one of the better performances of this classic play. The sound and lighting system is the best. The seats are comfortable and parking is painless. In the front row, stage left, two very enthusiastic sign language interpreters "signed" the entire performances to a group of hearing impaired guests. A man did the male roles and a lady did the female roles. I was very much impressed, as they knew the play as well as the actors. They even did the french speaking parts,

Thoroughly enjoyable. Staging-very good. Voices-very good--clear and understandable. The only improvement I could ask for is a larger orchestra to give it a little more body.

My father, brother and I had our first visit to this venue on Saturday. We all thoroughly enjoyed everything related to the show. The center is beautiful and seats are very comfortable. The show itself had terrific staging and all of the performers were among the best we have ever seen/heard. I was pleased to see the show well-attended. Nice to have a llocal place offering superb entertainment...no need to drive to Los Angeles!

I've seen South Pacific many times and this was by far the best performance I've ever experienced. The cast from the La Mirada Theater for Performing Arts did not disappoint. This was my first time at the Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts/Soraya and I will definitely return to see more shows.

The music and story is always wonderful. This is the 3rd stage production of SP that I have seen, I have read Michener's book, and the book describing how Michener came to write the book and how R and H and Logan came to produce the musical. I have some background with this. I had a great seat in the loge, so was able to see the stage and pit. My comments are that the character of Nellie Forbush was weak and fragile, the Arkansas accent was tinny. Emile was very good, the dance group was good, with several really good. The sailors were not inspiring. The orchestra sometimes was out of sync with the actors. Still, the music is SP and breathtaking no matter who is doing it. I don't normally like writing reviews, but you asked.

I was curious how South Pacific would translate into a contemporary production. I had recently read the play and it reminded me of a velvet painting. The storyline has unwitting elements of questionable morality. But I had fun, this was a musical I grew up with, the songs are memorable, the singing was great, and it was easy to get into the flow and accept the politically incorrect parts as relics of the past. The leads played well together and made a believable couple although the middle-aged french plantation owner who talked a lot about how old he was seemed too young for the part. And the dewy eyed girl from Arkansas seemed a little too old, but I really liked how she played her with a country twang, so the audience gets how she would have freaked out in the early 1940s over the plantation owner's biracial kids. The actress who played Bloody Mary was excellent in a role that can easily become total caricature.

We were so looking forward to this highly touted production of South Pacific and finally experiencing this venue. It felt like a disjointed staged concert instead of a fully realized play. Only Bloody Mary fully and consistently embodied her character. The leads were stiff, to say the least! It felt like a tech rehearsal that wouldn’t have passed muster in many high school or community theatres. And the venue was ok but not wonderful, seriously folks, the women’s restroom was a joke!

First time I saw South Pacific was at Lincoln Center with Florence Henderson as Nellie Forbush. This version of the show which was physically smaller because of the restrictions of the stage size, and had fewer actors and a smaller stage presence. The set was beautifully constructed, and the male lead actor was superb. The female lead did not have a large enough stage presence to carry her part. Her voice was good, but she lacked the acting skills to carry off the Forbush role. Last note: The orchestra did a good job with its size constraints, but this Rogers and Hammerstein production demands a larger orchestra, There were e several songs where the orchestra was unable to support the actor(s) in song.
