Great show! Great combination of bands and venue. Sugar Ray and BTE. Kicked butt and Eve6 was a blast to watch!
In performance order; Eve 6 was good, even though I only knew one of their songs, they still brought their game. They were even taking pictures with people after the show in the Rocksino. Better the Ezra, much better then expected. They owned the show, even playing songs from local artists, they know how to rock! Sugar Ray, the most grateful artist I've ever seen. Very appreciative of his fans and sweated his ass off performing! Total 90's flashback with all his hits. Uncle Kracker, Looking like we were going to need the EMS to revive him from a heart attack. The guy sang his songs in a very lethargic way, like he didn't want to be there. Never acknowledged there was even an audience he was singing to. And then he left the stage before the band was done playing. His band IS better then UK.
Under the sun concert was a great show. Mark from Sugar Ray always gets great variety 90s bands each year to tour with him. Uncle Kracker was train wreck and should of not been closer for the show. That is only complaint of the show was uncle kracker. Other bands were awesome. I am excited to see which bands Mark will choose for next year tour.
My first time going to the Emerald Queen Casino. Easy parking and shuttle, traffic was not typical big show headache so that was nice. I really only wanted to see Better Than Ezra and had never even heard of the other three bands. Never having seen BTE live, I was very excited at the opportunity. I figured they would be the headliner but that was not so. Order of the bands was never published and I only found out when I got to the casino - I could have come an hour later, so that was a bummer. Then BTE only played for 35 minutes, tops. Never before have I encountered such a short set unless the band was an opener and clearly that was not the case here. Worst value for ticket price I've ever paid. Would not see this concert again, nor one like it.
Went to this concert last year and this year- would go every year they do it. It's perfect because each band plays 4-5 familiar hits that bring you back to the 90s. There are four acts. Fun and keeps moving. Great night. Mark McGrath is an amazing performer and knows how to work a crowd. Hope the acts other than Sugar Ray continue to rotate (understanding that McGrath puts the show on and he's with Sugar Ray). Last year was Gin Blossoms and Blues Traveller. This year Eve 6 and Better than Ezra. Uncle Kracker returned. He needs to go and rotate the three for good variety and keeping it fresh every year. The Emerald Queen is an awful venue. Hopefully this is back at Tulalip next year (as it was last year).
I went with a friend and we had a great time. The only thing I could say is I wish the show would have been longer
Not worth the money at all. Save your money, listen to the cd's you bought of the bands in the 90's and call it good. Trust me.
the event started before advertised. I would not recommend "The Beach as a venue. This is the second event I have been to there that has not been as advertised. We almost missed the entire set of Eve 6 because they were on very early. Better than ezra is absolutely horrible. the better part of the show was Ezra and they mostly talked and then played other peoples songs.
- I got there late, so I missed the first 2 acts (Better Than Ezra & Eve 6). - There was about 15-20 min of downtime between each act. - Each act performed for about 30-45 min. (I also attended Under the Sun 2 years ago). - I loved Sugar Ray! He's the only reason I went to Under the Sun. - I wish Sugar Ray headlined a 1+ hour concert. - Mark McGrath is an awesome performer - very energetic, dances around, fun to watch. Except he kinda killed the energy when he started talking about his kids. - Uncle Kracker was the last act. - I read a tweet that said the Under the Sun acts are rotated every year. (Two years ago Sugar Ray was the last act. This year Sugar Ray was the 3rd act) - Sugar Ray threw beach balls into the audience. - Both Sugar Ray & Uncle Kracker threw used guitar picks into the audience. - Mandalay Beach is a great location, except for the parking. It's impossible to find parking at Mandalay & at Luxor, which is next door. I had to park at Excalibur & even then, I barely found a spot. At least parking on the strip is free. - I didn't go to Under the Sun last year because it was at the Golden Nugget. I hate downtown casinos because they charge for parking. And I don't like standing-only concert venues where you feel like packed sardines & everyone's pushing you. At least at Mandalay Beach, there's lots of room & you can sit on the sand. - Mandalay Beach is outdoors, so depending on the weather, that can be a good or bad thing. 2 years ago, it was 100 degrees. This year, it was 85 degrees.
