What an event!
by mysonandme on 12/14/10Orpheum Theatre - VancouverI took my 13 year old son to this performance, and it was an absolute treat! From the 'old school sophistication' of the Orpheum itself, to the terrific performances of the VSO and the Vancouver Bach Choir, it was top notch. My son and I discussed each detail of the performance at length in the car on the way home.... he enjoyed it as much as I did. I grew up with my mom playing Messiah in the house at Christmas and Easter, and have grown to love this piece of music tremendously. We had the performance by the London Philharmonic Orchestra (directed by John Alldis), and I've got the same version on my iPod, as well as one by the Orlando Philharmonic. The December 11 performance sounded very 'right'..... particularly the Orchestra..... simply superb playing Also, it was very complete.... most of the pieces which don't appear on abbreviated versions of Messiah were there! What a thrill to listen to! In particular, seeing the violins move and play in absolute unison, playing as one, was awesome. One can't help but feel that this piece of music is truly inspired by God.
