About

Vancouver Sleep Clinic in Concert

Don't let the name fool you: this is music far better enjoyed awake. Vancouver Sleep Clinic started, aptly enough, in singer/songwriter/producer Tim Bettinson's bedroom in Brisbane, Australia. At 17 years old, he found that crafting tunes on his keyboard and computer was the best way to procrastinate on homework — and it would soon take him further than he ever imagined.

Bettinson first made waves in 2013 after introducing his song "Vapour" online — it quickly drew a fan base, encouraging him to keep creating. In 2014, he released his first EP, ‘Winter,' featuring "Vapour" alongside other fan favorites like "Flaws" and "Collapse," all of which gorgeously synthesize his Bon Iver-inspired falsetto and dreamy electronics into silky ambient-pop. He soon began playing live shows for the first time, even snatching a slot at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, and supporting bands like London Grammar and The Naked and Famous. All the while, Bettinson was working on his debut album, which he'd have finished by the time he turned 19.

It would take some time, though, before the album was released to the public. Finally, ‘Revival' dropped in 2017 — two years after its completion — but the wait was well worth it. Working alongside Grammy Award-winning producer and songwriter Al Shux, Bettinson created a haunting, moody collection of bittersweet melodies meant for wistful daydreaming. In support of ‘Revival,' he then took to the road to headline shows throughout Europe, the U.S., and his home country of Australia.

Though on a high from the release and touring, Bettinson spent much of the next year entangled in a battle with his label as he fought to get out of his recording contract. During this time, he was busy creating new music. Finally, he was able to cut ties with his label and released a poignant set of two EPs, ‘Therapy Phase 01' and ‘Therapy Phase 02.'