Great Concert. All the bands played their hits along with some fun cover songs. Venue is terrific. Sit in the sand, or stand in the water in front of the stage. Can even get a drink and see the stage from where the bar is. 2nd beach concert for us at Mandalay Bay and loved them both.
I have always been a big Better Than Ezra fan and they didn't let me down. They are awesome live, I would see them in concert 100 more times if I could. Sugar Ray also rocked out, still great live as well.
It was a great show, don't get me wrong, but if you show up at 9pm like it says the show starts on the ticket you missed all of Eve 6 which was the one band I hadn't already seen and was really looking forward to.
I've been to this concert the last three years and it's always great. Sugar Ray should close the show. They are the best!
Concert started on time. All the groups sounded great, and most importantly played all their hit songs that their fans want to hear. Sound levels were fine; not too loud and distorted. No complains. Would go again.
The Under the sun tour was awesome!! Loved being able to see 4 bands play in one evening. Even though I am extremely partial to Blues Traveler the other bands were good too. All in all it was an awesome evening.
What an amazing concert. I was excited about the line up to start but was absolutely bedazzled by the bands, even after all these years! Uncle Kracker was just "ok" in my book, but after seeing them on stage I have a much new appreciation and really enjoyed the talent and music they provided. Sugar Ray I knew would be great, but McGrath outdid himself and the band was excellent and they could not have been more enjoyable. I just can't say enough how awesome they were. The surprise came with Smashmouth...I've always hummed along and liked a song or two, but WOW! On stage they were excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed EVERYTHING they performed. I actually mostly went to see Blues Traveler but have to admit that after 3 hours straight of dancing to amazing and fun music and the late start for the final band, I was dead tired and not as thrilled on them as I had hoped. I really love their music, listen to their songs over and over, and am enchanted with how he can play the harmonica and sing, but I'm not much into long rifs and was just a bit let down on the stage appearance - although admittedly it was past my bedtime and once I stopped dancing I was spent and ready to go. I think with a line up of 4 bands, they might have started the whole thing earlier and it was a weekday...or perhaps had Blues go earlier in the line up because I do love their music, but Sugar Ray and Smashmouth brought down the house in my opinion. Overall, what a thrill of an event especially at Vina Robles Amphitheater! It was well worth our over 2-hour drive to see this show at this particular venue and I still smile thinking back on the great memory!
Great show! I think Mark McGrath not only is a great singer, he's an awesome performer!! He engaged the crowd and has such a personality. I liked Uncle Cracker and he sounds just as good in person as he does on the radio. I was most impressed with Smash Mouth because I expected the least from them. I like their music but their drummer Jason Sutter (?) is TREMENDOUSLY TALENTED and i just loved their performance overall! I did not care for Blues Traveler. I think Run Around is okay but most of the songs they performed were not even their songs and he didn't sing much and he didn't even know all the lyrics to ANY of the songs. Had his back to the audience a lot. But he did a very good job on Devil Went Down to Georgia. Overall a great tour and would definitely recommend to anyone.
We attended the Under the Sun Tour at the Vina Robles Amphitheater in Paso Robles, CA. First, the venue was excellent. The seating was good, the staff helpful, and security abundant, but unobtrusive. The acts included: Uncle Kracker, Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth, and Blues Traveler. We most enjoyed Sugar Ray as they have a very crowd interactive performance. They played many of their hit songs, and were animated throughout their one hour performance. Uncle Kracker started the show and did a good job getting the crowd into the concert. He too played a number of his best songs. The only negative was that when Smash Mouth played, the instrumentals overwhelmed the singer. It may have been a problem with their sound equipment or that their technicians did not make appropriate adjustments. Other than that, it was a great event and a very desirable, and in this case, affordable venue.
All bands were very good .Hi energey show. The bands played all thier old hits .Lots of fun !!!
