TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS IN CONCERT:

The bubblegum pop movement of the '60s wouldn't have been the same without the beloved tunes of Tommy James and the Shondells, whose prominent music took off during the height of the era. It's been almost 50 years since the release of their 1966 debut Hanky Panky, but the band is still impressing audiences across the nation with their expansive catalog of upbeat classics. His voice still on-point and smooth as ever, Tommy James and the gang hit the road once again for a nostalgia-heavy 2014 tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

After dabbling in several musical projects as a preteen, Tommy James recorded his first demo "Hanky Panky" under the formal name The Shondells in 1964. The song wasn't an initial hit, but it achieved popularity the following year when it was unearthed by a local dance promoter, launching Tommy and the Shondells onto the music radar. Their 1966 debut album Hanky Panky skyrocketed the title single to commercial success, landing on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and garnering the band national attention. Seven more successful albums followed as Tommy and the Shondells racked up twelve Top 40 hits and another chart-topper, "Crimson and Clover." James set out on a solo venture in 1971, attaining success once more with 23 gold singles and nine gold and platinum-certified albums. Reunited in 2014, Tommy and the Shondells are ready to turn back the clock on a string of highly anticipated tour dates.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"What a fantastic show full of non-stop entertainment. The men were sensational with all their hits. They had on-tune harmonies and were very lively on stage."

"What a voice –Tommy James can sing, and he's an amazing performer and guitarist."

"This show was excellent! The best concert I have been to in a long time. Will go see him again when he comes back in town."

Tommy James and the Shondells were fabulous ... BUT

by Li on 4/10/24Coronado Performing Arts Center - Rockford

What an awesome experience to be able to see this legend. WOW! Really took a step back in time! I give the Tommy James and the Shondells 5 STARS...BUT... Not sure if the lighting crew and sound engineer were part of Tommy James and the Shondells or if they were from the Coronado theater in Rockford, IL - They did NOT KNOW what they were doing or how to even highlight the singers on stage - spot lights were not consistent with the performers. Sound WAS AWFUL!!! microphone feedback and imbalanced sound......

by Missmyra on 4/9/24Coronado Performing Arts Center - Rockford

Loved the opening show, the Buckinghams! Tommy James and the Shondells were awesome, too. We truly loved the total concert experience as the Coronado theater is so beautiful and good seating. Will definitely return for more shows!

We were excited at first, but dissatisfied afterwards.

by Susan on 4/9/24Coronado Performing Arts Center - Rockford

We were excited at first, but disappointed by the end because the music was too loud and we couldn’t hear the words to the songs. And also by 9 o’clock instead of singing more of his songs, he was shaking hands with people in the front row. He could’ve done that between sets or at the end of the night. Unfortunately that didn’t happen.

    Nice combo of 60's-70-s

by Smithers on 4/9/24Coronado Performing Arts Center - Rockford

Tommy James and the Buckinghams gave us a well played concert of memorable 60's-70's rock. Great atmosphere. Little Chicago mixed in was nice touch.

    Awesome Show

by Debbie on 4/9/24Coronado Performing Arts Center - Rockford

The music was awesome. These guys were clearly loving what they do. TJ was very nice and came down into the audience and shook hands and took pictures. He was very gracious to a few “over zealous” fans if you know what I mean. Class act.

    Good show!

by Pat M on 4/9/24Coronado Performing Arts Center - Rockford

We enjoyed Tommy James and the Shondells along with the Buckinghams. Both bands have a few of the original or long time members. I appreciate having the opportunity to see both live. Their songs have been in rotation on my Spotify for many years. Nothing to do with the bands, but it is distracting to see so many phone screens recording the show. Snap a photo, then put the phone away!

    Ageless Rock and Roll

by zantac on 3/13/24The Showroom at the Golden Nugget - Las Vegas

Tommy James is a miracle. We have seen him many times and he continues to gat better and better. His band is composed of seriously great musicians. If you want more pleasure, read his book "Me the Mob and the Music"to understand his journey through the depths of the unruly music business. But most importantly, see this man in concert!

    Great Concert, but…

by Pudge on 3/12/24The Showroom at the Golden Nugget - Las Vegas

Tommy James sounded strong like when he recorded the hits. The only thing that would make it better was to bring it down a decibel or two in the smaller showroom.

    Great band bad sound.

by Nell on 3/11/24The Showroom at the Golden Nugget - Las Vegas

The band was great as always but the sound was reverberating. It was very distracting.

    Speechless

by Chick on 1/31/24Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

Tommy sounded great, as did the rest of the band, however, it seemed we just walked in and before you knew it, it was over., i mean, who wants to go home at 9:20, especially since he talked in the beginning for 10 minutes or so and then spent another 10-15 minutes conversing in the audience at the end,

    Sound issues

by SB fan on 1/31/24Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

The mixing and sound quality were horrible. The Bass and Drums were blaringly loud and drowned out the Hammond organ, Lead guitar and other instruments. The volume was so high that it create a sort of reverberated distorted feedback akin to noise rather than clean music. Since Tommy was a mixing master during his studio recordings I was very surprised he was not aware of the extremely poor quality blaring out at the audience. I was very disappointed. While the set list was great, and Tommy's voice was great, the mixing and volume of the band made the concert almost unbearable.. P.S. While the front row audience members must have been thrilled when Tommy came out into the crowd during Mony Mony, the rest of us had to sit and listen to a blaring rambling series of solos rather than a clean version of one of his most popular songs.

    The show was wonderful

by Leslie on 1/30/24Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

Tommy James and the Shondells sounded great, they played great and out on a great show. The amps kept screeching but they kept playing and were professional.

    Best ever!

by Mary c on 1/30/24Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

This had to be one of the best concerts I ever been too! Tommy & the band rocked the house! Did all my favorite songs and got to dance to them on top of it! They really hit the notes as they did in 1970! You guys are awesome!!!! Continued success!
