About

Toronto Comedy All Stars on Tour

From John Candy and the SCTV gang to Mike Myers, Jim Carrey, Russell Peters, and the Kids in the Hall, the city of Toronto has a long and impressive reputation as fertile ground for funny folks. The abundance of comedy clubs new and old means there's always emerging talent ready to break out of the ranks.

The trick is knowing where to find those future superstars, which is why Toronto Comedy All Stars has become so valuable to connoisseurs of all that's fresh and funny in the city. It's a showcase for Toronto's best new stand-ups as well as more seasoned pros who deserve your attention and laughter, and it's the brainchild of Danish Anwar.

The comedian and producer was inspired by heroes like George Carlin and Mitch Hedberg, but he considers himself a comedian first and foremost. His signature blend of political humour and nerd-culture riffs have earned him spots on CBC's ‘The Debaters' and ‘Truth Bomb,' along with high-profile appearances at Just for Laughs and the Winnipeg Comedy Festival.

While living on campus at York University, he discovered his love for putting on shows with other comics. He started the TCAS label to present what he calls "the most progressive, intelligent, and talented stand-ups in North America." The All Stars' track record of stellar bills and sold-out shows proves this is no idle boast.

The rotating roster of performers includes such stand-out stand-ups as Jennifer McAuliffe, a visitor to stages all over the U.K. and North America as well as Sirius XM; and Carol Zoccoli, a newcomer from Brazil whose talents were recognized when she became the 2015 recipient of the Tim Sims Encouragement Award.

Zoccoli also produces Comedy as a Second Language, a TCAS spin-off showcasing immigrants and first-generation Canadian comics in Toronto. The equally multicultural lineup on so many of Toronto Comedy All Stars' showcases is another sign that the city's comedy scene remains as unique and vital as ever (and funny, too).
