Toronto Raptors History

The Toronto Raptors were founded in 1995 as part of the NBA's expansion into Canada. The Raptors have been the only NBA team based in Canada since the 2001–02 season. After acquiring eight-time All-Star Vince Carter in 1998, the Raptors set league-wide attendance records and made the playoffs from 2000 to 2002. Led by Carter, the Raptors earned their first playoff series win in 2001 and advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Raptors didn't return to the playoffs until the 2006–07 season, when they won the Atlantic Division title. After Masai Ujiri joined as the team's General Manager in 2013, the Raptors became a consistent playoff team, winning five division titles and having their most successful season in 2018. The following year, during the 2019 playoffs, the Raptors earned their first Eastern Conference title and went on to win their first NBA championship, defeating the Warriors in 6 games.

    Raptors Mail it in

by Anonymous on 3/20/10Air Canada Centre - Toronto

That was without a doubt the worst baskeball game I ever saw. Raptors did not only lose , they gave no effort, they did not compete, they did not care care that fans like I spent $600 to take their son and a friend to a game as a birthday present. The game was over after the first Q. The last half, down 30, we wonderered around the ACC looking for a souvenir. Disgusting. How can these millionaries, not even try? i WILL NEVER ATTEND ANOTHER RAPTOR GAME.

    Good night

by Jojup on 2/18/10Air Canada Centre - Toronto

I hadn't been to a Raptors game in about 5 years, and was extremely happy to be back with my girlfriend. It was her first time going to basketball game. She and I both felt that the night was great. The night started a bit slow with the scoring, with Memphis leading. However once Toronto started to get motivated, the feeling was great. The fans and the team were great despite the overtime loss. Emotion in the arena was great and everything turned out to be a good night. Would totally go again!

    Raptors v. Celtics Jan 2010

by Anonymous on 1/11/10Air Canada Centre - Toronto

The Raptors really brought their best game to play the Celtics and the Toronto pageantry was fun. (I'm a Celtics fan) The only thing I hated was that they played music while the game was going on. That is annoying! It takes the crowd out of the game and makes the play feel like a music video. Stop the music!

Excellent - except for the outcome!

by Spurfan on 1/7/10Air Canada Centre - Toronto

As Spurs fans we came from NYS and stayed at a nearby hotel. Access to Air Canada Centre via PATH underground was not difficult. Found seats with excellent help. Everything was done well: food, view, audio, facilities, etc. Very efficient. Returned to hotel in 20 minutes without difficulty, even though later at night. Except that the Spurs lost to an excellent Raptors team, it was a very positive experience. Will definitely return!

Raptors - Magic: Great game, lousy seats

by RichA111 on 11/2/09Air Canada Centre - Toronto

The seats were not good for this. the upper deck has a railing in front of every row, making the view obstructed. The game was very good, however, and the concessions and amenities were excellent, if a bit overpriced. But what else would you expect at a major league sporting event!

    Amazing...

by nokturnal on 10/29/09Air Canada Centre - Toronto

It was one of the most memorable games I have been too. Everything was amazing from the full orchestra that came out and played during the Raps player intro's, to the amazing 10 points win. Here is a brief list of some highlights: - The ear hurting cheers for returning ex Raptor player now coach Alvin Williams, and returning Raptor Rasho. - The classy and educated Toronto basketball fans giving AP the cheers he deserves. Here is a list of some strange things that happened: - No noise makers were handed out for foul shots, and not one person stood in the lower bowl to "heckle" the opposing foul shooters. - Bargnani blowing a break away dunk (his 28pts made up for that) - Bizarre ref'ing protecting the NBA's franchise player LeBron. Despite the lopsided ref'ing the Raps earned a hard fought win over arguably one of the best teams in the league. I can't wait to see what the Raps do this season. Cheers!
