About

THUNDERCAT IN CONCERT:

Genre-spanning bassist, singer, and producer Thundercat is known for keeping audiences on their toes with his head-spinning variety and eclecticism. From skittering fusion and squelching funk to synth-laden electro, one thing remains constant in his music -- his virtuosic bass playing. He's a true master of the instrument and it provides the backbone for his diverse sound, tying songs like "Oh Sheit It's X" and "Walkin'" together despite their markedly different vibes. In 2014 Thundercat provided tour support to his longtime collaborator Flying Lotus, and his stellar performances and futuristic stage wear on the road proved he's as impressive in concert as he is in the studio.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Los Angeles-born multi-talent Thundercat, a.k.a Stephen Bruner, fell in love with bass at an early age. In his teens he became the bassist of iconic LA thrash band Suicidal Tendencies, whose lineup also included his brother Ronald Jr. on drums. By the mid-'00s he was a sought-after session player, appearing on acclaimed albums by Erykah Badu and his Brainfeeder label mate Flying Lotus. Bruner made his solo debut as Thundercat in 2011 with the album The Golden Age of Apocalypse, a kaleidoscopic slice of bass-heavy fusion and electro that was a huge critical success. Following buzzworthy appearances at festivals like Coachella and Austin City Limits, he released his 2013 sophomore album Apocalypse to another round of critical praise.  A seasoned performer known for his mean bass playing and outré stagewear, Thundercat continues to get ticket buyers moving and shaking on his must-see tours.

    Best show

by Becca on 3/11/20The Observatory - Santa Ana

Thundercat is an amazing artist, so talented and so real and down to earth. I love artists who talk about their songs before they play them and give a back story. He sounded so good vocally and musically it was perfect. One reason why I saw him was because the work he did with Mac Miller on his Swimming album and it was the icing on the cake when Thundercat talked about Mac and then played one of his songs. I literally went through all the emotions that night laughter, tears, happiness, joy, it was really one of the best most personable shows ever. I will for sure see him again. You’re the bee‘s knees Thundercat!!

From opening act to Thundercat. AMAZING!!

by Neal on 3/11/20The Observatory - Santa Ana

The opening artist/DJ did an excellent job of creating a soulful, live, nostalgic, and energy-rich atmosphere. From their Guapdad turned up the energy while engaging with the audience and getting them out of their comfort zone. And finally, Thundercat and his band were so in-tune with one another, even while Thundercat was free-styling with his guitar.... was in awe by his performance and guitar skills! Great event with great staff!

    Great performance, sub-par sound

by Adrockus on 3/10/20The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Thundercat gave an amazing performance filled with funky, spacey, jazzy, proggy, melodic virtuosity. The visuals were good as well. This would have been a totally epic show except the sound did not do justice to the music. Maybe it was better on the floor, but in the loge section I couldn’t hear much definition in the lower bass notes and the drums were too loud and harsh. Excellent performance though, and still super fun.

    Thundercat The Bass God

by Twinko on 11/28/13Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Thundercat is untouchable. His skills as a musician are unmatched. His band is the cream of the crop. The three of them put on a truly unforgettable, jaw dropping show. The venue was perfect, the lighting set the mood, and the set they played was phenomenal.
