TORO Y MOI IN CONCERT:

Chillwave producer extraordinaire Toro y Moi, aka Chazwick Bradley Bundick, transforms every venue he plays into a funky wonderland with his slick, dance-worthy productions. Whether he’s playing guitar or keyboards, Bundick's swirling effects and highly rhytmic productions envelope audiences in an immersive, undeniable groove. His gliding falsetto provides a boyish innocence to his earnestly crafted songs, and even though his lyrics cover personal topics like heartbreak and remorse, he keeps the vibe upbeat by anchoring each song in pumping beats and groove-heavy flourishes. Toro y Moi. On tour in support of his 2015 album What For?, Toro y Moi will bring his laid-back, dance-friendly brand of atmospheric electro-funk to fans across the country.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Chazwick Bradley Bundick was born in 1986 in Columbia, SC, where he formed the indie rock band The Heist and The Accomplice while in high school. After graduating from the University of South Carolina in 2009, he quickly signed to Carpark Records and released Toro y Moi’s 2010 debut album Causers of This. The immaculately produced record earned rave reviews and generated enough buzz to land him opening spots for in-demand artists like Caribou and Phoenix. The following year he released his sophomore album Underneath the Pine, a stellar release that showcased his commitment to live instrumentation. On his third album, 2013’s Anything in Return, Toro y Moi combined the sample-heavy approach of his first record with the live feel of his second effort, and the new direction paid off. The album represented a major breakthrough for him, earning massive praise and leading his first headlining tour and an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Toro y Moi's 2015 album What For? and accompanying tour dates have fans excited to catch Bundick's funky rhythms and masterful sonic textures in concert.

I was expecting a different show...too band heavy

by teejayt73 on 10/5/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

I should have read more about his live shows online in advance of the show, and my expectations would have been different. Anytime the keyboardist picked up the guitar......ugh. I was hoping for a more mellow show. Chaz' voice was drowned out by the band. His upbeat songs with the disco flavor were good. I recommend checking out some uploaded videos from live shows before buying tickets.

    Awesome (:

by jlammatao on 10/5/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Toro Y Moi never ceases to amaze me...they are always great live and professional. I noticed they do little twists and turns to spice up every live show they have! (Esp. Chaz Bundick ;) I was pretty bummed that they didn't play for very long. I wasn't sure if that was on purpose or if they had a specific time limit to close the show.

    Good Stuff

by Pammmaaaaah on 9/21/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

This show was awesome and the opening bands, Ava Luna and Unknown Mortal Orchestra rocked. I wasnt really into either of them at first but hearing them live made me love em. They accompanied Toro y Moi really nicely. Toro did a spectacular job though and played a nice mix of old and new. Make sure to check out the new EP! P.s Tall guys that stand in front, when i ask if i can go in front of you, just let it happen.

by emcsquared28 on 9/19/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Toro y Moi played a flawless, danceable set that had the whole crowd excited. They seemed friendly and dod not alienate fans as some bands are prone to do. Overall an excellent show!

Toro Y Moi: Good but not what I expected

by djlewi07 on 9/18/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Well I guess I was a little pissed because it started an hour late, due to the first opener being super late. But they ended up being pretty good, so it wasn't too bad. Anyway, Toro y Moi were really good. But I feel like the live music doesn't really catch the ambiance of his recorded stuff. They sounded a funk jam-band, albeit a great one. I was slightly disappointed about that. Also, they played a lot of new music. The only song I recognized was Talamak. But people were definitely grooving and dancing hard. Good show, but different than how I pictured it.

Toro y Moi was cool but...

by thebikester on 8/2/117th Street Entry - Minneapolis

The opening acts were a tad scary. Adventure was a strange male duo, the back-up singer sang better than the lead, and the rhythms and lyrics were repetitive. Oh yeh, there was a third techie k-b guy.. forgot him. Then, Braids got on and the lead singer was sick. She needed special vocal enhancers to help her out. boohoo. So, we waited...and waited. And when they finally were ready, I was happy that they were OK but nothing too pay for. I'd listen to them on last.fm while lollygagging on tumblr. Finally, Toro y Moi gets on and the mood changes. Everyone is dancing. However, he didn't play certain tunes like "Blessa" or "My Touch", strange eh? And NO encore. Weirder.. And the concert was on a Sunday. Eh. And the guitar and keyboard quirks seemed programmed for the "Underneath The Pine" album, so when they played the old tunes, it sounded...different. I enjoyed it but I had more fun dancing in my room to them. They seemed a bit too distant from the audience. I was hoping to FEEL their presence, I was at the very front. I wanted to see smiles and tears and wiggles...but nothing. Just cutesy awkwardness.

    Toro y Moi

by GortisKhan on 5/31/11Williamsburg Music Hall - Brooklyn

I really wanted to like this show a lot more, and while I found it entertaining, something was different. The mezmiring feel of the hazy "bedroom" recorded versions of his songs are somewhat lost, as the music is produced by a jam/funk ensemble. This is neither a good or a bad thing, just different. Granted many of Toro's beats are "funky," it is just much more evident when the sounds are heavilly generated from live drums, guitar, and bass. Overall, the visuals were fun, as they provided a psychadelic lava lamp-esque background matched to the equally funky beats, but again it is the funk aspect of the live show noy present on studio recorded versions of the songs, that makes the sound differ. I did find myself moving to every track off "Causers of This" and definitely enjoyed the set for what it was. He will be playing two FREE shows at Brooklyn's Commodore Barry Park on August 27th & 28th. Highlights: "New Beat," "Still Sound," "Low Shoulder," "Talamak"

Toro y moi better on MP3

by lilshellyt on 4/13/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

The supporting bands were much better than I anticipated, thank god, because I was very disappointed with Toro Y moi. The back up band was way too loud, drowning out his voice and the ambiant/hazy back ground sound so unique to his music. I felt like I was listening to a bad funk/jam band, not at all like his recordings. I could barely even decipher the songs I've grown to love from rocking out on my IPOD!
