    Canadians do operetta well!

by Veggie McVegFace on 1/1/24Jane Mallett Theatre - Toronto

The program indicated that it was an all-Canadian cast. Canadians are good at operetta! Everybody performed well but Jonelle Sills was especially impressive. She is a world-class talent.

    A most enjoyable experience

by Chris on 12/31/22Jane Mallett Theatre - Toronto

My friend and I truly enjoyed the performance of Die Fledermaus. The singers/actors were really into their roles and seemed to be enjoying themselves - I know having a sold out house must have helped tremendously. Staging was good and change of scenes was well done. If there is anything to improve - Rosalinde had a superb voice, but at times overwhelming for the venue, which then detracted from the play as a whole. Thank you for keeping operetta vibrant in Toronto - am already looking forward to the next one.

    Amateurish

    by A. L. on 10/27/22

No sets and no surtitles. Enunciation by all, except one exceptionally talented bass/baritone with a huge voice, made lyrics unintelligible. I had a good seat, about halfway back. Surtitles would help enormously. Stage direction was largely absent, and acting, except for the baritone, who was excellent, was abysmal. I left at intermission. Those with long memories may recall the superb productions of Gilbert & Sullivan operettas at the Avon Theater at the Stratford Festval. This should be the standard Toronto Operetta Theatre should aim for.

    Excellent Show! Perfect Cast!

by DC on 10/25/22Jane Mallett Theatre - Toronto

TOT’s Orpheus In The Underworld production was superbly polished, artistic, entertaining and the audience was guaranteed an enjoyable evening of operetta. The cast was perfectly suited to their respective roles, everything was well sung and acted and I had a truly memorable evening. I eagerly await TOT’s next production.
