U.K. Show in San Francisco The GREAT with the poor

by sclat on 4/25/11The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

U.K. opened with "In the Dead of Night", and as everyone held their collective breath in anticipation, the guitarist reproduced the guitar solo that rocked the music world note for note, even reproducing the tone. Awesome. We also got "Thirty Years", "Alaska", "Time to Kill"and most remarkably, 'Nevermore", that last never performed live in the original incarnation of U.K. These were for me the musical highlights. This was more than I could have hoped for, and anything negative must be balanced against the fact that getting to hear these songs was IT for me (the first U.K. is my favorite recording, period). The sound was very poor for no good reason, due no doubt to the hard surfaces of the room. It was early 1970's generic coliseum grade murk. Shows are held in this room somewhat regularly, and it is excreting on paying concert-goers indeed not to treat the reflective surfaces of this room with some absorptive acoustic material. Live sound reproduction has some a long way from the 70's, but one would not know it from the sound quality evidenced in this room. D- for sound quality A for performance

    UK what took so long?

by sh27696 on 4/25/11The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

Sure there were just 2 studio albums, and a third 1979"s UK Live for only 19 original tracks, but we have seen careers, reunions and revivals built on much less solid material. 32 years after the final shows of a 3 piece UK. 6 shows over 15 nights in 4 cities saw the affirmation, that UK was and is one of the hottest progressive rock bands of all time. Jobson and Wetton, put on a show, that in musical terms is as strong as any show that Yes, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, ELP, Asia or Pink Floyd have ever played. Prog rock, frequently know for it's excess, particularly in staging, was stripped to the bare essentials Saturday night, great musicians showing their chops on well constructed rock songs, with the emphasis on ROCK! The only questions not answered by the nights performance was what took you so long to come back, when will the DVD be available for sale, and when will you do this again?

UK Reunion - was an amazing show !!

by 27thsnare on 4/25/11The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

They were able to recreate the sounds of this amazing music 30 years later still sounds fresh. Marco's drumming was impeccable, Eddie's capabilities on Piano and Electric violin are unmatched and it was good to hear the original voice of John Wetton still sounding like I remembered it.

    Incredible

by Dinoman27 on 4/25/11The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

These guys were well rehearsed and sounded great. Pretty good for a band that hasn't been together for 30+ years

UK reunion concert in San Francisco = Amazing!

by YoungYoung on 4/25/11The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

Amazing concert by two of my favorite musicians. Two young musicians (Guitar, Drums) were also fantastic, too. I found the sound system at the Regency Ballroom was not that great though. Still it was 'dreams come true' concert...almost cried. Thanks Eddie and John.
