This was an excellent show, and my seat was front row, touching stage. The highlight of the concert was first Carmine Appice drum solo, then playing the song "People get Ready". They also played Zeppelin Dazed & Confused. Simply awesome. Jeff
They said they would play all the songs on their first alblum and they did. The fans went wild. Before they came out, they played the video of them 1968 on the Ed Sullivan Show, with Mark Stein on organ singing "You Keep Me Hanging On". For the encore, he sang it live. This was my first time seeing them, and I wasn't disappointed!!! I got to meet and talk to Mark aftter the show. It made my night!!!
I have seen the Fudge many times and as usual it was tasty. Unfortunately, Tim was not with them.
When I was 16, Vinny was my guitar teacher for a few lessons. Teaching me "Ticket to Ride", the way they did it was unbelievable. Seeing them 42 years later was a dream come true. They played all the right ones including Ticket to Ride, Eleanore Rigby, Season of the Witch and so many more. Carmine was great on the drums and his solo was spetacular. If for a moment, I went back in time, a time of my youth when music was everything and was played in ways no one else captures today. With each song, Vanilla Fudge made the crowd part of their act, got them singing into their songs, clapping, stomping, yelling, screaming for more. An extra 2 songs as the encore for the night, it was a great farewell to a great band! I will always treasure their albums, but the memory of this night will live forever! I can cross them off my bucket list of bands to see before I die! Stan P
After being disappointed in seeing so many retro bands, I had all but given up on them, but two very dear friends fr Fargo ND came to visit me, it was their very first trip to NY. I told 'em before they come look on line & see what show they might like to see in NYC while they were here. I had a sneaky suspicion they were gonna pick Vanilla Fudge & true to form thats exactly who they picked out of all the shows on Broadway etc. Sat night BB's was wall to wall w/ baby boomers. If it wasn't sold-out I'm not sure where they put people...LOL. I have always considered VF to be the ultimate copy band...there is no band on the planet that does it better than these guys...NO ONE. And they are the "kings of the intro". So great to see Mark Stein playing w/ them though I missed Tim...For me, I consider Tim & Carmine to be the best rhythm section EVER in rockn roll. I believe they really took this farewell tour seriously. If I had one regret it would be they didn't do Ain't That Peculiar, but I'm guessing that was Bill Pascalli's arrangement as I think he sang it on the Return cd, other than that I say keep on saying farewell more a few more rounds gentlemen.
Went to the show with low expectations. Boy was I in for a shock. The boys played like it was 1968. They never missed a note and sustained the action for the whole show. I felt like I was 18 again.
These guys just didn't age!!!!! Preformance was awsome. Better than I ever remembered. Mark just makes the Hammond talk.
the band still rocks as great as ever.......the power and dynamics that made them stand out are still there, all sang and played in top form..................mark stein's hammond is still one of the great sounds in rock.......carmine is still carmine...............a rock and roll treat
Absolutely incredible concert. Too bad this is their farewell tour because it sounded like there is still plenty of gas left in the tank.
When going to see a band live who came out 30+ years ago, you don't expect a great deal. This was more than I could ask for. Not only did they play the entire Platnum album but threw in an outrageous rendition of Dazed and Confused. I went with 4 other friends who were not as much into the band as I, and they were amazed by the show. The sound was perfect, the band was right on. They did not miss a beat. In fact if you compared them to 30 years ago, I think they sounded better. They were into it more than the audience, and that is saying alot!
Being completely honest of what the night was going to offer, I bought two tickets for this gig for my father's birthday. I've seen other 'final' reunion tours and they have ended in an absolute train wreck. This was not the case with Vanilla Fudge. Aside from a few missteps, the band was in fine form, both musically and stage presence. After completing the first LP in its entirety, they went on to play other hits, importantly an insane version of 'Dazed & Confused' and You Keep Me Hangin' On.' It was great that the band shared stories from throughout the years as well, most notably when Zeppelin opened for them on their first US tour. My expectations were blown out of the water. Plus, the crowd for this gig made it a night to remember!
Vanilla Fudge were, to the best of my recollection, the first or second concert I ever saw, a show at the Fordham University gym back in 1968. Based on their performance on Saturday night (with 3 of the 4 original members in attendance), they have only improved with age. Each member was in excellent form, playing solos that would be the envy of musicians half their age, and they gave the crowd exactly what it wanted. They played their entire first album (saving "You Keep Me Hanging On" for their encores), plus a few more of their most popular songs. They were clearly inspired by the wildly enthusiastic crowd, and although this was sold as a "Farewell Tour", as they left they said they'd be back. Why I waited forty years to see them again, I have no idea, but I won't make the same mistake twice. If you get the chance and enjoy their soaring, grandiose, extended versions of rock classics, don't miss them!
The show was really good. This was the first time I saw Vanilla Fudge They had that old school energy. Complete with drum solo! Hopefully this won't be a" Farewell Tour". Music needs groups around like the Vanilla Fudge to keep the torch burning .
Oldy but goodie...vocals great, music still as good as originals....see 'em if you can.
I totally enjoyed seeing this show at B.B. King Club in New York City. The show was fantastic, and I would definitely see Vanilla Fudge again. Carmine Appice (the drummer) was unbelievable! It's too bad that Tim Bogert was not playing with them that night. I really hope that this isn't their farewell tour. They can still rock!!
Vanilla Fudge is one of the best bands from the 60's & 70's. They still got it. If they're playing near you they are a must see.
