About
The University of Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The team competes in the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. The Crimson Tide play their home games at Sewell-Thomas Stadium, which is located on the university's campus.
The Crimson Tide have won 36 Southeastern Conference championships, more than any other team in the conference. They have also won five national championships, in 1939, 1941, 1948, 1957, and 2022.
The Crimson Tide have had a number of players who have gone on to play professional baseball. Some of the most notable include Frank Lary, David Robertson and Alex Avila.
Lary, a former professional baseball player, played for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team. Lary was a right-handed pitcher who had a notable career in Major League Baseball during the 1960s. While at the University of Alabama, he displayed his skills as a valuable member of the Crimson Tide baseball program. Lary's contributions both at the collegiate level and in the professional realm have had a lasting impact on the sport.
After his time at Alabama, Robertson went on to have a lengthy and impressive career in Major League Baseball, with an All-Star appearance and World Series win. He has played for several teams, including the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, and Philadelphia Phillies. Known for his reliability and effectiveness as a relief pitcher, Robertson has made significant contributions to his teams throughout his MLB tenure.
Finally, Avila is a former MLB catcher who played for six different organizations throughout his career. He is a former All-Star and Silver Slugger Award recipient. An All-SEC selection while a member of the Crimson Tide, Avila is known for his hard work, dedication, and love of the game.
Sewell-Thomas Stadium is a baseball stadium located on the campus of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It's the home of the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team. The stadium opened in 1948 and has a capacity of 5,500 people.
Sewell-Thomas Stadium has been the site of many memorable moments in Alabama baseball history. In 1997, the Crimson Tide defeated the LSU Tigers in the SEC Tournament championship game to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament. In 2007, the Crimson Tide defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks in the NCAA Tournament regional final to advance to the College World Series.
