New York indie-rock act Vampire Weekend's third album, Modern Vampires of the City, hit the streets in 2013 and debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart. The feat was nothing new for the acclaimed young band, which also topped the chart with their preceding album, 2010's Contra.
Ezra Koenig (lead vocals), Chris Baio (bass), Chris Tomso (drums), and Rostam Batmanglij (producer and multi-instrumentalist) formed Vampire Weekend while attending New York's Columbia University, and their fusing of alt-rock sensibilities with African rhythms and hooks was garnering plenty of attention long before they'd released their self-titled debut album in 2008 -- in fact, their first appearance on the cover of Spin magazine came before their first album hit stores. The early acclaim and scrutiny didn't faze the band, which continued to impress fans and critics with each new release. Vampire Weekend remained a fixture on the tour circuit in 2013 as the foursome headlined concerts at large venues around the world and topped bills at major festivals. Fans who scored tickets in 2013 heard the band play favorites like "A-Punk," "Oxford Comma," and "Horchata," along with several songs from Modern Vampires of the City.
Great night at a super venue. The band sounded just like they do on CD. And so much interaction with the crowd. So fun.
one of the best concerts and venues Iāve ever been toš„°š„°š„°š„°
vampire weekend delivered! had a blast the whole 3.5hrs of the show. literally everybody was dancing and singing. best concert experience ever in the hollywood bowl.
I would give this concert 5 stars, as it was a great performance by the band and they played pretty much every song in their catalog, plus a cover of Crowded House's "Don't dream it's over". I am giving only 4 stars because I think the tickets were way overpriced. I have seen similar acts like The Kooks, The Fratellis, James and others at the Observatory in North Park for less than half of what I had to pay here. They had nothing special in the stage to justify charging so much more, and it's just a trend of certain acts to squeeze their fans for money...
This concert was full of energy and the venue was amazing! Looking forward to seeing them again soon!
Not only was Vampire Weekend amazing, the Cal Coastal Amphitheater at SDSU was the perfect venue. Easy to get in and out of. Parking was nearby. Overall great experience.
We had great seats 2nd row. VW sounded amazing but lacked charisma especially down in front. Good beer selection but lines were long. I liked that there were separate water lines. Crew was polite
godly experience great view but missed out on Croakerman at this location :'(
Not a bad seat in the house as Vampire Weekend played an amazing set! They sounded tight and beautiful as they played songs from Father of the Bride intermixed with favorites of previous releases. I have wanted to see them live since I first heard them long ago and they did not disappoint. I had read that they might take requests and they did so which was really cool. There were a few more songs I would have liked to hear but they played so many favorites I left completely satisfied. Walcott was a great song with which to finish. Soccer Mommy was also a strong opening band!
Can I give VW 12 stars? The show was everything you would hope for and more. Absolutely dead on flawless musicians and entertaining. Had everyone singing. Venue was awesome. I flew from Toronto to see them for the second time on this tour. Would see them again in a heartbeat and be excited for the opportunity.
This show was absolutely amazing. They played almost 30 songs, including 3 that were straight up audience request. Brian Robert Jones in the guitar is so underrated- he is an incredibly talented guitar player. And even though there are seats in the arena, everyone stood and moved to the beat pretty much the whole time, so the energy and participation from the crowd was great. 10/10 would recommend
We had been waiting to see them live for over 5 years. They delivered! They played for over 2 hours, played the hits, played the more obscure songs. They even took audience requests. The band was solid. Canāt wait to see them again.
The show was so amazing! They sound so good live. We werenāt sure what to expect but we were blown away by their talent and energy. Definitely recommend seeing them live!
The band was great, but there were 2 couples behind us who got drunk and then talked loudly through the entire concert. I asked them 2x to please be quieter and was told "maybe" and then was subjected to snarky comments behind my back. We were able to move seats for the encore as some people had vacated and enjoyed it much more. I don't understand people paying to go to a concert to talk loudly to one another the whole time. What's the point?
Having followed Vampire Weekend since their debut album, but never having seen them live, I was not sure what to expect. A bunch of prestigious college kids that just decided to start a band. How good could they be live? The answer... amazing! One of the tightest sets Iāve ever seen. And! For an encore, they asked for song requests from the audience. How many bands keep up on their entire repertoire of music! Wonderful show! I highly recommend seeing them live!
It was everything I wanted it to be and more !!!!!!
I bought three tickets for the show much in advance. The other two members of my party cancelled and I was unable to sell it transfer those tickets within the app. I am doubtful that I will use this app again if this is the case with all event tickets. This needs to be improved as I lost a lot of money on these tickets.
I had not been to the Hollywood Bowl in 10 years. And I didn't know the group that well. This was a wonderful concert! I loved the cross section of people in the audience. The sound was great, even though our seats were up in the bloody nose section. The band was tight and very accomplished. I was amazed how great the request songs were! And the ongoing encores were a treat. My one caveat, is that if one was prone to seizures, they could not go, as the light explosions would initiate some.
It was a beautiful night and I was with three of my favorite people. But watching Ezra, singing, dancing and playing those amazing songs, was a dream come true! That said, I loved the Vampire Weekend show! All of the musicianship on stage was outstanding. My money was well spent!
Concert was great. Only issue & itās kinda minor is we walked down during encore to jump on the zoo bus but no one was allowed on buses until the show was over so there were 200-300 people just standing around waiting. Not very efficient & the buses are better managed by non-lease events so you could do better there.
