University of Texas Longhorns Men's Basketball History

The University of Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team launched in 1906 and spent its initial years as an independent program until forming the Southwest Conference for the 1914–15 season. After logging a 22-1 record under coach Ed Olle, the Longhorns retroactively won their sole National Championship in 1933, as determined by the Premo-Porretta Power Poll. Texas later helped create the Big 12 Conference ahead of the 1996-97 season, and will remain a member until moving to the Southeastern Conference in 2024.

The Longhorns have made 37 tournament appearances and reached the Final Four three times in 1943, 1947 and 2003. Texas has made all but four NCAA Tournaments since 1999. In the Big 12, Texas has led the regular season conference title three times, and won the conference tournament in 2021 and 2023. The Longhorns are currently under the leadership of Rodney Terry.

Notable Texas alumni include Kevin Durant, LaMarcus Aldridge, D.J. Augustin, T.J. Ford, Royal Ivey, P.J. Tucker, Jarett Allen and Avery Bradley, who have all continued on to lengthy pro careers. Durant was named Naismith Player of the Year in 2007.

the moved us to worse seats

by LonghornMikeTx on 12/10/12Reliant Stadium - Houston

we arrived at the arena only to find out that the section that I purchsed tickets in wasn't there! My wife is short, around 5 feet tall and I wanted to get as close to the action as possible WITHOUT being on the floor where the seats were flat and she would have a hard time seeing over there people in front. I purhcased ticket in Section 16, the first row, when we got there we were told we were being relocated to guess where, the third row of the floor! Now I am tall about 6 ' 2" and I could barely see over the people in front of us. I feel like this was a total bait and switch and I am very upset. I purposely bought the other tickets so we could both see, I knew what I was doing when I purchased them, apparently the people running the show didn't know what they were doing!
