crowd. However, the band Tonic just picked newer songs to jam out on. So, you basically got a 15 minute version of Sugar with a guitar and drum solo which would have been better during Open Up Your Eyes.

Great show, venue nice, organization lacking.

by ragsfan on 8/26/14Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

I loved the VH show. Went specifically to see them. Bought M&G ticket, expecting to M&G with VH. They told us as we were going in that the M&G was for Tonic, NOT VH. Made this abundantly clear throughout the evening leading up to the show and prior to the VH set. After the VH set they apparently decided they would allow M&G ticket holders to M&G with VH but at that point I had already left so I missed it. NOT Vertical Horizon's fault. Wildhorse dropped the ball there.

Vertical Horizon killed and Tonic rocked!

    by gehrig041927 on 8/26/14Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

The show was amazing! Both bands were living off of the audience and totally put their hearts in the show. It just goes to show that a good crowd helps make the concert better. And the Wildhorse Saloon was a perfect local; every aspect of the place was bar none from the wait staff to the management.

Vertical Horizon Hit it Tonic Tanked

by backizback on 8/25/14Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

The only reason I did not rate this 5 stars was Tonic. Could not believe that Vertical Horizon would be the "warm up" band and since when does a warm up band play for 90 mins and an encore? Matt performed so well and the way he interacted with the crowd was great! We along with about 30 others walked out after 20 mins of Tonic.

Tonic and Vertical Horizon were both amazing...

by fiveminutemajorpenalty on 8/25/14Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

Strog all the way through. Only negative was the sound volume for both was excessive. Both bands were excellent...and Tonic was phenomenal!

    Vertical Horizon was incredible!

    by NashvilleMay2010 on 8/25/14Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

Tonic was a very good opening act and Vertical Horizon was an awesome headliner. It's very rare to have two bands at one concert that could each headline their own shows, and both bands played for over an hour and a half, which was even better. :)

Tonic & Vertical Horizon +Wildhorse = GREAT SHOW!

    by 3fiatsnomore on 8/25/14Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

Vertical Horizon was great! Loved all the "stories" behind the music. What he was feeling and/or what was going on his life when he wrote the song. I've always loved TONIC! Tight sound, great songs. Definitely a highlight of the night for me. Every time I go to the Wildhorse I'm reminded of what a great venue it is for bands. Nice airy, great sound, great views of the stage. One awesome night for sure.

    Unbelievable show!!

by guitargreek on 8/25/14Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

I've seen both Vertical Horizon and Tonic several times before in the 90's and early 2000's, and they still have it. It is not a nostalgia event. There's a great mix of old and new music. Great energy from both bands, and the musicianship is superb. Definitely see these bands.

We came to hear Matt sing, NOT the audience!

by Pnabbie on 8/12/14Golden Nugget - Atlantic City

We were greatly looking forward to this show, because we had seen VH before and they were excellent. VH was in its heyday when my husband and I were first dating, and I always associate their music with our romance. I play Everything You Want on Valentine's Day. After about 3 songs of Matt asking the audience to sing the song, I was over it. Asking us to sing more by saying "I'm greedy" once, might have been heartwarming. But using that same line again was not cute nor funny. Out of the whole night, there were maybe 2 or 3 songs that we were not asked to sing alone (or sing alone) during. The stage lights were often turned directly on the audience while we were singing too. Perhaps Matt was having trouble with his voice; he alluded to a special drink for his vocal chords. Regardless, by halfway through, I couldn't wait for the show to be over. On one or two songs, it's nice to acknowledge that the audience knows your hits, it's heartwarming and good fan connection. But not on every song. We paid to hear the band, not to come out for a singalong.

    Amazingly Intimate

by Techchick on 8/7/14Golden Nugget - Atlantic City

I'm a long-time fan so to see them live in concert was amazing! The venue was much smaller than I was expecting, which was a good thing. Matt Scannell was especially great, making the night into a very intimate singer-songwriter experience.

Best concert experience of my life!

by GuitarMikeRocks on 8/6/14Golden Nugget - Atlantic City

There's no other way to put it. The band was amazing and also some of the most friendly and wonderful people you could ever meet. Every member sounded insanely tight, and Matt Scannell's songwriting is just phenomenal.
