Todd Rundgren on Tour

Fans never know what to expect from a Todd Rundgren show, which is a testament to his range as a musician. For example, his "The Individualist, A True Star" tour was named so because of its unique format: Along with a set of hits, Rundgren also performed a side of his seminal 1973 LP A Wizard, a True Star. In cities with multiple shows booked, the musician played a different side of the album each night.

No matter where Rundgren's creative muse takes him on a given tour, what stands out is his voice — an instrument that can handle both growling rock and blue-eyed soul — and his charismatic stage presence. Thanks to this versatility, Rundgren has also toured as part of Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band and, as a solo artist, opened for Hall & Oates and teamed up with Joe Jackson for a co-headlining tour. In 2019, he joined forces with the Monkees' Micky Dolenz, Christopher Cross and Badfinger's Joey Molland for the "It Was Fifty Years Ago Today – A Tribute to the Beatles' White Album" tour.

Todd Rundgren in Concert

Todd Rundgren first broke into the music business in the late '60s with the band Nazz, for whom he wrote "Open Your Eyes" and "Hello It's Me." He then released several solo albums, including 1972's Something/Anything? (which featured a re-recording of "Hello It's Me") and then founded the rock band Utopia, a group that drew on prog, power-pop and new wave. In 1983, Rundgren released one of his best-known songs, "Bang the Drum All Day."

In addition to his own work, Rundgren is also a well-respected studio artist who's produced albums for Hall & Oates, XTC, Psychedelic Furs and Meat Loaf. Rundgren has also continued to release solo albums, including 2017's White Knight, which featured guest spots from Robyn, Joe Walsh and Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor.

    Loved this show!

Todd was amazing! A fantastic show, even without the “greatest hits.”

    An Extraordinary, Surprising Concert

    by Larry on 5/16/24

I saw Me/We in Washington, D.C. and I thought it was exceptional. Todd and the band sounded fantastic--at the top of their game. With minimal audience interaction, it was more of a "formal music concert"than a festival party. And it was focused on deep cuts, not greatest hits. I LOVED that choice, because every song was a surprise. I would also say the songs were selected to make room for exceptional vocal work by Todd, and the band. A remarkable show by a GREAT artist who refuses to "phone it in."

Top of the live show pyramid

by LD on 5/15/24Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

I’ve been a Todd fan for 50+ years and I’ve been to many live shows. I gotta say this Me/We show is awesome and in the top five or so live shows I’ve been to. Todd and his band performed amazingly, the sound was really exceptional, and the set list was refreshing as it was made up of songs that haven’t been played often or ever in some cases, in concert. It was so good I caught a second show !

    Bad sound at the Basie

    by exit98 on 5/14/24

I can understand why the more casual fans are disappointed. It would have been great to hear a few more "hits". But I really enjoyed the deep cuts and more obscure songs from his repertoire and Todd exhibited a lot of energy. However, I thought the mix was bad. The band was great, but Todd's voice was very muddy. I could hardly understand the lyrics, even on the songs that I was familiar with. It's a shame because they are also a key to appreciating his talent.

Two hours of side B songs

by Ted on 5/13/24The Wilbur - Boston

He can still carry a tune but two hours of songs we never heard played was painful. When he did his hits in the encore they were cut to a third. Very disappointed.

    I’m not sure

by Swede on 5/13/24The Wilbur - Boston

Well I have seen Todd Rundgren more than 20 times going back to Hermit of Mink Hollow tour. I have seen Todd solo w just his electronica. I have seen him w Utopia. I have seen him w Daryl Hall. I have seen him just do obscure stuff just so he could jam on his guitar. This time with a great backing band to include Kasim Sultan who was in superb form. Once again only to play either more obscure stuff either Utopia or Todd deep cuts most of which I did not know or for that matter I’m sure most of the audience did not know. How about this Todd… Most of your greatest work was in the 70’s which is 50yrs old. I just want to see a 75yr old guy play the songs I grew up loving. I believe most of your followers want to see much the same. If you want to keep us coming maybe you should play the music that reeled us in in the first place. I don’t need to be wowed by your versatility or your innovations. The Big time is past you. How about playing to your followers.

    Todd Rundgren Me/We

by That art girl on 5/13/24Goodyear Theater - Akron

This show is not to be missed! Todd was in great voice as were the other vocals. Harmonies that were so beautiful. This is a deep cuts show, so it's your chance to hear him do something you may not have heard live before. There are plenty of hits as well. If you are a fan of the Liars album, Hermit, the classic Todd/Todd you will love it. This show is extremely elating. Life is short. Buy the concert tickets! Well worth it!

Great Venue, Performance a bit disappointing

by Sue on 5/13/24The Wilbur - Boston

The Wilbur is an excellent place to see a show. The setting is intimate, there are no bad seats, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Todd Rundgren is an amazingly creative artist, guitar player and still has his voice. Love that he played straight through without an intermission. The band was tight. However, Our entire party, and many people we spoke with after, were disappointed that he did not play one of his hits in its entirety. He played a 5 minute medley of a few hit songs. It felt a bit insulting, as though he played it begrudgingly as part of a contract agreement. Many people go to see a musician to hear the music they love with the understanding that there will be other lesser known music played. Sadly, we would not see Todd again because of this.

    Not a Greatest Hits show

    by Ralph99 on 5/13/24The Wilbur - Boston

Good lengthy show played many songs from his long career that he probably doesn't often play live. Unfortunately, his greatest hits were relegated to truncated versions in a medley rather than full songs Entra woven throughout the set. Overall, a really good show.

    Still creative at 75!

by Chebman on 5/13/24The Wilbur - Boston

Todd still has it! Great set. Great band. And he has surprisingly good vocal range considering all the mileage on his voice. Not just a nostalgia show. He continues to create. Wish younger audiences would come out to see him.

    More than deep cuts

by Martney on 5/13/24Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

This Tour should be billed as "Deep, Deep Cuts"for those familiar with every song ever written by Mr Rundgren. Not one familiar song on the playlist. Gave a 1 because the musicians did their job,

    Todd is still God

by Schaefer on 5/13/24Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

Feel the music in your head and your heart and your mind. Todd has one of the best, most soulful voices in rock - and he can still play the guitar with the best of them! An incredible concert!

    Disappointing

by Mich on 5/13/24Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

Can’t believe that I waited until the encore to hear my favorite songs, only to hear them in a medley! What???! Band was great. Show was boring. Sorry.

by Tags on 5/12/24Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

So glad to see Todd again. Even at 75 years old his voice is still amazing, especially his falsetto. And the show was 2 hours so it felt like you got your moneys worth.

Todd the Legend Did It Again

by Juliet on 5/12/24The Wilbur - Boston

Me/We was my favorite Todd concert yet because his setlist reached into deeper pockets full of grand treasures which haven't been as celebrated as his better known library. Todd is a "wonderful freak in the best way possible"as a friend recently stated....Me/We was an exceptionally beautiful performance of love.

    Over promised, under delivered

by Kit on 5/12/24The Wilbur - Boston

I was disappointed. On the one hand, his voice sounded better than ever (and at 75 that’s pretty amazing). He is also a very accomplished guitar player which we didn’t realize. However, I didn’t recognize any of his songs until the encore when he grudgingly played a medley of 3 of his greatest hits. Some of the numbers they did during the concert were good but I didn’t think that any were great. And the acoustics of the theater could have been a bit better. Oh well. We’ve really lucked out with all of the other concerts we’ve attended over the years so one mediocre show ain’t bad.
