Vagina Monologues was an emotional roller coaster!

by Anonymous on 2/19/16E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - Akron

It's one of those 'like no other' performances that everyone should see! I am a little embarrassed to say this, but think it is only fair to say that the only reason that I did not give it five stars is that there were a couple of mispronunciations. I wish I were not this way, but too many years of hearing what a priority precise grammar, syntax, and pronunciation should be, makes it a little unsettling when there are errors, however small and few. Otherwise, this was an amazing night, over way too soon!

The show was very well delivered and the actors are all fantastic. However, the opening show could be removed altogether. Clearly students but the format was a little painful.

    Not impressed. Reading skills?

by Rektor on 2/3/15E.J. Thomas Hall - The University of Akron - Akron

The venue was nice and everyone was friendly. The accommodations were nice and comfortable. Other than that, we were fairly disappointed. Only about 1/4 of the "actresses" could successfully read through their monologue without messing up. Frankly, I was surprised they were reading in the first place. Several were just incredibly difficult to understand. I'm sure this was a ground-breaking show in 1996 but it was a snooze fest in 2015 on this night.

Between the message of support to women everywhere and the delightful acting, I am so happy that I saw this production. Kudos!

    Awesome...

by Brismamma on 2/18/13CSUN - Cal State Northridge - Northridge

The women in this play were all wonderful...each with their own personality compassionately told the story of other women. My hats off to the director, her team, and the awesome cast of the play. It brought me to tears laughing so hard at times, and crying in pain for others who had suffered. Every woman should see the show...and bring your man, he may learn something!!

You can't beat the ticket prices for such a good show. In these political times, the vagina monologues are more thought provoking than ever.

    Hence the name "Monologues"

by MochaDott on 2/13/12Smith Ballroom - Portland

I was abit disappointed, it wasn't really what I thought it'd be, but glad I went.. Thought I'd heard enuf before about the show, as it had rave reviews of being severely funny a few years ago in a different city, but it seems each show may differ from any earlier ones. The show is basically a collection of women's stories gathered by researchers years ago, could've been part of Kinsey Reports. I loved the way satire was artfully blended with simple truths & blatant honesty. I was surprised, but greatly appreciated, the segments on social injustice against women around the world. I came away from the show with significantly deeper perspective on all kinds of levels. I was not uncomfortable with the show's overall content, or my own sexuality, but I can see how some people might be.

    vm worth watching

    by 007of9 on 2/13/12Smith Ballroom - Portland

This was a great show. There was definitely a full range of emotions wrapped up in this performance and there were a few actors that were just phenomenal! This was the 15th anniversary of the vm, and it does not seem to have lodt its touch. I am wondering if they change from year to year. Guess i will find out next year.

The event was wonderful. It followed very closely with the book. The performers were well matched with the piece that they performed. Had lots of funny moments with a few serious ones. Well done!

A Play Everyone Needs to See Once in Their Life

    by R0wena on 2/12/12Smith Ballroom - Portland

What can I say? I laughed, I cried, I did both at the same time... and then I went back the next night. Every man, woman, and variations thereupon needs to see this play.

    The Vagina Monologues/ awareness

by Kolya42 on 2/12/12E.J. Thomas Hall - Akron

The characters brought recognition to concepts that are deemed inappropriate, and explained how such labeling was simply a form of oppression. Also, the characters elaborated on how true acknowledgment and expression of one’s entire self is very beneficial and even therapeutic. The candid manner of their explanations was humorous, and made it easier to accept and appreciate what they were talking about. So much energy was emanating from the actors, inducing such a positive reaction from the audience, including myself. I felt as if I was a part of something that was having a great impact on the world, appreciating that I could witness a constructive spreading of awareness. With an effort like that going out into the world, all kinds of people are going to learn about what goes on in the lives of women. Furthermore, the learning experience is positive, and encourages an optimistic view of the subject.

    Vagina Monologues...humorous and intelligent

by serendipity7 on 2/12/12E.J. Thomas Hall - Akron

Really enjoyed this presentation. Loved the emotion, the thought provoking insertions, and the use of humor to really talk about the sometimes private, sometimes difficult yet necessary conversation regarding women, their sexuality and their abuse. Only criticism was some of the dialogue was lost because of background noises. The bar area was a little loud, a woman clop-clop-clopped in high heels and audience members were sometimes talking during the performance. It's the kind of performance that EVERY word is important and I'm sorry we missed some. Perhaps, and I'm just suggesting off the top of my head, there could be key words pop up on the screen behind them almost like "pull out quotes." Thank you!

vagina monologues not what I was expecting.

by cucue on 4/6/11U.C. Riverside - Riverside

Not good at all I thought it would be more like a play not reading from a script, I was disappointed. My invites were not very happy I felt embarrassed for inviting them to his event. I saw the same play at UC Santa Cruz and that one was excellent with real acting, not read from a script. Sorry I would not recommend this.
