TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS IN CONCERT:

The bubblegum pop movement of the '60s wouldn't have been the same without the beloved tunes of Tommy James and the Shondells, whose prominent music took off during the height of the era. It's been almost 50 years since the release of their 1966 debut Hanky Panky, but the band is still impressing audiences across the nation with their expansive catalog of upbeat classics. His voice still on-point and smooth as ever, Tommy James and the gang hit the road once again for a nostalgia-heavy 2014 tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

After dabbling in several musical projects as a preteen, Tommy James recorded his first demo "Hanky Panky" under the formal name The Shondells in 1964. The song wasn't an initial hit, but it achieved popularity the following year when it was unearthed by a local dance promoter, launching Tommy and the Shondells onto the music radar. Their 1966 debut album Hanky Panky skyrocketed the title single to commercial success, landing on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and garnering the band national attention. Seven more successful albums followed as Tommy and the Shondells racked up twelve Top 40 hits and another chart-topper, "Crimson and Clover." James set out on a solo venture in 1971, attaining success once more with 23 gold singles and nine gold and platinum-certified albums. Reunited in 2014, Tommy and the Shondells are ready to turn back the clock on a string of highly anticipated tour dates.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"What a fantastic show full of non-stop entertainment. The men were sensational with all their hits. They had on-tune harmonies and were very lively on stage."

"What a voice –Tommy James can sing, and he's an amazing performer and guitarist."

"This show was excellent! The best concert I have been to in a long time. Will go see him again when he comes back in town."

    Tommy

Other than one of the guys playing guitar hitting several sore notes and the guy playing the keys hitting way out of tune notes, we both enjoyed the concert a lot.

    Tommy James was fantastic.

by Kizzfreak on 10/9/11Hard Rock Live - Biloxi

Although this concert was exactly one hour long it was packed with all of the hits that Tommy James is known for. The band was tight, Tommy was in excellent voice, and the venue was small enough so that any seat was a good seat (I was lucky enough to be on the second row center). Also, people were allowed to take pictures and video (even though it was suppossed to be prohibited) throughout the show unmolested by security.

While the show was good; the music was too loud to hear the lyrics. It was actually painful.

    Hard Rock Casino Biloxi MS

by delores964 on 10/9/11Hard Rock Live - Biloxi

Have been a Tommy James fan since the 70's and was very disappointed with the show in Biloxi MS. First, the music was too loud -- could not hear any of Tommy's vocals beginning with the second song, as the bass amplifier volume was too loud. Secondly, Tommy was on stage 60-70 minutes with 15 minutes spent making pictures, signing autographs, etc in the first few rows of the audience. I understand the total length of Tommy's performance is governed by the venue itself. Would like to see Tommy again but in a different venue where Tommy spends time making pictures and signing autographs AFTER his show.

Tommy James @ Hardrock in Biloxi, MS

by ViperDerf on 10/9/11Hard Rock Live - Biloxi

My wife and I were excited to see the Shondells live because Tommy James wrote our song, "Crimson & Clover." However, the less than personal TJ hardly said a thing all the while his Shondells played hardrock interludes to some very sacred songs. I thought TJ might share with us where some of his inspirations came from. But there was none of that and a lot of very loud noise. I know ... It is Rock & Roll. I get that but I was there when he originally performed it ... And I mistakenly thought I would hear that again.

Great show, all three acts were terrific.

by Beachgirl35 on 10/3/11NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Tommy James is one of my favorite performers. He always comes through with a terrific show, very energetic and true to his music. He has so many hits and they all rock. Timeless. Mark Farner was such a pleasant surprise. What a musician. Loved him and his music. Band was great. The Rascals have such a special place in rock and roll history and Felix represents that. He is always terrific, and their music sure stood up to the test of time. So may hits and they sure make you want to get up and dance. Wish the original band get back together.

I loved Tommy James and the Shondells but the sound system was off. It was too loud to be enjoyable. I did not enjoy sitting through the first two opening acts because they were not my type of music. It was a poor combination. It was the first time to a Bethel Woods show that I was not happy.

    Show was ok.......

by Myya on 8/16/11Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - Bethel

I was so excited when my husband bought these tickets for me for my birthday. But I have to say that it wasn't what I hoped for..Yeah we listened to this music when we were kids/young adults growing up...But now were in our 50's,60's & 70's, doesn't anyone do sound checks? Doesn't anyone sit in the audience to tone down the deafening/overpowering beat ? We're not kids anymore... Example: I went to an Air Supply concert a few years ago in Pough,Ny...It was like they were in my living room, you could hear every word, the acoustics weren't deafening and didn't drown out the lyrics, and I realize that over time singers might not have the vocal range they once had but geezzz we came to hear the music , the lyrics we remembered sooo well.. The horn section in Family Stone was excellent...The horn section in Blood, Sweat & Tears was phenomenal...and when Tommy James came out I thought this was great, it's an original singer , but the music overpowered the vocals and after 4 songs we left..The group sounded better 1/2 mile away in the parking lot because the beat wasn't so deafening.. Please share with these groups that we, as adults now, not wasted, not intoxicated, but as adults, are coming to pay homage to music we grew up with...why can't it sound like it did when they recorded it years ago?? If Air Supply & Tony Bennett can do so can everyone else...
