Maryland Terrapins at Maryland Stadium

College Park, Maryland, is home to the Old Line State's premiere college football program, and to one of the Big Ten Conference's newest teams. The Terrapins play at Maryland Stadium, which opened in 1950 and has a current capacity of 51,802. Their coach is Mike Locksley, who previously led the University of New Mexico Lobos from 2009 to 2011, and was Maryland's interim head coach after the dismissal of Randy Edsall in 2015 and the dismissal of D.J. Durkin in 2018.

Maryland Terrapins Football History

Football at the University of Maryland dates back to 1891, when what was known until 1916 as Maryland Agricultural College fielded their first team. Much of the school's current identity (including the "Terrapins" nickname) was molded by Harry C. "Curley" Byrd, who coached the football team from 1911 to 1934, and was the school's president from 1936 to 1954. Two football stadiums were named in Byrd's honor, but Maryland Stadium was renamed in 2015 due to concerns regarding Byrd's segregationist past. In 1945, Paul "Bear" Bryant led Maryland for one season, before leaving for the University of Kentucky. The Terrapins reached the pinnacle of their success under Jim Tatum in the early ‘50s, going undefeated in 1951, and following it up with a national title and the first championship in the newly formed Atlantic Coast Conference in 1953. The Terps won nine ACC championships under Tatum, Jerry Claiborne, Bobby Ross and Ralph Friedgen before joining the Big Ten along with Rutgers for the 2014 season.

While Maryland has had rivalries against West Virginia, Navy and Virginia, their primary rival in the Big Ten is Penn State, who has historically competed with Maryland for recruits. Notable Terrapins to have played in the NFL include Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Stan Jones, fellow Hall of Famer and Super Bowl XII co-MVP Randy White, and Super Bowl XXXV MVP Jermaine Lewis. Many Maryland quarterbacks have gone on to the NFL including Stan Gelbaugh, Neil O'Donnell and Frank Reich, who led the Terps to a stunning 28-point comeback against Miami during the 1984 season, before leading the largest single-game comeback in NFL history with the Buffalo Bills in 1993.

Great View & Results - Clueless Attendants

by Joefap on 10/27/15M&T Bank Stadium - Baltimore

Great view from section 552 and exciting game with positive results. Confusing design in navigating the upper level. 4 different seating attendants could not tell us how to get to section 552

After last years no handshake it was fitting to shove this victory down their throats. Looks like we have a state to state rival. WE ARE PENN STATE

    No Bad Seats

by BakitWhyNot on 10/27/15M&T Bank Stadium - Baltimore

The game was absolutely fantastic, even though my Terps lost. M&T is a top notch venue, this is my third time here and I've never had real issues. The seats are comfortable, and even the highest sections (where I usually sit) have fantastic views and sight lines. Also a nice feature is that almost every section has its own bathrooms. There was only a short line for the men's room during halftime, which is incredible for a football stadium. Aside from the physical venue, it's worth saying that Penn State fans lived up to their reputation of being some of the best in college football. They were quick to make small talk during game breaks and congratulate us on a well played game.

    Access was horrible

by PROFf on 10/27/15M&T Bank Stadium - Baltimore

Getting to the game was the most terrible experience I have ever had at any of the many BIG 10 away games. The access from I95 was a joke. Signage for directions to the parking lots nearly none existent. The combination of poor access from I95 and subsequently poor directions with the various one way streets made driving to the stadium on game day a very bad experience and made me decide not to attend the game or any future game at this venue.

Good seats, easy procurement. Good venue to see a football game, just wish they had natural grass like we have at Beaver Stadium.

Game was great, atmosphere was terrible.

by EventGoer31 on 9/25/13M and T Bank Stadium - Baltimore

I am an avid football fan, but this game was a ton of drunk college students and alumni. That needs to be regulated better in the future. Nothing like walking into piles of puke BEFORE the game starts.

    West Virginia 0......so sad

by hillbillyjean on 9/25/13WVU vs MARYLAND football - Baltimore

This was our first time to visit M & T Bank Stadium. TicketMaster did not offer parking for event and now I see why. PARKING compared to FEDEX field. FEDEX has lots of very nice parking lots; tailgating is over the top. M & T Bank Stadium is in the city of Baltimore.......a very cluttered downtown, construction, etc., streets closed, police with their orange cones, if we had known we should have taken a right turn out of K; no directions as attendants for lot K were no where to be found. It had poured rain for hours, I really don't blame them for leaving. But please leave a sign don't go left to Russell; and please suggest alternative route to get out of TOWN anxiety, it's raining, every other car has no idea where to go it was like the blind leading the blind.....we did ask several traffic directors or we would still be in Baltimore......please don't block the normal get out of Dodge route BALTIMORE REALLY SO UNFRIENDLY. We purchased our parking thru RAVENS. For events other than RAVENS football you may be able to acquire parking thru Ravens ticket office. However, don't assume you are going to tailgate in a nice place like FEDEX field........it may not be true, (parking lot was a business with no sign for K (we think it was K???) after asking 7 different attendants at other lots while searching for K lot. Okay we have arrived at K lot or is it? Attendant said yes this is K; park where ever you like. Say what??? we purchased a pass for $39 dollars which had a designated space #, THAT WAS A JOKE, park where ever you want, no space #'s good thing we arrived 3 hours before game. So ask about the lot when purchasing parking pass. Parking lot K? was a 5 minute walk to seats NICE, however, leaving via Russell Street (which is one minute from Lot K was blocked off by Baltimore's finest NO RIGHT TURN on to Russell). Right turn was allowed at side street to right of Russell. TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE bumper to bumper what should have been 10 minutes to 295 took us an hour in confused traffic pattern with no signs to tell you where to turn.........beware.......take light rail to the stadium; our friends recommended light rail........did we listen.......NO. Live & learn.

    Event Management

by Taylor65 on 9/24/13M and T Bank Stadium - Baltimore

Entry checkout less through than for Ravens game. Ushers in stands not visible. They did not seem to be anyone monitoring fan behavior in stands. Corned beef sandwich and coke cost $18. Bread was hard and corners of beef were brown. Sandwich was not fresh. Similar sandwich at Oriole Park was much fresher and had more meat.

    It was ok.

by Anonymous on 9/24/13M and T Bank Stadium - Baltimore

The stadium was alright. It was not amazing. There area around the stadium was not the greatest either. The was a lot of trash. The parking lot next the stadium that we parked in, blocked us in and we couldn't leave for about one and half hours after the game was over. The attendant never told us that would happen.
