About

VANILLA ICE IN CONCERT:

From his days as one of the world's most famous rappers  to his reemergence as a genre-spanning rocker, Vanilla Ice has remained a consummate showman. The iconic flattop haircut and American flag warm-up suit of his "Ice Ice Baby" period may be gone, but the fire and energy that made him famous still abound at his electrifying live shows where he takes the stage alongside an inflatable grim reaper and launches buckets of confetti into the audience. The addition of a live drummer ensures that Ice's beat-heavy sound is bigger than ever on his must-see tours, where he treats ticket buyers to his hip-hop classics as well as recent fan favorites like "Turn It Up".

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Dallas-born Vanilla Ice, a.k.a. Robert Matthew Van Winkle, grew up influenced by hip-hop culture, taking up breakdancing in his teens and battle rapping at parties a few years later. In the late '80s he began performing regularly with his DJ and crew at a Dallas night club called City Lights, where he warmed up the stage for a variety of high-profile acts including N.W.A., Public Enemy, and MC Hammer. Ice made his recording debut in 1990 with "Ice Ice Baby", the lead single from his first album To the Extreme. The song was an international phenomenon, skyrocketing to No. 1 on charts around the world and establishing him as the first rapper to top the Billboard Hot 100. Several more hit singles followed including "Play That Funky Music" and "Cool as Ice (Everybody Get Loose)", but by the mid-'90s his star waned as he struggled with addiction and a grueling tour schedule. He returned to the spotlight in 1998 with the nu metal album Hard to Swallow, and has since dabbled in genres as far-ranging as country and techno on albums like 2001's Bi-Polar and 2011's W.T.F. (Wisdom, Tenacity, and Focus). Ice continues to entertain with his diverse sound and inimitable showmanship on his unforgettable tours.

Rob Base and Salt n Pepa was awesome! I left after Salt n Pepa so I can't speak on Vanilla Ice. The sound was terrible. The mice weren't loud enough and kept giving a lot of feedback.

This was the best time I've had in a long time. Hearing all of the dance music I grew up with brought back such awesome memories. Didn't stop dancing for 3 hours...Totally made my birthday weekend!

DJ Laz was very entertaining with the music during recess. The best performers were Salt n Pepa, Rob Base, and 2 Live crew. Coolio was the worst performer I have ever seen. Overall the concert was nice. I had fun.

Legends of Old School worth every dollar!

by stouties on 11/23/15BankUnited Center - Coral Gables

If you loved the Old School hits and all the booty shaking music of the early 90's than this show is for you! I danced for about 4 hours straight! I gave 4 stars because of the sound. The sound crew completely messed up Coolio's set and Salt N Pepa almost suffered the same fate but they got it together. I was looking forward to Vanilla Ice's performance of the songs listed but he did his own new interpretations of it which were good but not the hits that I loved.

by 2chinboys on 11/23/15BankUnited Center - Coral Gables

Vanilla ice stole the show. By the time Salt and Peoa warmed up their set was over. 2 live crew missing members Dj Zog using pre recorded mixes that were 5 years old. It was just so disappointing!!!!!!!!! Except Vanikka ice !!

    Legends forgot their voice

by finheads41 on 11/23/15BankUnited Center - Coral Gables

Disappointed with everything. No Uncle Luke with 2 live crew, Coolio was lost, Salt and Pepa we could barely understand what they were singing, Rob Base was ok, Gucci Crew was the only performance that I really enjoyed. DJ Laz was ok too. Vanilla Ice from what I heard was great. We couldn't take it anymore and left before he performed.

    Forgettable... Totally

by AmiMiami on 11/23/15BankUnited Center - Coral Gables

The sound system was horrible. Best act was definitely Salt n' Pepa. The 2 Live Crew was more like the 1 Live as it seems there are inly two members now. It seemed more like a money making event and they kept promoting some after party nonsense. I used a coupon code to get two tickets for $54.50 out the door. I doubt it was worth what I paid. Sad. Would give it zero stars if I could.

    Old School Music

by Peter67C on 11/23/15BankUnited Center - Coral Gables

This was a Class Act Event, just the right mix of Singers. The event brought me back to my Teenage years and that was worth every penny spent. I had not enjoyed myself the way I did in a long time. Thank you for bringing back memories. *One request I have: Please sell better Liquor, the offered selection did not match the prices. We are not in high school any more, we like the good stuff. Don't mind paying $18.00 if its the good liquor. I hope you keep doing it.

The engineer should be fired. I wish I could get my money back. The only sound that was good was when the djs were on. When the singers and groups went on stage the mics were on so low you could barely hear them and the background music was very low as well. It ruined the show and made it look like an amature night. I felt bad for the acts. Did they even do a sound check? I will never go back to this venue again. They obviously have no idea what they are doing and shouldn't book acts like this.

The Ice mans still got it, and 1 of the local bands , Absentees rocked it out. However the venue is a hellhole, just nasty, we'll NEVER go there again!

    Ice, Ice, Baby

by DarkH on 8/13/10Altar Bar - Pittsburgh

Vanilla Ice in Pittsburgh was the best show I have been to in a very long time. He was very into the concert, into the crowd, and very high energy. Word of caution... you will get wet!

    Worth the ticket price.

    by Charlieswife09 on 9/28/09Peabody's Downunder - Cleveland

Vanilla Ice put on a good show and was enjoyable. Ice Ice Baby was the highlight of the show of course. It was worth the price of the ticket just to see what he would do. It was him, a DJ and a drummer on stage. He played some new music. My main complaint was with the venue, not Ice. The ticket said 7pm and listed one opener. We arrived at 8:15-8:30. Vanilla Ice did not perform until 12:05! We had to sit through 5 opening acts and 3 of them were really horrible. The other 2 were OK.

    Sweet but short

by JohnTheEmperor on 9/27/09Peabody's Downunder - Cleveland

Vanilla Ice rocked but only played for maybe 30 minutes (4 or 5 songs). I expected a little more from the performance but it was worth it.
