We were all so excited for this performance...a ballet directed towards the perspective of a young child. Our grand daughter has taken ballet and is very talented and interested.
However, this performance showed poor direction, not being cohesive with a clear story line. The animals needed to show more drama towards the bullied one and then much more emphasis on the redeeming factor ... Embrassing diversity in a big way to get the point across.
Why was the bird, the main character, not called a crow? He certainly resembled a crow and not at all a cuckoo, which is a soft tan color or brown. In addition, the costumes were all too dark with the black background of the Cain Park stage. Also the tails were not appropriate in most cases for the animal depicted.
At the end the director actually told the audience that he'd just choreographed the dance the day before...and the dancers confirmed they'd just learned it. This is NOT a compliment to all those who paid good money for a well designed and danced performance. It is sloppy work which I do not care to experience again.
