I have been to COUNTLESS Ashford and Simpson concerts.. ALWAYS AMAZING so I had to be at Valerie's first solo show ..It's Monday 3 days later and I'm STILL on fire from that OUTSTANDING show !!!! shared a booth with a couple from Canada and they came to my church service on Sunday :) AMAZING all around evening
This was truly a great show! Would love to see her again.
Current. Amazing. Talented . Her voice and musicians were incredible.
Ms Simpson was very gracious in her performance. I felt her energy and love how she has the same if not more determination to not let life's unforeseen occurrence slow her down.
Valerie Simpson was superb. I knew of her songwriting prowess but did not realize what a gifted stage performer she is. Sings beautifully, dances well, relates well to her audience. A truly great performer.
It was wonderful to see Valerie - she looked stunning. But I'd never been so disappointed at her song selections. At one point she attempted to sing I"m Every Woman and that is way out of her range. If she song one Ashford & Simpson hit, then, that was it. She did a quick medley of songs written for Diana Ross and such but not any of their own jams that they made famous. I left feeling very empty and wanted more of the old songs and not this made up format. Sorry Val!!!!
Valerie Simpson put on a great show at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA. just outside of the Nations' Capitol. She took the audience down memory lane with her singing some of Motown's greatest hits that she co-wrote with her late husband ,Nick Ashford. When she sat down at the piano it was priceless. She sang "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing", which she dedicated to her husband. She also performed "You All I Need to Get By" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". She also wowed those in attendance with "The Boss" from an album she and Ashford produced for Diana Ross. Ms. Simpson was full energy when she left the stage to mingle with the audience while singing "I'm Every Woman". Her band and background vocalists were outstanding. "Street Corner" and "Solid" had the audience wanting more.
Awesome performance!! Pre-birthday girl Valerie was in rare form! Got to hear old amd new stuff! Just wish it could have been "more"!
The show was most enjoyable. She is a master musician - singer, pianist, all round entertainer. Introduction of a daughter as one of her back-up singers was a pleasant surprise. My first visit to the Birchmere - I loved the venue, food and drinks. Will be back!!
Her performance was so first-rate, excellent stage presence. Band was terrific and tight even picking up her improvises.
I have been a fan of her's since the seventies when I was in college. Her voice is stronger than ever! She was great!
