South Carolina Gamecocks Men's Basketball History
The University of South Carolina first fielded a men's basketball team in 1908, and achieved success in the Southern Conference in the 1920s and '30s, before founding the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1953. The legendary Frank McGuire, who had previously led St. John's and UNC to Final Four appearances, coached the Gamecocks from 1964 until his retirement in 1980. During McGuire's reign, South Carolina reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for three consecutive years from 1971 to 1973, in addition to winning one ACC regular season title and tournament championship apiece in their final two seasons in the conference.
After over a decade of independent play, South Carolina moved to the Metro Conference in 1983 and its current home in the Southeastern Conference in 1991. Coach Eddie Fogler led the Gamecocks to an SEC regular season championship in 1997, while his successor, Dave Odom, brought the team two NIT titles, in 2005 and 2006, after reaching their first NIT Finals game in 2002. In 2017, under head coach Frank Martin, the Gamecocks made their first appearance in the Final Four, beating Marquette, Duke, Baylor and Florida before bowing to Gonzaga in the national semifinal. South Carolina made its 10th appearance in the NCAA March Madness tournament in 2024.

Had an AWESOME time!! This was our first Gamecocks basketball game but we will Definitely be back! We went to see a basketball game and Enjoyed sooo much more!! It started with the selfies (A'ja Wilson)🥰,the free concessions were a hit🥤🌭🍿, the "Poppin"interactions with the crowd🎶, the cheerleaders📣,@#Cocky❤️,and just the "Atmosphere of it All"! The Men'sGamecock Basketball were on🔥🔥!! It was the TOTAL package.🏀🏀 #GAMECOCKFAMILY
I always purchase my tickets from Ticketmaster! Never a problem!
My sons and I spent an excellent evening at the Arena. The show was top-notch and everything was done to ensure that the family had a great time. Go Gamecocks!
A great atmosphere, exciting game, and free food. What more could you ask for.
The free concessions were a hit. All of the staff at Colonial Life were extremely friendly and helpful. Loved the atmosphere of the game. Go Cocks!
We had a great time cheering on our Gamecocks at Colonial Life Arena. My 3 kids (3, 5, 7) had a blast at their first basketball game. We were front row of the upper deck and had so much room to move around which was awesome for 3 young kids. We will be back for another game soon!
Easy to use n check in. Like adding my tickets to my wallet. Easy process
USC always puts on a show and they men’s basketball team was no exception! The intro, the promotions, and the concessions were great! You can smell KiKi’s chicken and waffles from the moment you walk in. Go Gamecocks!
Brought me and my 5 year old child to the game. Parking was great. Ease of entering and exiting was great. Food selections and prices were on par with other venues. The sound and special effects were very much too loud. As it started my kid has to hold her hands over her ears. I looked around and so many adults and children with either earplugs or ear coverings of some kind and holding their hands over their ears as well. It wasn't an isolated outburst of sound but rather a continuous event many times through the game. If the sound itself could be reduced it would make it vastly more enjoyable. The other issue is there are many children there and some of the choices of music had profanity in parts or had it poorly bleeped out but could still hear it.
Really nice venue. Easy to get in and out of. Lots of female restroom. Very small male restrooms which causes long lines. Long lines at concessions and I only saw one Ice cream vendor with a very long lines. The only real compliment is the size of the seats. Very tight even for a normal size person. This did make my enjoyment of the show a little tougher.
The process of buying the tickets, the event and venue were overall good. My son had a great time and the whole experience was smooth. HOWEVER, I'm an old guy who, only because he had no other choice, begrudgingly had to use the phone-app digital ticket as opposed to being able to print them out. It's not that I'm opposed to using tech, I use it daily and have for years with my job as a data-analyst. It would be nice to have a backup option though, especially since things can (and do) go wrong with technology....and this was a gift for a 12-year-old so I didn't want any problems.
Great Fans at SC. Everyone was very nice. Beautiful Coliseum. Be sure to check out the Bronze statue in front. Very impressive. I bet she was fun to watch at SC.
First off, going to the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia SC is a cool experience and feeling! The atmosphere is super, gives me a really cool vibe just being there! It's home of The Gamecocks Basketball 🏀 and lots of great concerts & events! The tiled Gamecocks "Cocky" at the entrance is neato!!
First time at a college and a USC game. Enjoyed myself.
Overall great venue however the ushers could do better at seating !
We arrived and public parking (10.00) was VERY close to the venue. We walked in and found our seats easily. We sat up high (section 222) and dead center of half court. The view was amazing! The concession stands where very reasonable and facilities were clean. We had a wonderful family outing.
Great seats, view was excellent and my Gators crushed the Gamecocks. Go Gators!!!!
